- Join Penn Rail Videos as we take you trackside along the former Norfolk & Western Railway between Lynchburg and Petersburg, Virginia.
This is the chase of "The Cavalier", the named train of the N&W that once ran on this line. The excursion is pulled by none other then recently-restored Norfolk & Western J-Class 4-8-4 #611.
View scenes along the beautiful Virginia countryside, as we follow the train on a full round trip between the two cities. Listen to the iconic baritone whistle, witness the power and speed of the magnificent machine, and a true living piece of N&W history, brought to you by Penn Rail Videos.
Great shots! Great video! Anyone else find themselves getting annoyed with the engineers whistling? Or am I crazy?
All I can say is wow..... Great Video! Love the scene with the Ild Pennsylvania Signals and the stop and go scene.
just brings tears to my eyes my favorite steam engine once sitting cold and on display is now running
I saw 611 in Spencer, NC in 2014 and Manassas, VA in 2015 which is last year, means 2 times!!!
Truly beautiful loco. One day, I hope to ride behind her if I get over to the USA.
Me too!
Did you ever get to?
Splendid video! Wonderful work!
611 looking nicely hauling a train that J class engines once hauled during the late 40s to mid 50s. Funny bit was that N&W passenger trains were never over 10 - 15 passenger cars long...
There's me at 17:59! Sweet! Great shots of the 611, really enjoyed! :)
I got a free cab ride aboard 611 on her return to Ronake VA
one of the best,loved it
Excellent video!
I loved the video, that whistle is to high pitched though, it sounds like they need to close the valve in the whistle a bit. it sounds like it has to much steam going through it, the original whistle was beautiful.
Wish you could inspire CSX to do steam trains..
I worked on that
Great video. But why isn't there anyone sticking their heads out the windows? That's the best part about riding on a train.
Ns doesn't allow that no more.
Will you be chasing N&W #611 again this year? If so which trips will you be taking?
Will hope to be there for the Roanoke trips.
