    My brother told me too early Christians would draw half the fish in the dirt and if someone else would draw the other half that would show them to be a Christian as well. But using it for a pointer makes sense too.

      That is interesting. I've not heard that but it definitely sounds believable.

      Yes! I teach this in my catechism class. I read that it was done in the market place. One person would draw half of it with their foot and if the other person was Christian then he/she would complete the fish. There were other symbols but the fish was the most commonly known.

    This is probably the oldest acronym (a word made from the initials of a phrase) still in use. The Roman SPQR is older but it’s strictly speaking an initialism rather than an acronym (though many people today use the terms interchangeably).

    Incidentally, the Romans used the symbol of a fish to indicate a funeral or vigil and being superstitious would not go in a house or area where a fish symbol was hung.

    • @JoinUsInVR
      @JoinUsInVR Před 9 měsíci

      Is that true or rumor? Jesus wouldn't be the Christ and savior if He didn't first have a funeral, and second be able to come back and tell folks all about it. So, it kind of makes sense that future gatherings would be associated with a funeral in some sense.

      @@annarodriguez9868 can you clarify the question you're answering? I was asking about your claim that the fish symbol was used by the Romans...
      The evidence for the truth of Christ's crucifixion and Resurrection is overwhelming. I believe in that and don't need examples of that. Though if you're claiming his crucifixion and Resurrection didn't happen, then I would be curious to know what makes you so sure.

    Doesn’t the acknowledgement of the ichthys running parallel to Christ imply heretics and blasphemy? Considering it isn’t anywhere stated in the Bible and therefore isn’t canonical.

    • @annarodriguez9868
      @annarodriguez9868 Před rokem +1

      It's a Christian tradition. Not everything that was said or done by the first Christians is in the Bible, but were passed down to us.
      The fish was a secret symbol for other Christians to follow and know where to meet or who to trust.
      Remember Jesus said His disciples would be fishers of men and so this became a good sign or symbol for the followers of Christ.
      Peace and blessings 🙏

    We're in the Age of Pisces.
    Then later they thought: ICHTUS, maybe we can make a cool abbreviation with it!
    But first was Pisces because of the Age of Pisces.
    We're still in the Age of Pisces, for as long as the sun will be in Pisces on the 21st of March (until 2300 or so)

    Look up Pythagoras Fish Symbol. It is originally the symbol of the followers of Pythagoras and is one of his mathematical equations. Christians stole it. Bet they didn't teach you that in Bible school.

    • @2BeLikeChrist
      @2BeLikeChrist  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Why does it matter if Christians borrowed it? Historically, lots of symbols have been borrowed and repurposed for other causes.

    • @Sign-ify
      @Sign-ify Před 8 měsíci

      @@2BeLikeChrist Because facts matter. Christianity has used thee process of 'borrowing' other cultures forms of identity and then claim it as their own and ignoring the facts of the true origin. In fact it is well recognised that Christianity literally took all their symbols and practices form other cultures and claimed them as their own. There is nothing original in the Jesus Story or the customs of the last supper, modern traditions of Christmas is based on Yuletide and Easter is pagan Equinox. The fact that you responded with "Why does it matter...?" provides the evidence that you rather stick to faith over fact. Facts Matter. They make for a well educated population that respects democracy over theocracy.

      @@cristoRedentor119 There is extensive historical evidence that the ichthys symbol was used by early Christians and not by pagans, so Old Testament admonitions don’t apply. The symbol of the cross is also not mentioned in Scripture, but I doubt too many Christians would reject it on the same grounds. Likewise the Doxology, the Apostles’ Creed, and so on are all traditions that don’t appear in the Bible as such but have been used by Christians since ancient times.
      By the way, the Puritans considered the observance of Christmas to be pagan. In that case there actually are pagan roots for some Christmas traditions, but Christians have long adopted those traditions and made them their own. To each his own, but it seems silly to me to frown on Christmas decorations and the like.
