    I'm a 6'3" guy and spent all elementary and high school cramped into a tiny school desk and developed a real bad posture, working to improve it now. Thanks for the info this is great!!

      I'm aware you commented this 2 years ago and I'm wondering how you're doing now? Has your posture improved / pain reduced by following advice like in the video? I have empathy for you as I'm quite tall (about 6'1 or 6'2) and almost everything in my home is the wrong height for me, from my chair and desk to the wash basin (it's horrible having to lean over or squat just to wash my hands/face). I've been thinking of spending some serious money on making my environment more suitable, of course it's rather costly getting things right but I hope it's worth it as the pain is definitely affecting my productivity. I have exercises to do to strengthen the aching joints and prevent damage but like the ergonomic guy said I think I need to address the core problem of Ill suited environment.

    This is very helpful! Surprisingly, there is a scarcity of useful information on the internet as you said,. Thank you, for making this video.

    Thanks so much for this video. I've been looking at so many pictures and this finally explained it in a way that makes sense.

    The most eye opening info here for me was the one about the arm rest. So I can ditch them completely? 😮

    I recommend Steve's videos, especially the ergonomics exercises. Although this video indicates that arm rests can be lowered/moved out of the way, I found that not using them causes pain in my shoulders after a few weeks. Our corporate ergonomist also recommended that I use the arm rests. With that said, I simply set them so that my arms are in line with reaching for the keyboard (approx a 90 degree angle).

      Michele Berry-Nuñez Arm rests can be useful especilaly if you have to reach but they can get in the way. Im glad they work for you.

    Hi Steve, have been watching your videos recently and learning a lot too, although I have a slightly silly question. Considering that these videos are now 11 years old, is all the information on this and your other videos still relevant today. According to you, that is. Or has new information changed any of this. Thanks.

    Good helpful information... but I'm diving for the volume control because your intro and outro are so loud and your voice is so much lower.

    It is amazing to me how those teaching people how to use a chair are sitting in less than optimal sitting positions themselves. Be change you want the world to change to.

      are you saying his posture is incorrect?

    • @TheErgonomicsGuy
      @TheErgonomicsGuy  Před 8 lety

      Ashley Taylor Yes. For using the keyboard it is a neutral posture.

    • @richardomel5303
      @richardomel5303 Před 8 lety

      Body posture is a dynamic process. In my mind, good body posture is about responding efficiently to the cues your body gives you relative to body position at any given point in time. Having the awareness to shift body positions from an inefficient structural/functional alignment towards the ideal structural/functional body alignment is a simple definition of good body posture. Just observe any young child as they navigate their environment; they will move instinctively and not get stuck in any one position of dis-ease.

    • @ashleytaylor994
      @ashleytaylor994 Před 8 lety

      Richard Omel children are so young that they can sit in a position of a rounded spine with no problem because they discs are in pristine condition. The wear and tear of some adults requires them to sit in a certain way and can't get away with the positions a child would.
