  • Comparing the G-Shock GBD-200 against the GBX-100. Both are G-Shock watches in the G-Shock Sports category and are fairly evenly matched in the M.I.P. display and workout functions. They both feature bluetooth for smartphone connectivity and cost about the same amount. However, they do have certain features that differ, and if you are undecided about which one to get, this video will offer some real-world usage information and opinions that are not on the spec sheets which will hopefully help you out.

    @9:09 You are mistaken on this, the the MIP display in reality consumes less energy by far than any other digital display! That's why (MIP) is such a good idea and so good for watches. The reason why there is no milliseconds/microseconds on this watches is that the MIP displays runs at 1Hertz [1Hz], 1 hertz equals one refresh rate per second, so MIP displays, for the moment can't show less than a second on any timer/countdown function. Maybe in a new and improved future version! Very good video.

I'd also like to mention that I bought them purely for their looks with the basic watch display on and don't intend to use any of the smartwatch functionalities. These MIP dials are amazing! 😱

    I love the GBX-100! I'm a G-Lide guy, and use the tide function almost every weekend...so phone syncing to change the tide data is a huge gamechanger. You don't need to be a surfer, just a regular beach goer. We like to get close to the surf so we can watch our kiddos splash around, and it's nice to know how close we should set up our shade tent and grill, without a surge coming up and soaking everything.
    Dissapointed with the limited editions so far. Night Swim was ok, but the Kanoa Ignarashi signature edition graphics just looks like the glass and bezel is all scratched up.

      The tide function is pretty cool alright, although I use it to check the level of the river in the city where I live. I wish that I picked up the white version to match my gwx5600c, although that doesn’t seem to be around any more - only on Japanese web sites.

    Great video, left me as undecided as before lol. love both, the color and metal bezel on the 100 are a notch above plus as you pointed out, better strap. I feel the overall design on 200 is better and the bit about better views in 200 is key. After all d get this watch for the display, though added doodads are cool, I just want the display.

    Thanks for this video review, I have actually been looking into these 2 new MIP display G Shocks and trying to decide so this comparison is just what I was looking for.
    For me I'm really liking the brushed metal bezel, looks much classier and also adds protection but each to their own. Also thanks for pointing out the air gap and showing how it makes the display clearer between them.
    However that pause coming out of the workout mode is disappointingly slow, it's almost a 10 second wait, not that I would use it much. I wonder if Casio will ever eliminate it in an update or wait until they replace the model?
    Are the negative displays on these easier to read in dim light or when viewing at an angle? I've tried a regular negative display Casio and was not impressed by the readability but I must admit I did like the Indigo like illumation.

      That delay only happens when you use the training mode, which I don’t as I only use it as a normal watch and the step counter. Not sure if they will fix it but the watch is capable of firmware updates. The MIP display is very good and very clear. Just be aware that it cannot refresh in tenths of seconds on the stopwatch.

    I just purchased the GBD 200 and didn't like it. It's claimed that the display is large and easy to read, the TIME digital display wasn't really that large nor was the MIP display very bright. If this watch is meant for surfer's then Casio should've went the extra mile and added a screw down steel case back. Like in the premium/anniversary 5600. I don't mind it being slightly more expensive, but those 4 screws and that slim rubber band don't work nowhere near as well as a proper screw back plate for water resistance, as the watch ages, I've seen many water damaged G shocks that had this flimsy case back design with the 4 screws

    • @urbanknish
      @urbanknish Před měsícem

      @@wristaction If I had to do it again, I would have just pulled the bezel off knowing it would tear the little screw holes. Because I ended up future-proofing the bezel by trimming out the screw holes. The holes where the bands are secured end up holding it and that is good enough. After pulling a clip off of a donor watch, I was able to clean and reassemble. Next time, I just have to remove the bands to clean the bezel.

    • @georgeg1947
      @georgeg1947 Před měsícem

      Let me make you aware of something. Casio put one screw next to each button on this particular model behind each of the 4 side buttons. You need to disassemble the watch and take out the module and then take off each C-clip from the inside of the watch case so you can pull out each of the 4 buttons on the side of the watch in order to get access to the screws that are behind each button and then take the screws out in order to take off the exterior rubber bezel.
      I believe that the only reason why Casio designed this particular model this way is so people who own this model cannot mod it. Casio is trying to prevent people who own this watch to attempt to mod it with different color bezels.
      You are better off just leaving the exterior rubber bezel alone and just cleaning the bezel on the outside. You can easily take both watch bands off by unscrewing the screws on the sides of the band if you ever need to replace the band. However, you will never be able to take the exterior rubber bezel off the watch unless you open up the watch and take the module out and take off the C-clips that hold each of the 4 side buttons in place.
      You are much better off leaving the exterior rubber bezel alone and not tampering with it.

    • @urbanknish
      @urbanknish Před měsícem

      @@georgeg1947 I was aware of this - I literally just said as much in fewer words. As to not removing the bezel - if you have the clear version (I do), soap, mineral deposits, etc get under and they are very visible. Miserable design. What I ended up doing: after I fully disassembled, I carefully cut out the material on the bezel where the screws are. Once reassembled, you don't notice it and the fit is perfect. Now I can take it apart by just removing the two screws at each band. Easy peasy.
