    I’ve been watching various videos from some repats and Gambian’s for a few months. These prices seem to be climbing. I’m sure there is a price change with various areas. I’ve spoken to someone who gave me a $5000 a month rent ☺️ What fool would pay that in a developing country? We don’t have to pay a fraction of that in the states. My question is what is the average Gambian paying based on their incomes? I’m sure not $1000 a month. We hear sentiments like brothers and sisters come back home, but not to be swindled. Shame!!!! My heart would be to go Africa to build, to be a blessing and not a curse. Holy Father help us to do better!!!

    Isatu I love your videos. I am not gonna say much about the place but this is way too expensive. There are a lot of us in the disapora that want to return to the motherland and we are watching a lot of videos and doing a ton of research before we even visit. I watch a lot of your other videos and all the other prices seem reasonable except for this one. I am seeing newer 4 bedrooms there for $300-$400 per month. I saw a video from BAG the other day with the same thing. $1.7 million Dalasi for land that should be selling for less than $400 thousand. The diaspora is sharp guys. To live and survive in the US or UK we can spot a good or bad deal from a mile. Most of the folks coming over are not gonna be rich with lots of disposable income, they will be retirees and people on fixed income or savings. If the prices are not reasonable they will look elsewhere. Please tell the folks selling or renting these places to be reasonable so we are motivated to visit and possibly even stay.

    This is just not fair to price houses so outrageously expensive for the expats. you people are just pricing yourself out of the game. I suggest very much that you guys do some research on other countries with similar economic level in Africa like Uganda, Ghana and Tanzania just to name a few...Then look at other countries who might be your competitors to understand how much disservice you are doing to yourself. Look at other countries like South East Asia, for instance, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Cambodia and of course Latin american countries like Ecuador, Columbia, Panama all of which have a comprehensive package for expats with rents readily available for $200 dollars USD a month with nice amenities and utilities plus with added bonus like paved roads, nearby doctors and pharmacies, business malls, theatres, festivals and the likes...Please, don't price the Gambia out for expats. Do your homework. Expats too are looking for good deals from around the world and most of us are savy shoppers. We like Africa of course but for most of us money is not limitless...

    • @benkarl1274
      @benkarl1274 Před 4 lety +23

      I'm also seeing this greedy behavior in Ghana. What they don't understand is that there are more established communities with fairer prices. You can still get descent housing in some parts of the U.S. and Canada for $1000. A $1000 is a very nice villa in Portugal. Part of the draw to Africa was the lower cost of living and the peace of mind of not having to work to death to pay your bills. You take that away by being greedy, people will just stay home or look elsewhere. And when we do end up picking Thailand, Vietnam or Panama they'll wonder why we skipped Africa. If this whole going back to Africa and returning home fizzles out, greedy real estate and people price gouging will be the main reason. It's sad.

      @@benkarl1274 This is the dream of everyone leaving the West. We are all looking for better pasture. It does not matter what race or ethnicity we belong to. Whites are mostly moving to East Asia and Eastern Europe like you said Portugal, but there are even better prices in Latvia, Slovenia, Romania, Georgia (Europe) and the likes with beautifully serene beaches and mountains, good food and architecture not to mention solid infrastructures. In a picturesque southern France near les Pyrennes, one can find a very comfortable house or apartment for just $500 USD and the list goes on. In southeast Asia, a very comfortable house can be found starting at 175 USD per month. Africa was my dream destination for many reasons and of course is my heritage. I know I can make a difference there. I have lived in Europe and in Asia although I am an American citizen. New York is my hometown. In many countries I have cited above one can live on $1000 per month including rent. I am hoping this diasporan exodus will not turn into a fiasco. Already I personally know how whites are making fun of us moving to Africa. They think that continental Africans are largely taking advantage of us by overpricing everything. The diaspora needs to exercise due diligence...

    Wow $1,000 a calendar month or D400,000 a year !!!!!!!! That is EUROPEAN price nearly. A nice 4 bedrrom house in UK is £1,200 a month. Are you seriously suggesting TG is only slightly cheaper than the West lol. Shockingly overpriced. Its easily possible to rent a nice comfortable 3 bed apartment in TG for between D72,000 and D100,000 a year. These costs quoted here are Rip off TOUBAB prices. How do I know? I rent a lovely 3 bed apartment in Sukuta for D72,000 a year.

      Me Me I'm also seeing rental prices in Ghana becoming more expensive than Manhattan in NYC. This is very sad and discouraging because it will lead a bad taste in people's mouth. No one is going to want to rent or buy with these ridiculous prices and the economy will remain stagnant. Thailand grew because it attracted a lot of people with cheap housing and cost of living. They didn't immediately jack up prices once people started paying attention to them. Africa has a golden opportunity and they're going to squander it by being greedy.

    Hi Isatu, thank you for your effort in bringing information about The Gambia to us in the diaspora. I am agreeing with many of the posts that rental is too much. In less than a year I see prices of houses and land have skyrocketed to high heavens. Rental of houses is no less overpriced. In some cases the money amount is even more than it is more developed developed countries. I would hate to think that Gambians offering land and houses for sale or rent think that we in the diaspora are idiots or simpletons. If these astronomical prices continue, soon The Gambia will see less and less people settling or visiting. I am beginning to have some doubts about whether I should visit the country.

    This is so sad. Art Cathy showed some huge compounds for four hundred a month. He hears DIASPORIANS coming suddenly it's a thousand a month. That is such a turn off and gonna turn many people off who's rearing to come to GAMBIA. They think Americans are rich. Eight hundred is usually someone monthly fixed income. With that one would figure 3-4 hundred a month and the other four to take care of his needs. If he thinks high income people are coming to Gambia in droves he is mistaken. They are in the minority. All the rush he is expecting to come have been just diminished to less than half by his greed. The price is ridiculous. Black people ain't rich like that!

Remember BAG and Art Cathy been informing us. Rent that high must be in governments official neighborhoods if at all. Everybody from Europe and Asia were enjoying that low rent for decades. Why when we DIASPORIANS wants to return we are being ripped off when the white man has way more money than us. We going elsewhere. Zambia is a fraction of that rent and way more developed.

      Patricia also they forget that the people who will most likely come will take a significant pay cut from their jobs in the U.S and likely be on retirement income or savings before they can generate any business income. These prices are price like people are still making u.s. income without the u.s amenities. I believe BAG family also live in a large compound for much cheaper. They talked about how when they first came how much they had to financially struggle. If they had to pay that much they probably wouldn't have come. They even hinted that's why they picked Gambia over Ghana. Imagine how many other BAG types of families these price gougers are deterring.
