    They said it; The Tuono Factory can ride around comfortably all day long in the soft sport mode then put it in track mode and give it the berries and holy crow it's absolutely insane. It's the most fun I've ever had on a bike.

    • @Antmanmoto
      @Antmanmoto Před 2 lety +3

      I think you have it backwards though unless they’ve change some thing. I have a 2018 and sport mode is the crap your pants hold onto your knickers mode… Race is medium lunacy, and track is the most tractable controllable smoothest power output. At least that’s how it is on mine like I said maybe they changed the modes around.

      @@Antmanmoto That might explain the poop stains. :)
      It's possible they changed it. Mine is a 2020 Factory. According to the manual; Sport mode is "recommended for road riding".
      Of course road riding on a Tuono is a different kind of experience. Maybe that's why they call it Sport Mode.

    Seriously, any of these bikes are unbelievable. I must admit that I own a SFV4 since April and tested the Aprilia and the BMW. It’s not which one‘s the best but which bike suits the owner. I love the bike to bits and been an owner of many other marks but his one sets my heart racing every time. I don’t believe in the best but rather the best for purpose and skill set. For me I know it’s not in the test but the mt10 for the money you can get a used one for is still the most epic street bike, the character, sound, handling and reliability are really top notch, I can’t wait to see what they do with the 2022 one, maybe it will be near the pointy end of this test next year.

      @@dannygernaat9961 you can’t compare the top end of a sport bike to a 160hp naked. My mt10 was much faster than my 2014 R1 to 10,000rpm and it feels just as potent mid range as my bro’s 2018 gsxr1000. With a woolich tune they gain about 15rwhp up top and they feel much faster then.
      The mt09 engine is great but the older chassi and suspension really lacks front end feel and on the highway the power doesn’t feel near a litre bike. I don’t know many people who prefer the 9 to the 10. The latest mt09 model might give it a run though.

    Owned a SFV4S and a Tuono factory. The Tuono is still here. Sold the SF. The Tuono is just a better bike for the street but the SF would be better on the track. The SF just doesn’t have good low end torque, you really have to rev it up to get power from it.

  • @Scootir185
    @Scootir185 Před 2 lety +56

    I've had the pleasure of owning 3 of these bikes - the SFV4, the SDR and now the Triumph ST. The SFV4 proved to be a lousy street bike - anemic at the bottom end and too crazy for the street once it got going. It also needed a gas station every 60 miles. The KTM was awesome but in 9 months of ownership it had 3 major mechanical failures and spent so much time in the shop that I finally had the dealer buy it back under the American lemon law. Tried the BMW which is characterless and boring (not to mention ugly) and the zH2 (heavy as a battleship, crap handling and also really ugly). Here in the states you pretty much can't find a dealer for either the Aprilia or the MV so they weren't really options. I've moved on to the Triple now and and am delighted with the bike - fantastic engine, beautiful handling and really comfortable. Very happy with where my naked journey has taken me.

    I think I started reading FB back when its editor was a Colin Schiller (hope I got the name right). Biking then was going through phase as sales dropped and your average person was struggling to run bikes and costs, and the mag gave people who wanted but could only really dream of the fast bikes covered - but there would oft be second hand or prior bike tests too.
    Biking now, is almost only a bastion for the rich, or upper middle class. The costs are bananas, the running costs are bananas. The Chinese bikes are slowly offering cheaper machines with utterly shitty service intervals. The bike industry can't understand the falling sales, interest, and its own demise.
    Triumph offered died in the wool Brits a redemption. Then priced them out of the game. Then made most of it in Thailand.
    Its going so well :/

      Bikes are more than they were in the 1990’s, sure, but it’s a huge stretch to say they’re only for the rich these days. The bikes on this list were all on the top end, so of course they’re expensive. But there are plenty of “super” class bikes under $10k, such as the Yamaha MT-09, Kawasaki Z900 and Suzuki Katana (Katana can be found new for just under $10k). A very competent and fun Kawasaki Z650 can be found for around $6,200, which is a crazy good deal

    The Ducati comes with a 200/60 profile rear tire, which Dunlop doesn't make. By fitting a 200/55 profile tire the rear will be lowered by a few cm, which is a considerable change to the geometry of the bike. Do you make any changes to the suspension to account for the rear tire change?

    I could (reluctantly) believe that the Ducati won the superbike shootout, especially when it didn't the years before having the same engine and chassis. But the Streetfighter? Also, 3rd place Supernaked (and in front of the Tuono, Triumph, the BMW) for the Kawasaki when it weighs a pillion more than any other bike in this test (it's more of a power cruiser, if you ask me). I also find it hard to believe that the Kawasaki handles better than any bike in this test! Finally, how does the Triumph makes 180hp every where else and only 170hp in this shootout? I find incredibly interesting that the BMW has more character than a triple (the latter is not directly said but clearly implied)! Great shootout 👍👍👍, but I will have to unsubscribe though! ☺️

    So there’s some important considerations of real world shit that you need to think about. First why buy a naked over a full on sports bike? So you can ride it a lot and not visit the chiropractor. Now that we settled that, do you know what the most important metric for how comfortable and all day rideable these bikes are ? It’s how tall you are. If you are a tall rider, the mythical comfort attributed to a lot of these machines vanishes into the ethers..Things like the Tuono. Upright bars? Check. Pegs in same place as an RSV? Oops, also check…If you are tall and evidently plan on riding a lot, as evidenced by being interested in a naked, there’s one bike in here you can ride all day long..repetitively. I’ll leave it to you to figure out which one. And if you didn’t care about comfort, we come back to the why get a naked in the first place?..
