This is the lead song of the coming new animated movie White Snake 2, the Tribulation of the Green Snake. The film, which is a sequel to 2019’s ‘White Snake’, follows Verta, Xiao Qing (Green) as she sets out on a magical journey to rescue Blanca, Xiao Bai (White) who has been imprisoned by a Buddhist Monk, Fahai in the Lei Feng Pagoda by the West Lake in Hangzhou.
The theme of the movie is ‘obsession’ and the name of the song is called ‘Asking Flowers’. I guess the creative idea is borrowed from a famous poem: “Asking the flowers but the flowers never respond….” As the flowers bloom and wither, after many many lifetimes, Verta still refused to be reincarnated by the Monk, Fahai and has always tried to fight him back in order to rescue her best friend, Blanca.
White Snake 2 portrayed Verta’s character growth and development. The song expresses Verta’s inner voice, her internal conflicts and her lonely struggles in fighting with the monk, and also how much she misses and loves Blanca. Will her obsession result in a tribulation or a blessing? Is Asuraville a real thing or is it a fantasized world that only exits in her mind because of her obsession? Can Verta escape from Asuraville? Can she save Blanca? What do the flowers represent?

The setting of the White Snake is in the beautiful West Lake area of Hangzhou. This folklore carries Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian beliefs and thoughts. Fate, reincarnation, virtues and sins, liberation, enlightenment…. There have been many artistic interpretations of White Snake. Can’t wait to see this one! 🥰🥰🥰
