Baby Seal Hurt By Rubber Ring

- While on patrol Naude, Denzil and Antoine saw a pup with a deep cut around his neck. Denzil and Antoine Took off running before Naude could even stop the car!
Denzil managed to catch him by hand and the activists got to work. The pup had a single rubber ring around his neck, and it was cutting deep into his skin. The material is something they have encountered a few times in the last 2 months. It's from a heat exchanger, which is used in cooling systems on big ships. We suspect a large batch of this must have been dumped or lost accidentally overboard somewhere quite recently, as this type of entanglement has not been encountered at all in the last 8 years. 🦭

2:21 He's shaking--The rings were so embedded the pain must have been excruciating. As always cannot thank you guys enough for all the care you take to not cause these animals anymore pain when removing these terrible things.
Watching the seal shudder in pain as you’re removing the gasket was heart wrenching.
Absolutely.
Like pulling off a band aide really fast!.......
One of the saddest I have seen in a while. I am super glad you found this pup before it suffered too much.
So are we!
I'm really ashamed of what we have done to those poor souls. Thanks for saving them guys 🙏🏻
We cannot imagine how much pain that seal had to live with. You guys are just amazing.
Thank you very much!
Cute ears on this sea puppy. Thank you for saving them from pain and death.
Our pleasure!
Ohhhh that poor baby. This was the first time I saw one shudder during the rescue and I felt that pain myself. I am glad he/she will heal. Thank you.
Our pleasure!
Thank you guys for saving the seal.
Our pleasure!
*That thick rubber was super tight.😨 The puppy must have been struggling breathing and obviously in pain.🥺 Glad you guys managed to help the puppy before it gets worse. You guys are doing an outstanding work!🙌🏼*
It was already bad but she will make it. Thank you very much!
@@OceanConservationNamibia How many dead seals have you found when you began your rescue?
Yikes, this one was tough, poor little seal... thank goodness you found her in time!! I'm all teary eyed at how much better her life will be now! Don't forget to support however you can... watch the ads, donate to their GoFundMe or join their Patreon!! Every little bit helps 💙
Thank you very much!
I am baffled by the thought of what has to be thousands of maritime sailors who make their living on the seas, tossing their shit overboard. I remember one time last year while fishing off of San Diego, a plastic bag flew into the water, and the captain of this 120 foot boat, turned it around so the crew could gaff it. Full respect of the environment! Another great video guys!
Thank you very much!
That's a true captain of the sea
OR they did it so that their own propeller wouldn't get caught up in it. That happened to me with SOMEONE ELSE'S PLASTIC BAG.
Had to jump into cold bay water to untangle bag from around prop or I couldn't restart motor.
We rented out a boat and captain in Puerto Vallarta .... he ended up pulling in so much trash that day! One whole bag of trash that ripped apart while he was trying to pull it in ... what a damn disgusting mess we make :(
Thanks for sharing
Imagine the relief they feel when that tight ring gets pulled off their neck.
I dont think we can begin to imagine it. 🕊
see the bit of the ring digging in? I dont think it was relief until later on, because it really cut into its throat when it came out. nasty peice of eqiptment that. very paintful. But to be fair that last move he did with the sissors to pop it out was a very clutch move that could have been much worse. These guys are really good
That’s true. She will really feel better in a few hours, when she can actually take big breath to dive and play with her friends.
The seal literally looked like she was crying..sad..
All seals do that. They excrete very thick, oily tears to protect their eyes from the salt water of the ocean.
She looked sad indeed.
💔💔
@@WobblesandBean Yeah but teared-up-eyes are also a sign of pyhsical pain in animals, I believe.
Not quite sure, but if you hit someone on the nose, their eyes will water too. Drooling is also a pain-response.
This seal might've also responded to the pain and sudden surprise with tears. Actual sadness is not with tears, as far as I know.
I believe they understand that something is wrong. All those plastic things and nets looks awful & really dangerous
Clearly, you saved the life of that little one. I can't imagine how difficult it was for it to breath much less eat. I wish my vision were as good as those on your team too.
🙂
Храни вас Бог за доброе дело!!!
Poor thing. The expression of pain was clearly visible on seal's snout at one point.
Indeed.
@@OceanConservationNamibia Have you considered bringing snacks for your patients, like the bat rescuers are doing?
Heartbreaking. 😣
@@TheMongooseOfDoom No they don't feed wild animals and Denzil. 😳
@@mikegrand4181 but maybe they calm down if you give them food
I cannot imagine his suffering before you came to the rescue. He will feel so good, my God!!! I cannot stop watching your videos it’s incredible what you 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Thank you very much!
That baby was trembling in pain when he started to pull the gasket down. What a bunch of beauties these folks are. Xxxx
Oh my, sweet darling, this did hurt. So nice you managed to remove it after all❣️
What’s terrible is that these guys find seals to save every single day. Sometimes multiple ones in a day.
Marilyn Russell how is that terrible?
@@miaterry9354 cause that means there is plenty of stuff getting around the neck of these seals, did you really not get it?
Because that means this happens regularly which is bad.
21 seals and one bird rescued so far this week...
Troy Walt but that means that they are saving a lot of seals...
This is Korea!
The seals are freed from pain.
Our hero, God bless us.
Thank you, brothers.

That looked like a medieval torture device! And I'm sure it must of felt torturous! Thanks team! 🤗🏆💪✌️💜
"Puppy what have you done?" Antoine 2020.
Hahaha!
Poor thing, should've said, "Puppy, what have THEY done?" Would like to have seen the pup going into the water before panning back to the rescuers.
I watch all your videos because I want support your channel, I find it hard to watch the videos when there are hooks involved, I feel so sorry for them, and at the same time so ashamed that it's us humans that cause so much suffering, I love you guys and thi I what you do is beyond amazing x
Be the change. Please consider banning single use plastic and seafood from your life.
I want a t-shirt with a seal being rescued, the caption "It's okay puppy" and your logo on it please. I want to support what you do.
Maybe one day 🙂

Holy Crap engine room, don't throw your junk in the ocean. DUH

Yeah , like the level of negligence, unconsciousness and ignorance is beyond me.

this isn't really some 'dumb' guys being negligent, it's the product of the wasteful and destructive society we live in :c

Yay!
well, humans are the ones to blame for animals being in that situation in the first place, so we kinda owe them,,,
Puppy is so cute
Indeed.
Poor, sweet, pup. Much gratitude to these rescuers.
Denzil did well, didn’t he? In learning you have to start somewhere...!
I like tp imagine that in the alternate universe, the seals are saving Naude and Antoine
Seals are a part of a healthy ocean. Humanity's survival depends on a healthy ocean. So in a sense, the seals are saving Naude, Antoine, yung jose, scupperjack, and everyone else. Ocean Conservation Namibia and others like them working to heal the oceans help everyone regardless of where you call home. No alternate universe required!
Yass
So true!
Hi
In this alternate universe Antoine should be howling like Walter the frenchie and I want to be part of the seals rescue team 😎
Bless you for making the world aware of the damage being caused to these beautiful creatures. I would never have known what causes the damage. Praying people will pay attention.
We!
The pup is so adorable and patiently waited to be saved 💗 💕 💓 💖 💛 ❤
Much as I love Naude and Antoine it was awesome to see Denzil doing a rescue. Stay safe guys
Yay!
Poor thing, he had a very deep wound! 😖Great job! 🇪🇸➡️🇳🇦🙌
Indeed.
Denzil, nice job- I know I could not grab a snarling seal-regardless whether it was a baby puppy-and then--“lift his head up”..I would have said no way-dig in the sand under him! Thank you for doing this. Hell of a way to die slowly strangling unable to eat and then unable to breath and you guys prevent that.Must feel Awesome after a day saving seals on the beach.
I second all that xxx
Absolutely!
Janice Hamm Well said! I also would have been afraid to lift his head. These guys are fearless!
🙌🙌🙌
She definitely was a fiesty girl at first. Then they realize the help is there. And they really calm down. Great job guys!!!
Indeed.
I think they realize this isn't a quick catch and kill, so they are waiting for their moment to escape from this strange ordeal. I think it's possible some of them recognize they've been helped rather than harmed. Some may make that connection later.
You brought tears to my eyes, just watching the job done knowing these creatures are rescued and free of pain & stress 🏆👍🏆✅✅🏆👍👼🏻👼🏻👼🏻
From Saudi Arabia: - We thank you for this wonderful work
We wish you success and happiness

I'd like to imagine an alternative universe where these ships are held accountable !
Let’s make it this world!!
@@OceanConservationNamibia With oil discharges the ships definitely get charged. It's plastics and rubber-like trash that angers me. I'm a retired ship's engineer and can tell you nothing goes over the side except garbage from the galley on US flag ships.
Perhaps all equipment on these fishing vessels should be marked with an I.D. where possible.
@@harrycurrie9664 I thought about that too but on a ring like this? Some might burn away the markings but it might motivate people to properly trash it.
Oh, poor little girl!!! But she is a fighter and she will recover completely!!!! Thanks so much, guys!!! Excellent job, Denzil!!!
I admire how you can be so gentle with these babys. 👏👏👏
Denzil on the go! 😊 Take care guys

Watching this video is more important than my zoom class
Hahaha!
It's short, call it a bathroom break!😂😂😂😂😂

THANK YOU Grothalor!!
Every day I wonder how they get entangled into those things! Good job, as always!
They just grow so fast, this is why it is difficult to understand how it happens.
Seals are very playful and curious in nature. It’s so sad that their natural abilities to wonder in their own habitat leads them to their demise because of human irresponsible actions
I admire the seals' fighting spirit and your bravery in helping them.
Wherever human goes, whatever he does, it's destruction and suffering to innocent lives. Thank you guys though. Great job.
Sois admirables...gracias por vuestra labor ❤❤❤❤

Some people just love to dislike. Awesome video. Very inspiring 🙂🙏👍The poor kid was in so much pain.
That one put tears in my eyes. Poor puppy.
Denzil, Antoine, very good job as always, thank you 😊
Who else was saying "It's ok Baby"
That thing would have eventually strangled him..why do humans do that. Learning from you guys on Sunday, they are very curious and play with whatever they find...
No I was thinking I would like to tie it around the neck of the person who threw it in the sea...the bastard.
@@phoebejones2070 Nobody "threw it in the sea". Unfortunately, waste from all of us eventually makes it into the ocean. It's easy to point the blame at some other guy so you don't feel like you're a bad person, by the truth is, we're all responsible. As long as plastics are manufactured, and we keep buying it, this will continue to happen.
Absolutely!
Anna Roberts. *puppy, not baby 🤭😉
@@WobblesandBean The objects in the bodies of these poor seals are from the fishing boats. They use gill nets which they know are illegal but still continue to use them. A lot of the items that are around the poor seals necks are tossed unwanted into the sea. Everything in my house gets recycled and what does not get recycled is sent abroad to use for heating. I am talking about these poor seals who every day have to be caught to relieve them from their pain.It is not only nets or rubber items around their throats but fishing hooks that are wedged in their mouth or flippers. I will not stop complaining about the fishing boats because they are the main cause of all this trash that is floating around in the water near these poor seals.
Seal: "I ran fast, they catch me, I thought they would eat me, silly me, all they wanted was my necklace".
🙂

A good pair of electricians sidecutters would be perfect for this. Short jaws and they cut through wire as well if there's any in the rubber ring. Great job as always!

The pup was more stifling than the pupies in the other video. The rubber looked very tough.
