    Beauty and the Beast (French: La Belle et la Bête) is a fairy tale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and published in 1740 in La Jeune Américaine et les contes marins (The Young American and Marine Tales). Her lengthy version was abridged, rewritten, and published by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont in 1756 in Magasin des enfants (Children's Collection) to produce the version most commonly retold and later by Andrew Lang in the Blue Fairy Book of his Fairy Book series in 1889. The fairy tale was influenced by Ancient Greek stories such as "Cupid and Psyche" from The Golden Ass, written by Lucius Apuleius Madaurensis in the 2nd century AD, and The Pig King, an Italian fairytale published by Giovanni Francesco Straparola in The Facetious Nights of Straparola around 1550.

    Louis XV (15 February 1710 - 10 May 1774), known as Louis the Beloved (French: le Bien-Aimé), was King of France from 1 September 1715 until his death in 1774. He succeeded his great-grandfather Louis XIV at the age of five. Until he reached maturity (then defined as his 13th birthday) on 15 February 1723, the kingdom was ruled by Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, as Regent of France. Cardinal Fleury was chief minister from 1726 until his death in 1743, at which time the king took sole control of the kingdom. (Beauty and the Beast. Originally Published in 1740).

    Variants of the tale are known across Europe. In France, for example, Zémire and Azor is an operatic version of the story, written by Marmontel and composed by Grétry in 1771, which had enormous success into the 19th century. Zémire and Azor is based on the second version of the tale. Amour pour amour (Love for love), by Pierre-Claude Nivelle de La Chaussée, is a 1742 play based on de Villeneuve's version. According to researchers at universities in Durham and Lisbon, the story originated about 4,000 years ago.

    Lovely vlog thank you. We are off to France / Belgium/Germany- Rhine area in the summer and although we have a sat nav I like to use real maps as well for planning a route. Just wondering what you use for route planning. There are several map books available not sure which to go with.

    • @HelenandMartinsTreks
      @HelenandMartinsTreks  Před 2 lety

      Hi Jo, thanks for the question, I use several map books. I have a large Philips European map book so I can look at a full route and see the “big” picture. For more detail I use both Philips A4 size books or A4 size Michelin books. Both makes do a great job but the Michelin ones have laminated pages so you can use marker pens on them. You can’t beat a good map. 😀 happy planning. 😁 Helen x

    Hi great help we are going to be 1st timers in Europe bit nervous .. camping car park do you need tap connector with screw thread ? Also would you recommend a dashcam? Merci beaucoup

    • @HelenandMartinsTreks
      @HelenandMartinsTreks  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching , I’m sure you’ll be fine . It’s much easier driving in Europe. I have a bag of tap adaptors of different sizes that I have collected over the years , but you will need some. Amazon did have them. Have you got the electric adaptors covered to. Camping Car Parks should be fine , but some of the aires and sites re still using two pin connectors so it’s good to carry an adaptor and a reverse polarity meter and adaptor too. Any other queries feel free to give us a shout . Good luck. Helen and Martin

    Can you stay in a caravan at those Aire parking sites

    • @HelenandMartinsTreks
      @HelenandMartinsTreks  Před 2 lety

      Sadly generally not , it was seeing those aires and realising the convenience of them while travelling through France with our Caravan and was the final push for us to swop t a Motorhome. Not the only reason but the icing on the cake as it wasn't easy for us to give up our caravan which we loved. Thanks for watching best wishes Helen and Martin.
