  • I have been testing the Kia Sportage for over 11 years now and it's the one car that has improved every year. This latest version means that Kia has really bounded forward with a 70kms range from the battery and a big boot this could be the ultimate family hatchback with an SUV side

    You can configure the dual mode screen to default to either mode, or stay on whatever you last used. Press and hold the mode switching button (quite a while, just keep holding) and the options will be displayed.

    I still think the Sportage has some of the best exterior design on sale on this planet. Its refresh cycle is even more impressive. Kia-Hyundai are releasing some of the most innovative car designs anyone is currently making for the mass market. From a South Korean company - competing in the US AND Europe. The Kia6/Ionic 5 are near the best EVs on sale - bar Tesla. Most other SUVs are so bland as to be near invisible.

    Great review, 70 km range on electric is great, your ladt review on pole to pole highlighted charger anxiety in this country tú ó great effect, now it looks live we will have electricity anxiety as well...
    I am a firm believer that electric cars are for towns / city's for air quality and petrol / diesel for long commutes, this can deliver on both fronts for the next 10 years.

    • @stephendoherty8291
      @stephendoherty8291 Před rokem

      Yes but since air quality in cities are regularly failing you'll have to accept paying either a high congestion charge to enter the city with your fossil fuel car or park and ride at the city boundries. Even London with a high level of EVs and phevs as well as the charge still has chronic air quality so the charge will keep rising and other UK cities are to copy it. Most phevs still have woeful electric range. Petrol is likely to be let become more expensive until diesel demand drops dramatically for commercial transport but the London congestion charge applies to diesel commercial as well and dirtier diesels pay a higher fee. So as long as you don't regularly travel into future Dublin or perhaps Cork/Galway from your rural home then petrol-diesel will be fine. Note used diesel car prices in the U.K. keep falling due to lower demand and petrol generates higher C02 which like here = higher car tax

  • @stephendoherty8291
    @stephendoherty8291 Před rokem

    PHEVs with much longer range can be an interim answer but its still just a more efficient hybrid. Its still emitting C02 (and other toxic stuff). At present it gets a free cut in car tax but those car tax bands have to change to incentivise near zero emissions. Most PHEVs real range is so low as to be near useless (bar driving around the town car park) or stuck in traffic. Studies showed that most never recharged the car otherwise as the time vs range was not worth the effort. The reason for buying them anyway and the extra cost - lower car tax/old SEAI grants and the regular massive commute to some rural location. PHEV grants from the gov do not apply anymore and all that battery weight not charged as well as a full ICE engine when it is charged make PHEVs as they stand neither fish nor fowl. A halfway house that falls between. Most PHEVs have slow charging, low EV range (even lower in reality), higher cost and at some stage more expensive maintenance and more frequent need to replace the battery (if its even worth the cost for such a small range). Once the grants have ended for PHEVs and the car maker is not subsiding it to ship metal, its sales tank like a sinking Titanic. Useless examples were Prius plugin/All BMW-Merc PHEVs and the iconic Outlander PHEV.
