Which currently ranked opponent did Leon Edwards beat before his title shot last year? It’ll probably be zero or 1. Rankings don’t really matter that much. Stipe will be fighting for a title but doesn’t have a top 10 win, similar thing Jones & Strickland before their title shots. In fact Cannonier was more ‘deserving’ of a title shot Strickland but it happened that way. Ranked wins are a minimal consideration.

Colby been dropped 5 times in his last 4 fights Masvidal dropped him and Usman had 2 knockdowns in both fights. Fought Woodley in between the Usman fights. This time he's getting slept good and proper.
For the people who say Khabib's record is padded, you have to say the same about this guy. And I think Colby's record is even worse cause Khabib's competition really leveled up when he entered the UFC (beating prime RDA, prime Barboza, prime Poirier and prime Gaethje), while Colby's best victories are all against washed-up fighters (old Woodley, old Maia, old RDA, old Masvidal and old Lawler). The names in both records are good but the timing is what makes the difference here. Don't get me wrong, Colby is an outstanding fighter, but he should be facing at least 2 ranked opponents before getting a title fight.

Both Usman and Leon have downplayed Colby's overhyped cardio, too. In the post-fight presser when Usman beat him the first time, he said "where is this gas tank?" everyone is talking about. Leon said as much in his octagon interview "I knew I was a better athlete... everyone kept going on about his cardio... I know I can match him cardio for cardio"
And Dana was proven completely wrong when he said "If Usman doesn't exist, Colby is the champion." He was trying so hard to push him to be champ just because they share the same political views.

Colby has been training for Leon since the third Usman vs Edwards fight, he was the stand in. Nate even rocked Leon. Although you made alot of good points about Colby. Either way it should be a good fight and card.
Age doesnt really concern me too much, its his inactivity that worries me. Hes taking way too long between fights to be jumping right in with leon for the title.
Age should kind of concern you though. The record for fighters between the weight classes of flyweight and welterweight aged 35 and above is 2-20 in title fights. The inactivity definitely won’t help him either though.

I still pick Covington. Leon Edwards hasn't fought anyone with the cardio and pace of Colby. Unlike Kamaru Colby's legs are still good and he is more likely to try to take you down and try to get to a dominant position than Edwards. Plus Edwards best weapon is his kicks and he won't be able to throw as many as Colby will fight in close range or try to take him down. Also, with how every underdog has been beating every champ I take Colby.

It puts the opponent on constant wrestling defense and opens them up to strikes. Once his opponent gets used to defending takedowns, they get popped in the mush. When they defend strikes they get wrestled

Leon fought Gunnar Nelson, an older RDA than Colby beat and then Nate Diaz before getting a title shot lol his competition is a bit sus too (and he nearly got finished by Diaz and Bryan Barbarena lmao) Colby’s style and skill set clearly shows he is at the level of Usman and Leon was competitive with a gunshy Usman, Colby will be a lot better than you think dude but very interesting to see. 🔥

I have to agree Leon is just better, he has the phisycal attributes, striking, fight iq, grappling, more power in hia shots and Colby does have the wrestling and cardio, but even his chin is starting to fade slowly and he doesn't have the strength and size that Usman has, like he might have the skill but he doesn't have the strength and he isn't the best with leg kicks and we all know what Leon will do to them, I have Leon winning 49-46 or a late stoppage.
But it too late since Lucas is so strongly believe Leon going win and now it over leon
