- SF critic, writer and bookseller Steve Andrews puts David Cronenberg's film(s) 'Crimes of the Future' into proper Science Fiction context, outlining their debts to earlier written SF, the auteur's wider oeuvre and the place of the 2022 version in contemporary genre cinema.
Steve also says: " This was my first ever voiceover video, which with limited tech was hard work, so there are some typos in the subtitles - curses!. I think the content is solid though,"

Don't forget Cronenberg also directed Viggo Mortensen in two excellent crime thrillers 'A History Of Violence' and 'Eastern Promises'. Both run at about 90 minutes and are shot in a very snappy ultraviolet style.
Yes, Viggo ascended to 'Ultimate Cronenberg Man' status with his third DC apearance in 'A Dangerous Method'. Now, the missing tile in the mosaic (there's a 'Stereo' reference) is the lack of 'Spider' on blu ray, for me his most underrated film, Fiennes delivering a career best. Take care, mate!
Really good overview of Cronenberg's horror/scifi career.
Thanks. There will be something more in depth in future.
I watched it on Amazon Prime recently and love it. It’s pure Cronenberg.
Yes, it's good to see him get this 1996 written project off the ground. If only other SF film-makers could catch up...
Heh. When the US DVD deluxe set of VIDEODROME arrived, I opened the parcel and was furious. They'd sent me a Beta tape is instead of DVDs! Needless to say that when the penny dropped, I felt rather foolish. 😄
I know the edition you mean, I have it too!
I got Crimes Of The Future in DVD format which I look forward to seeing soon. Have you read Cronenberg's novel, Consumed? I haven't read it yet, but it seems similar thematically to his films.
Yes, I had it preordered virtually years before it was published (it was delayed by many years). I was disappointed by it, If I'm honest. It's clever, but lacks the sharpness of his screenwriting and films.
Can’t wait to see this but as you say no sign of a release date here yet. I might just have to bite the bullet and order that Canadian release. I own all his others so I will have to have it for the collection.
I couldn't wait. Obviously there'll be a UK BD at some point, but as I'm region free, I thought 'Why wait?'. You'll love it.
@@outlawbookselleroriginal Region free as well so sod it i’m just going to get it!
Speaking of Mortensen . There is ' A History of Violence ' . Cronenberg invites ? forces ? us to take a good look at ourselves ( the job of good sf ? ) . And its not pleasant. There is the %%#% void . And he seems to be unapologetic . There is only the Body. Deal with it !!!.( just my opinion my take on Cronenberg ) And although my belief is the complete opposite , i do admire his work, and is a fan . Looking forward to seeing his latest . I have a copy of the book Existenz and i have seen the movie . Not his best but still a good watch . A seperate subject will be the expert critics respond to his movies . ' Crash ' being a fine example . And as i say he does not budge . May haps he has mellowed ?? . Any how thanks for heads up .
Yes. DC is solid and uncompromising even in his most untypical work.
