  • Optimize vaccine appointments to save the world with OptaPlanner AI
Planning coronavirus vaccinations for distributed vaccination centers is far more complex than it looks on the surface. Who gets which vaccine, when and where? There are planning constraints. For example, we must adhere to national policies to vaccinate the priority groups and the elderly first. But we should also minimize travel distance. Did you know that vaccination rates are actually influenced by how far people need to travel to get one? It can strengthen herd immunity. Not to mention the impact on CO² emissions from all that transportation. Save the world - plan local vaccinations. But stay within the capacity of each vaccination center. And maximize throughput, too.
If that wasn’t hard enough, there are also 2nd dose constraints. Use the same vaccine. And inject that 2nd dose exactly n number of days later, depending on the vaccine.
Let me show you how we optimize this with OptaPlanner - an open source AI constraint solver - to reduce travel time, cut CO² emissions, distribute capacity to maximize throughput, inject the elderly first and get that 2nd dose in people’s arms on exactly the right date.
