    Miku can sing both higher and lower harmonies, she just doesn't get enough credit for how amazing her voice actually is because we all know the story of how she stepped aside of being the main vocalist but it's kind of a miss nomer to call her backup. They refer to themselves in Japanese interviews as being a band with twin vocalists. A lot of the time when we are going nuts over Saiki's voice, and she is an awesome singer solo, it's because Miku's voice is there adding a ton of volume and lifting it up. Miku is 100% the support beam of this band in everything she does.

    No, you are not wrong. Miku is singing a low harmony part. She does this often. At one time I thought this was an effect (a harmonizer or something), but no, it's Miku singing in an extremely low register for a female voice. She has quite a large range.

    • @greylocke100
      @greylocke100 Před měsícem +5

      From another:
      Miku the Secondary Lead Vocalist is a Mezzo-Soprano, meaning she can sing lower and higher than Saiki the Primary Lead Vocalist, who is a Contralto/Alto. However Miku doesn't have the same vocal power that Saiki does. I have two different analogies explaining it. The first is audiophile: Miku only has a pre-amp installed, while Saiki has has the pre-amp and amplifier installed. The second is the hose: Take a hose with a screw nozzle, open it up so it covers the largest area, it doesn't spray very far or hard, that is Miku's voice. Tighten up the nozzle and now it can go very far with much more power, but it doesn't cover as wide an area, that is Saiki's voice.

    • @ALAN_COX
      @ALAN_COX Před měsícem +3

      Yes, Miku backing Saiki in a low register is not as noticeable as when she does so in a high register, and she does it quite often.

  • @Davey-Boyd
    @Davey-Boyd Před měsícem +25

    Hii Princess! Yep, Miku has both a higher and lower singing range than Saiki. But Miku doesn't have the 'power' that Saiki does. Miku's singing is what I call 'sweet'. They compliment each other perfectly.
    "Kate" features two Band-Maid tracks. "Choose Me" they are playing it on stage during a club scene - yeah they appear in the film playing themselves. Also "Blooming" is played on a car radio during a scene. The director was later interviewed wearing a Band-Maid T-shirt too - he's a fan.

    In an unofficial fan listener capacity (rather than reactor), you have to check out Ohrenje's Yokohama Arena "Choose Me" video assembled from 24 fancam shots. It was legit to shoot phone video during that one song and he did an amazing job of cutting together 24 camera POVs. Seeing Kanami, Misa and Saiki stroll around the arena while playing/singing and then seeing Kanami and Misa having to jog trot back to the stage while playing to hit their marks is waaaay cool.

    It’s Power Pop. Easily one of BAND-MAID’s most accessible songs.
    MINCHO’s solo expresses a sense of optimism and boundless possibilities.
    The best part of KATE is the two moments in which we hear BAND-MAID, both of which are incidental: once playing in the background during a car chase; and once as they are playing in stage in a club which is the setting for a chase on foot.

The cadence, syncopation and soulful expression, like in Choose Me, is rare and kinda old-school-rock exceptional. There's a low harmony on the backing track. I'm not sure who sings it, but I don't think the low part is live. The reason I'm sure of this is because they aborted Choose Me at their February 11th, 2021 livestream and the backing track continued after they stopped playing, and the low part can be clearly heard. I guess they were hearing multiple copies or something in their in-ear monitors. The outtake was left out of the video release obviously, but they put the whole incident on Band-Maid Prime because it's all pretty funny. The video is called "Super DARADARA Time (Super Lazy Time)" for anyone who wants to look it up on Prime. It took 11 minutes to resume the show, so they entertained the viewers and themselves.

I remember thinking that drummers and flutists had great memories since they could not or did not use those flippers that held the music scores while marching during practice. Eventually everyone had to memorize all the marching music.

    One of their best songs for me. The studio track really holds up next to the live version on this one. Kanami’s second solo is perfection in that version, especially the part you said was very Van Halen.

    Vocally *Band Maid* is unstoppable.
    Miku has a larger range than Saiki, but lacks the power of Saiki.
    For me Miku is the blanket that wraps around Saki's powerful voice. Making pure harmony.

    Yes, they have a small cameo in the movie "Kate". "Blooming" is also used in the movie. "Blooming" also has 2 Kanami solos. More Kanami...not a problem here. 😂 All the other Maidiacs have already mentioned Miku's range, but have you heard? Miku has a wider range than Saiki, but not as much power? 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry had to. Love Band-Maid Sundays! Keep up the great awesome reactions Princesses NittPicc. PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘

    Supposedly, Saiki's favorite song to sing. I group this song with Puzzle, and Secret My Lips. I imagine Kanami is doing variations on a theme of troubled love, and Miku responding with these lyric sets.

    No better role models than BAND-MAID. They serve, but are never subservient. Yes, they are in Kate. They play the band in the club, and they're on the car radio. Yes, Miku can sing with quite a range. That note in 'Sayonakidori' she was afraid she could not hit, but Kanami knew it was in her range, and she pulled it off beautifully..

    I recommend KATE! It's actually a pretty decent action movie, with a lead badass female heroin. And yes Band-Maid are (shortly) featured in it as themselves but there's another japanese star: the amazing singer/guitarist MIYAVI in a ... killer role 😁. Actually, the whole soundtrack is excellent!

    if only for a genius songwriter channeling her inner larry carlton for an intro, i would highly suggest another version of this song courtesy of their london gig pre-pandemic. it's a footage from 2018, during their wd promotional tour.
    but am not singling mincho-zilla out in that version. the rest of the ensemble created an intro that, in my book, is one of the coolest song intros ever played. damn intro beat, damn in-the- pocket bass, damn whole note chords.

    Another strong role model is cellist Tina Guo. Struggling, spent her meager savings on the Queen Bee MV which got her noticed (metal Rimsky Korsakov!) and now works frequently with Hans Zimmer -- yeah that one. Unabashedly honest and transparent about some important factors for a woman to be successful in the industry. She continues with metal cello, sometimes at Waken, often ear- and eye-popping covers of movie themes. Guest performed at some of the Battlestar Galactica Orchestra shows, and her version if its Passacaglia is by far my favorite.

    I watched 'Kate' specifically because Band Maid was in it, and was pleasantly surprised that 2 of their songs were featured, with 'Choose Me' being in a live concert setting. (Also pleasantly surprised when the scene moved out of the club but the entire remainder of the song was used as the background music. The music fit the scene perfectly, so it kind of made a seamless transition from one scene to the next.) As for Kate, be warned that the body count is pretty high. I thought the strength of the movie was in the various relationships between several characters. They were atypical but engaging. I like movies with pyrotechnics and cool physical acting, but if a connection isn't made on a human to human level, it just an exercise in stunt work. I've heard mixed revues on the movie, and honestly, the story could have been kind of crappy and I still would have liked seeing Band Maid in it, but on almost every level, the movie was well done, and worth watching. Just remember about the body count.....for the more sensitive viewers.

    NittPicc, you are such an impressive listener. Just when I thought Miku’s switch from higher third to lower was going to get by you…8:38. You caught it.
    And your anticipation of a MISA statement was prescient. Not only does she do the interlude, jazzy bit, catch the very last measures of the song. She chose to wail up high all the way out.
    And to think, this was only their third single 🤷🏻

    Sometimes, MISA ends up playing the foundation of the song, so she restrains herself and simply plays to allow the others to shine. If you remove MISA's part, you'll find the song changes significantly and just does not have the same feel at all to it....
    Having said that, Saiki did totally piano-solo this song in the Yokohoma concert. The feel of the song did change tremendously, yet it worked. It's now official - all the Band-Maid members now have the ability to manipulate their own songs to produce vastly different interpretations, Saiki being the latest one to do it. Love both versions of "Choose Me" by the way.

    Miku has the range and Saiki is the power. I'm a fan of the MV, it was one of the first songs I'd ever heard from the Maids. That MV is all about Saiki and that long crazy drum fills of Akane's. The way Saiki just looks at the camera just long enough to tease your soul into submission to her, like the lyrics of the song. 😍Also it is wonderful that we get a two-fer of Kanami solos. This song is always in my top 10. The movie was pretty good with Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Ramona from "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World", Huntress in "Birds of Prey..." and she's also in the "Ashoka" Star Wars TV series) and Woody Harrelson. The Maids make a cameo in a club jamming and later on the song "Blooming" is used during a car scene.

    A couple of things:
    Miku rarely gets acknowledged for her lyrics. She’s brilliant. Being able to combine Japanese and English in context within the song is amazing.
    Try watching an OMV and official live in the same video. ‘Rinne’ is a good song for this. It’s short and really hits you in the face from the start.

    Choose Me is one of my favorite songs by Band Maid, but the lyrics hit me the hardest, they are just so perfect for the tenor of the story in the song. And they bring out, to me, the strong but still soft nature of the character in the song. I hope that doesn't sound too dumb, I just couldn't put the words together properly. When you hear lyrics from popular music today here there's no beauty in them. Another good example is Yuko Suzuhana from Wagakki Band. She writes some magnificent lyrics, as do Machiya and Asa from WGB. There's a classiness that's missing in our popular music today.
    Two of their shows I was at I was right in front of Kanami and got to hear her playing up close and it's really amazing. I think that some of their best live videos come from the Shibuya Line Cube 2020 shows just before everything shut down.

    Miku has wider vocal range than Saiki. Up until World Domination era, Band-Maid relied on Miku to sing very low and very high harmonies.
    FYI I checked Miku and Saiki's vocal range on my piano the other day (out of curiosity) and Miku's was D2 - A5 and Saiki's is E2 - F#5 (although the web info is different for some reason).
    The way Band-Maid arrange harmony is ingenious imo. Miku's low voice sounds almost like a man, while Saiki still sounds like Saiki.
    If you don't watch the live video you might think there's male vocal used in the backing track. 😂
