    I was in the navy, which carries marines around. A joke in the navy was,, if you saw marines, you could pretend you were standing in line for something. The marines, having no real job on the ship, would line up behind you, and then you could leave while the line would continuously grow with marines wanting to see what everyone is waiting for. (Actually we didnt have marines on my ship,,,, just LOTS of time for silly stories.)

      @@Demonai_Warrior actually Japan had a lot of pilot aces and experienced officers as well as a good navy and Air support. The Japanese lost the war mainly due to oil and resources shortage. The US also had a much more efficient industry and was able to quickly replace it losses, the US had much more ships and Japan built fewer but better ships like the Yamato as they weren't able to build as much, they built bigger and stronger,like the nazis. Kamikaze had a better operational range as they could use all their fuel instead of having to save half of it to return at their base, which doubled their range. Ironically, the US used tons of bombers (b-17 I think) in Germany and just sent them without enough escorts making them vulnerable to Germans aircrafts. B17 life expectancy was quite short (3 days for a crewmember of this flying grave ).

      I see legends as the only true Canon in the star wars canon

  • @Raska7
    @Raska7 Před 5 lety +435

    I'd like to say something real quick, I know the stormtrooper issue could've been fixed. The Stormtroopers are supposed to be an elite branch of highly capable soldiers that can end a battle in 20 minutes or less, but instead the movies and media portray them as everyday ordinary canon fodder that can't hit a target for crap. This is because the Stormtroopers are portrayed as the lowest of the low in the Empire in every source of Star Wars media; how to combat this idea and set piece for the Stormtroopers Corps would the inclusion of the Imperial Army. The Imperial Army (like the US Army) is far greater in size compared to the Stormtrooper Corps just like the US Army to the US Marine Corps, what should've been done in the film's is that the Stormtroopers should've a rare sighting, a foe that was far superior to the average everyday Imperial Army Soldier, a true force to be reckoned with. What I'm saying is that we should've seen more Army Troopers than we did with Stormtroopers. For example in Episode 4 the first thing we see are the Stormtroopers, they are fast, they are accurate, they are deadly, and they hardly care about slowing down for wounded, the very few that do get wounded at least. The Army should've been the ones on tatooine, they should've been the bumbling oafs that, easily getting force manipulated, miss their shots, and patrol and police Imperial occupied areas, (the last one is a thing our Army actually does so why do we see the equivalent to the Marine Corps doing it?). If the main focus canon fodder bad guy that any rebel could fight and win it should've been Army Troopers, show the scenes of where Luke and Ben found rubel of Sand Crawlers and bodies of those little sand guys and Uncle Owen and Aunt Boroo, show the audience that the Stormtroopers don't play around. Then when the big reveal for the Death Star comes, reveal the whole station is full of these elite troopers, a whole few battalions worth maybe even a few million! That would scare the piss out of not only the main cast but the audience too. Show the main cast trying to make more attempts at stealth rather then blowing their cover and shooting at whatever moves, when they are caught, make it so when a Stormtrooper does spot them, a main character will get shot but not in a vital area, showing that it's even more prevalent to avoid even one of these guys. Once the escape happens it will have more weight and relief because the audience was believed that some characters would actually die from this, and they almost did. Skip to the destruction of the Death Star and it's even more satisfying because a whole huge moon sized thing of Stormtroopers are dead, hell make the audience believe that was all the Stormtrooper Corps! Then when Episode V hits and the Battle of Hoth happens, the audience will be shocked and awed at the actual size of the Corps, and when they realize it's a whole invasion of just Stormtroopers, the battle will look even more hopeless. I could go on but but I think I made my point, make the main enemy weak Army troopers, then the Stormtroopers will have room to actually be down right menacing. If you made it this far thank you so much and like this comment to Generation Tech can see this and hopefully make a video on it. Thank you so much!

Also the Marines actually do more policing than the army does because they're usually the guards for different military installations. A better equivalent for the stormtroopers would be the Army Rangers or other special forces

    It would make more sense if the Stormtrooper Corps operated under the Navy, because they tend to be portrayed as similar to the United States Marine Corps in terms of posting and the operations they undertake: ship security, quick reaction force, boarding actions and expeditionary operations. • @TheJMan1K
      @TheJMan1K Před 5 lety +72

      Emiel Booth there’s a reason they are called stormtroopers. The fast moving drop ships allow them to deploy quickly and overrun a force. That was the idea of stormtroopers in ww1. Parties would move swiftly in the night overrunning enemy trenches with a surprise attack. Once the enemy is in shock the larger main force behind them moves in to take the trench and surrounding systems.

    If you want something really confusing, Imperial Japan was split into two different branches.
    The Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) was split into a naval, air and ground force. These were the Combined Fleet, Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service, and the Imperial Japanese Navy Land Forces
    The Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) also had their own branches, the army itself and the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service. The army also used their own ships, including several aircraft carriers.

Historically, different branches have always hated each other. "Ground pounders" always hate "swabbies." And "knuckle draggers" always hate "flyboys." They relay on one another, but all of them think they have the dirtier job.

It's one of those things they could definitely do a better job of explaining as to why the storm trooper armor, helmet, and never hitting rifle are superior. I would think with some sort of power assist system, some sort of heads up display connection with their rifle scopes, and a couple cans of green and black spray paint they'd sort most of it out.

    To note, the Stormtroopers were typically organized into Legions of about 9,000 plus men. Roughly Brigade-size. Unlike what most people think of Legions, namely Roman Legions, these weren't Heavy Infantry units. The term Legion had seen various usage over the centuries. By the end of the 18th Century, a Legion was no longer a Heavy Infantry force, but a Combined Arms Force. This would include organic Infantry, Artillery, and Cavalry.
    This style of Legion was greatly different from previous Legions which were specific type units. Sometimes, like with Roman Legions, they did have organic Artillery and Cavalry sections, but not all the time. The modern term of Legion is a dedicated Combined Arms Force that is completely organic. This also includes the Legion's own Logistics section and even Engineers. These weren't assigned Detachments, but actual elements of the Legion.
    The Stormtrooper Legions reflect this. In fact, most everything about Star Wars elements was drawn from military and history elements. That was achieved as staff members, especially the Wardrobe Department, had been involved in a variety of Military and Historical movies.
    Even sections of the actual movies were based on real military operations, history, and even movies, such as Dambusters for all three.
    Arguably, given its few heavy guns and large number of Secondary Guns, the average Star Destroyer has more in common with a Pre-Dreadnought Battleship. The Pre-Dreadnought Battleships predate what we consider a Battleship today. The title is gained from HMS Dreadnought of 1906, which was the first Battleship of its type, the Dreadnought Battleship.
    Incidentally, Elitist Attitudes were common at the time of Pre-Dreadnoughts among Naval Officers eager for big promotions while Army troops didn't receive as much attention.
    It was noted, as an example, that making sure the ship was nice and shiny and clean, was a big means for British Royal Navy XOs to get promoted. Gunnery Training was thus, officially discouraged because it dirtied up a ship.
    Which parallels the Imperial Navy of Star Wars, as they can hit an immovable planet, but struggle to hit Fighters and Freighters and the occasional odd ship, unless they immobilize them first.
    Seems like Gunnery Training in the Empire, was generally discouraged.
