How fast is a Class 101? Train Sim World 2

  • Take the most humble of passenger trains, crank it up and throw it down the luge on the LGV Mediterranean. Why? Because reasons that's why. Just how fast can you make a train with a rumoured top speed of 70 MPH go down a 3.5% slope? Why do you want to know? You do want to know though, don't you? This is something entirely pointless in Train Sim World 2.
    You're welcome.
    ***********
Once in a while I post something of value in here.
No, that isn't true except for in the super-secret secret message section right at the very end of the description. To get to that point you'll have to scroll past a big lump of links and nonsense all of which will enrich your life... if you let them.
How would you like to seize control of the bombastic outro? As a performing video monkey I'm now offering you the opportunity to do just that. Within reason. Obviously, I won't tell you where the line of "within reason" resides, but you can try it and find out. Swing by my Wisio and I'll see what I can do : www.wisio.com/...
Right, this is how you can get the very best out of this channel, and lend a significant chunk of help toward its future success. If you have $1 per month you can gain access to exclusive videos, the magical Discord channel, and consider yourself a member of Fail Brigade:
Option 1 (several different tiers available): Patreon - / colonelfailure
    Option 2 (one size-fits all): CZcams - www.youtube.co...
All new merchandise everybody! That's what you want. Forget paying the rent! Buy a tshirt instead : colonelfailure.com
Do you want to follow a Twitter account that is actually cheerful? Not in the kind of way that offers life-affirming, inspirational text with a waterfall in the background, but in a jolly, acerbic kind of way? Follow me on Twitter. That's what I do. / cnlfailure
Do you want to know what videos are coming up each week? A few people do. I don't always get around to publishing the schedule, but when I do, I do it on Facebook. Not sure why I chose Facebook, but there you are. / cnlfailure
That's all for now. You can go about your business.
(*) - Today's secret: Do not panic. This is not the format I'll be following with future train sim videos. It's a one off because many people have asked me to try it out. YES THEY HAVE. I DID NOT IMAGINE THEM.

After many years of traveling on a BR 101, I can honestly say that if it fell off a cliff, the BR 101 still wouldn't hit 160 KMH.

And colonel failure has answered the question "is a triple-headed American GP38 faster than a BR type 101 [ whilst pulling empty coal hoppers] " as I've pondered this question often whilst in the bath and now we know. It's not often that CF does a bit of the science stuff but a first non the less. Other science-based channels please take note.

24:00 had me laughing out loud. Honestly, if you followed this "format" of TSW videos going forward, I wouldn't mind. Grabbing an absolutely out of place loco/train and trying to beat an absolutely arbitrarily set milestone or goal seems like exactly the way this channel would tackle such content. Next time, try the speed test with the old Isle of Wight tube stock, I'd watch it.

As a child riding on these it was always a happy day when the driver left the blinds up so you could sit in the front passenger seat and see what they were doing. The driver would press the big knob when the train beeped coming up to an amber/ red signal. Is that AWS perhaps? (I don't know the names of things...)

Reminds me of my favorite Grateful Dead tune 'Tons Of Steel
    Lyrics -
I know these rails we're on like I know my lady's smile,
We see a dozen dreams in every passing mile.
Can't begin to count the trips she and I have made,
But I wish I had a dollar for each time we've both been down this grade.
And a hundred thousand tons of steel, made to roll.
The brakes don't work and this grade's too steep, her engine's sure to blow.
And a hundred thousand tons of steel, out of control,
She's more a roller coaster than the train I used to know.
It's one hell of an understatement, to say she can't be beat.
She's temperamental, more a bitch than a machine.
She wasn't built to travel at speed or through mud slides.
These wheels are bound to jump the tracks before they burn like the ties
And a hundred thousand tons of steel, made to roll.
The brakes don't work and this grade's too steep, her engine's sure to blow.
And a hundred thousand tons of steel, out of control,
She's more a roller coaster than the train I used to know.
Murphy sure out done himself to pick this stretch of track
I can only hope my luck is ridin' in the back.
Well I have pray to god this ain't the day we meet,
I've done about everything, but try dragging my feet.
And a hundred thousand tons of steel, made to roll.
The brakes don't work and this grade's too steep, her engine's sure to blow.
And a hundred thousand tons of steel, out of control,
She's more a roller coaster than the train I used to know.
