  • The Digipak is the most popular CD packaging format today. Its high gloss makes your graphics look amazing, the clear plastic tray holds your CD securely in place (and displays the image underneath), and the recycled board actually makes it more environmentally friendly. It’s also quite affordable.
    In today’s Indie Music Minute, Disc Makers CEO Tony van Veen shows you-from scratch-how we make your CDs in Digipaks: We start the video tour at the printing press, then show you every next step: UV coating, die-cutting, folding and gluing, and final tray and disc assembly and poly wrap.
    Tony loves showing our disc manufacturing and printing operation to artists like you because he's so proud of our team and the work they do for artists each and every day.
    Join him on the tour. We're confident you’ll love it (and you may learn a thing or two).

    Awesome to see this. I can only imagine what it was like to see my wife's CD being created, with her cover photo flying by one after the other, and folders printed and the whole thing wrapped. Thanks Tony for letting us in on the manufacturing side of things as it really brings to life just what your company does.

    It's like "How It's Made" for musicians. I have an email in to DM for an album I made 8 years ago (now sold out) wondering if you keep the parts on file? Hope so. I want to bring it back to life.

    I really enjoy these videos. That show the process of how the equipment in your factory works. I guess that is the machine and electronic nerd in me…

    That’s all really quite amazing! And to think, y’all had to retire all those cassette tape making machines to graduate to compact disc manufacturing. Or maybe you still have a place for those as well?
    Y’all have produced our cassette and CD albums for nearly 40 years!

    • @tonyvv
      @tonyvv Před měsícem +1

      Awesome, thanks for being a loyal customer! No, the cassette equipment is long gone, running somewhere in Ethiopia…

  • @rogerbourne4377
    @rogerbourne4377 Před měsícem

    So the tray and CD/DVD are added at the same time when being poly wrapped?

    • @tonyvv
      @tonyvv Před měsícem

      Well, yes. The discs are manufactured separately. The board is printed, die-cut, folded, and glued separately. And then during final assembly, in one flow the disc is inserted in the tray, the tray is glued onto the board, the Digipak is closed, and then it's poly wrapped and boxed.

  • @johnricco5366
    @johnricco5366 Před rokem +1

    better question. why the digipak? vastly inferior to the jewel case which provides real protection and has never been improved upon. trying to emulate the lp with cd inserted into a flimsy hard to access piece of cardboard is no improvement. one step forward and 10 back.

      I like digipaks for the artwork and because they’re convenient. Jewel cases are clunky, and i can only fit about 5 of them in my center console. With digipaks, I get at least 8 in there

    • @johnricco5366
      @johnricco5366 Před 3 měsíci

      @@J0N0AL jewel cases are very compact and still the best protection after 40 years of cds. trying to improve on them is like trying to reinvent the wheel. these cardboard digipaks and all that just the companies way of trying to replicate the lp sleeve which became shoddy even dvds could have been better served using the jewel case instead of those larger storage cases. that way storing cds and dvds together could have been perfect. standard size for both formats. i have over 1200 cds. easy compact storage on 2 book cases i adapted to utilize space. 2 rows per shelf. most of the few digipaks i purchased i modified to fit in a jewel case and the few i couldn't don't fit in as well with the standard jewel cases. plus,like lp covers,they tend to fall apart over time.- it never got better than the jewel case for protection. whats as bad or worse than digipaks are these slimline cases. the hinges continually break and theres no spine view so they can only be viewed fom the front. another mistake. good only for disc media storage. and lastly jewel cases allow for easy spine viewing,like cassettes. lps are terrible as trying to read the spines is impossible.

      @TheVoiceInYourHeadd Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@J0N0ALAgreed. I hate jewel cases. They always break at the connecting points and then the case is useless. The digipak displays the art better without a flimsy insert sheet too.
