    Note to hikers from an AT Trail medic. Telling your buddies to go on without you can be a fatal mistake. Praise be for the wisdom and compassion of your friends. Ovarian torsion is something only surgery can fix. Just know we will hike in to you and chopper you out if you get sick or hurt. We can get your coordinates from your phone if in service. Keep it charged. Keep a flashlight with a beacon. Much love, take good care. The mountains are your Mother. ❤

    What a small world we live in…..I work in Admin at the hospital where you had the surgery and so glad you had a great experience there; and in my little town of Blairsville!! Your courage and strength not only to thru hike but to make it those 5 miles is incredible! Two years later, I hope you’re still doing great!

    You are easily one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen, inside and out. I am so glad things turned out the way they did. The Lord was watching out for you that day indeed. Like others have said, you never ever leave someone in pain or injured like that alone. And it’s quite common for the injured or sick to not want to slow the group up and encourage others to go on without them, or leave them alone.

    Crazy. It happened to me too. Mine was a softball sized dermoid cyst on my right ovary. I also needed surgery to have it removed. It destroyed my entire ovary and Fallopian tube. The crazy part is the doctor said I have had it for years and years and it continue to grow without my knowledge. It’s insane to think that you I was walking around with that inside me without any clue. Thank God I still have one remaining ovary so I don’t go rocketing into early menopause. So at the end of the day I’m grateful for that. I’m glad you’re well and you made it. Thank God for all those people looking after you somebody was watching over you that day!!!

I spent all day in the hospital into the night before the pain started to subside. The Lord took care of me throughout this whole thing as he took care of you. I’m so glad you got through this. I am still dealing with problems related to my ordeal. Thanks for letting us know what you went through. God bless you!

    @mb692100 Před 3 lety +14

    Hey Kelly... Ever since my last comment I've been struggling to think of something else to say that might encourage and help you after that heart-wrenching ordeal you endured. Then it hit me as I reread the comments here.
    In those comments there is something phenomenal. It's the amount of love expressed to you. It's more than just pious platitudes or cheerleader-like "get well soon" exhortations. It's the heart-felt love, support and appreciation of your expression of faith, that fairly oozes out from nearly every comment. After many years of hiking and after watching countless hiking vlogs, I have never observed any hiker who has become so quickly beloved as you--- none. To thru-hike the AT is an incredible feat. But to win the admiration, love and respect of an audience because of your motivation, genuineness and character is perhaps an even a greater accomplishment.
    So, the next time your spirit sags and you get one of those down-in-the-dumps, "slough of despond" moments, stop....grab a Snickers, kick back and reread those comments again. Then remind yourself that there's a mighty big audience out there that truly cares for you.... an audience who respects you..... an audience whose heart you have won. Many vloggers have captured a large audience. Only a few have won its heart... and you've done both.
    And when you're feeling a bit low, remember that the Maker of Heaven and Earth can use the trail as a great teacher. Sometimes it shows us that the burdens of the present can transform into the blessings of the future. Sometimes it teaches us that nothing very bad nor very good lasts very long. Sometimes it teaches us that brokenness precedes blessings.
    There are good days ahead for you. Stay the course. Get back on trail after you've healed, and when you do, there will be an eager audience here to cheer you on.

    I was shocked and saddened to hear of this terrible event that happened to you. My son did the AT in 2016, which drew me to at trail videos. I watched your beginning randomly, but quickly decided to follow you this year all of the way to the end. My criteria is simple....people who have the heart and drive to finish, because most don’t. You clearly are the real deal and I and thousands of others will watch you complete your dream. I shed a few tears hearing the story you told because my son was sick on the trail for several days also, though not as severe as you. But the good news is...he got better and in September of 2016 he climbed Katahtin. The hike changed his life and who he is. Sorry for the long note, just thought this might help a little bit😎🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀Much luck!

    This is not about finishing what you started on the A.T. but it is a love story of our Lord and Savior and this is your time to share how good He is...I believe is your destiny to walk into. Singing and praising the Lord as you get back on the trail will bring forth blessings on the trail that will saturate it with His glory.

    We viewed your Day 6 video. Its an amazing story of how you were able to survive not only the hike out but the entire ordeal. You are for sure very brave and truly blessed. We will continue to view your videos once you get back out there. However, take your time to heal and prepare. We will be praying for you and your recovery. Thank goodness that your friends were there too and you were not alone.

    Last week I decided in 5 years I'm retiring and going to through hike the AT at age 65. Six years ago I was 320 lbs and could hardly walk because I was so heavy. I started walking and then led to running. The running community saved my life. It sounds like the trail family is the same. I randomly found your posts on CZcams this morning and wanted to follow your journey. I'm so sorry this happened, but God has other plans right now for you. When you get back on the AT, you'll be healthy again and ready to go. I hope I am as fortunate as you have been that I'll meet other AT hikers as nice as you and your trail family. Praying for you until your next video on the trail.

    Hey Kelly... As a member of the so-called "dominant male species" I have no hesitation in saying that I cried all the way through this video. There were tears of sadness because of the pain and disappointment you faced... seeing that hand reaching out of the truck to wave "bye' to you at the B&B was heartbreaking as I thought about how crushed you must have felt, separated from the trail and your friends. But there were tears of joy too. Not just mine but more importantly.. God's.
    Could the Great Spirit of Creation himself be anymore pleased than to hear one of His own praise Him when she is in intense pain and uncertain about survival? If there is a climax to your whole experience it is that very moment starting at 9:57 where you said: "I'm going to get through this. I'm still praising the Lord even through this hard time because He was the only reason that I made it out of camp...." I'm certain all the heavenly host turned to our Lord and said: "Look at Kelly down there. She barely survived and is in excruciating pain and yet she's still praising You." I wouldn't be surprised if the Lord's heart shouted for joy and He said: "Thank you Kelly. Now we both know how much you love me." Who knows: maybe Job chimed in to say. "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him..." Job 13:15
    Praying for a complete and fast recovery for you. Please remember that nothing "just happens." God causes some things to happen and He allows some things to happen but nothing "just happens" without first being filtered through His heart of love for our good and ultimately His praise. Your testimony of faith, your courage, strength and endurance are beyond exemplary, and you are an inspiration to all of us.
    And.. thank you Grace, Stephanie, James, and also Paul and Bonnie at Your Home in the Woods B&B for all you did for Kelly. You have demonstrated why there is no finer group of people than the hiking community.

    My wife went through something very similar a couple years ago. Heart wrenching for me to witness. Keep this all in perspective. When it is all said and done, this is a very small setback. Of course you will continue and finish. This isn’t the end of the world. At the end of the trail this will be but a very small chapter in the complete story. Onward girl!!!
