TLDR: I'm so grateful that this video is a source of peace for so many of you. I made it for my wife when we started dating. She needed a safe space and I wanted to give it to her in a way that it would always be available. Thanks for 1,000,000 views and please remember that gentleness is the balm of mankind.
So... I made this loop for my then girlfriend as a Christmas gift. After it blew up in views, I promised her that if it ever hit 1 million (as if that would ever be possible), I'd post about the story of how we fell in love. Cheesy, I know, but that was the promise. Coincidence of all coincidences, we got married the day this hit 1 million views, so I've gotta make good on that promise. But Ill try to keep it short. To preface, I am a trans man and my wife is cis and bi.
My wife says that the first time she saw me she thought "Wow, they look like home." Unfortunately, we both attended a small hyper-conservative Catholic college. We both had to face our own self hatred for being queer, the social shame of being THE ONLY queer couple, and the prolific disciplinary action enacted on us by the administration and professors. In the face of all this, we realized that this wasn't a fling, we loved each other. But even still, the backlash was too great and we broke up out of fear of being expelled. The night we decided to do this, she just kept playing the track Nemo Egg on repeat and had to go back to her laptop every minute to replay it. I decided then, in the face of young heartbreak, that I was going to make this exact video for her.
Fortunately, we couldn't stay away from each other and got back together. That kicked off YEARS and struggling to find identity outside of our narrow view of faith. We lost all our old friends who shunned us for loving each other. We lost our families who refused to support their kids for being queer. We were written up at the Title IX office for "sexual misconduct" because of an incident where we walked and held hands. So we took our relationship underground. Didn't admit it to even close friends for 3 years. And slowly we started to pick up the small queers who were being run over like we had been. We made a family of those queer people. We found that the narrow view of love given by Catholicism did nothing but hurt our community. When COVID hit, we knew we needed to jump ship because going back to live with our families was not safe. So we took a leap of faith and rented a house with other members of our queer family. From there, my girlfriend and I finally had a safe enough environment to be able to grow in our relationship without fear of backlash. It was a beautiful thing to learn to love each other in peace, when we had spent our whole lives believing (because of Traditional Catholicism) we would never find love or happiness while remaining in our faith community. And on those nights that it was hard, because of faith, the world burning, or just stress, we would listen to this track and remember the home we had found in each other.
My love, you are hardworking, kind, stubborn, filled with wonder, brilliantly smart, and there is no one I admire more. Even if we hadn't met at that wretched place, I know the universe would have brought us together some other time. You are inevitable to me. See how our love has made a safe place 1 Million times over for these good people.
    All our love and support,
    Israel and Elizabeth

    Life will always continue.
It'll go on, no matter what.
We love, we cry, we move on.
We work at our jobs, we see our children grow up and eventually we die.
It's the short time you spent here that counts, it's what you leave behind and how you made people feel.
    Find your truth, enjoy life.

Annie - you’re not living until you find something to die for. I was always told that and never understood what it meant. I do now tho. The relationships we build with our family and friends are so important because that’s how we go on. When you impact someone in such a way that you leave a mark in their heart, you’ll live on forever in that person and them in you. Life is what YOU make of it. So make it beautiful in your image.

We’re all a little heart broken in one way or another but the most important thing to remember is to just keep swimming because it’s moments like these.. moments where you can genuinely feel the music in your soul.. you can feel it grab you heart and squeeze it as hard as it can.. moments where you read a comment that so perfectly explains the feelings that you hadn’t been able to give words to.. moments where you feel a little less alone. We all need those moments.. they’re far and few between but they make all the heartache worth it

Work on being the best version of yourself. Focus on upgrading your software AKA your MIND. The one thing I always thought about while growing up is that I never wanted to struggle in life. That hits me deep and makes me emotional even more than I already get because I don't have a dad. Hes walked out on me. But never do I ever let that get me down now, I look at things in an optimistic way, even while looking at the most toughest, toughest, bare, horrible parts of life, I remain optimistic. Sometimes, I close my eyes and just breathe and listen to this song.
The once ragged and tiring breaths slow down to a much calmer one. You lie down still as you feel the slow, consistent pulse through your fingers and chest. Your chest rises and falls with small weight on each one. You can feel the air flowing and the movement of the empty emotion flowing through the air. You are not exactly sure what it is but you feel it. Is it nostalgia? Loneliness? Contentment? You are not sure as you feel so empty but full of emotion at the same time. All you know is that you are there. Not dwelling on the past, not worrying about the future. You are there in the present.
There is still a hint of fear and anxiety luring around the corner-no, a whole crowd of fear and anxiety is ready to jump at you. You’re scared, even terrified. This fear threatens to quicken your heartbeat and ruin the feeling you have right now. But it all soon disappears as you remember the words: “I will never let anything happen to you, Nemo.” Though these words are meant for an imaginary fish on a screen, you can’t help but feel the comfort of the words seep into your skin as you can almost feel the hug surrounding you tightly. You cry a bit both in sadness, loneliness, and happiness. No one ever said that to you. No one ever loved you hard enough to hug you as you cry. To listen to all of your troubles but still be there to comfort you. To encourage and make you smile when you are sad. To not prevent your tears from flowing but to cry with you. To protect you when you feel insecure and scared. No one has ever said that to you.
You cry harder now. You are sad and a bit depressed to be honest. You don’t realize that you are hugging yourself tightly now. But with the final melody of the music, it all of sudden makes sense. It clicks right in. The room stops spinning and you can feel your pulse starting to calm down again. It doesn’t matter if no one has ever said that to you. It doesn’t matter if no one loves you. Because you can. You can love yourself. You can hug yourself when you feel sad. You can cry a long with yourself when you don’t feel so good. You can protect yourself when you are scared. You can say “I love you” to yourself. It doesn’t matter if others don’t believe in you. Only you need to. You can do it. You mean so much. You are important. You are okay. You’ll never let something happen to you. Because you love you.
What once was an obvious fact to ourselves has dulled over and over over centuries of years. Social media, social interactions, everything today causes us to forget the basic fact of our lives. The one thing that must always stand true. Before others can love you, you must love yourself. If you can’t love yourself, how can others love you? You realize that all this time, you hated yourself. You despised every little thing about you. Why are you so fat? Why can’t you be smart as the rest of them? Why are you so rude? Why are you so ugly? Why are you so obsessive? Why are you so you? But you forgot that maybe, no one thinks this except you. Maybe, you believe that others don’t-others can’t love you because you don’t believe you can love yourself.
As the music flows through your ears and into your soul, you learn the most important thing in life. More than what you learn in the prisons you call classrooms. More than what you learn in jobs, colleges, or even life itself. It’s that it’s okay to be okay. You don’t need to feel happy or sad. You don’t need to be perfect or damaged. You don’t need to feel anything at all. You don’t need to be tall or short. Fat or skinny. Pretty or ugly. Smart or dumb. You don’t need to be anything at all. You just gotta be you. And that’s enough. It’s okay to feel empty. It’s okay to feel “fine”. It’s okay to be just “okay”. It’s okay because you are you. Because you love yourself. Because you’ll never let anything happen to you.
(Sorry for the huge ass writing... i just wanted to share my emotions)

A terrifying feeling that time floats so fast and we all grow up that fast. I am scared of what happens next in this world. Sometimes i wish i could go back in time where i saw the world from a different perspective and just was endless happy.
When i hear this theme i see the sun in the evening, looking right at me as a young boy, being joyful. That just makes me cry, because of sadness but also gratefulness. And it kinda also makes me happy, i don’t know why. It’s a feeling that movies like Toy Story or Kung Fu Panda also give me.

I got so angry and overwhelmed with my infant then suddenly the scene of Marlon came into my mind of him holding Nemo saying "there there. Daddy's here. Daddys got you." And I realized she's just so tiny like Nemo was in that scene. She's not crying for any other reason than she needs me. Needless to say I cried like a baby, picked her up, and gave her lots of cuddles.

Sometimes I wonder why I’m even here, but then I remember, I was born in 2000. Gifted with an absolute treasure chest of movies to grow up with and reflect on 23 years later. Back when movies taught children lessons in life. *Finding Nemo:* To keep trying no matter how hard things get.
*Kung Fu Panda:* Pursue your dreams.
*UP:* Understand compassion and empathy for others.
*Wall-E:* Integrity is everything. *Ratatouille:* Teamwork makes the dream work.
*Monsters Inc:* Setting aside differences to help others in need. *The Lion King:* Overcoming hard times, to better yourself.
As a kid, you really don’t think much about the movies you watch it’s just funny, and sad, and entertaining. But I see now how much little things like good movies helped develop who I am as a person. Finding Nemo is definitely one of those movies.

Anyone else with daddy issues crying their eyes out 😭. I realised pretty fast as a kid that my dad didn't give a shit about me or my siblings otherwise he'd have been there. I wanted a dad like Marlin who would do anything for their child because he loved them. And that's why this movie still makes me cry like I'm five years old.

When I was little my only friend was CDs. I was a kind of shy kid My brother would go and buy new movies for me every time I ask to him, my mom and dad couldn't do it, they had to work seven-and-a-half. It was very difficult for them to make time for us, maybe they didn't even know us properly then... But sometimes it felt lonely, While there is a fight outside, behind the closed door, while you are scared when you are little, the movies continue from behind.."Keep swimming, keep swimming!" At that time, I would stay in my room full of stickers and CDs with pistachio green walls, with the shouting voice of my brother, mother and father. But the cds would sound again "keep swimming!" This is what happened when I was just learning to read... I'm preparing for college now, my family still argues, but now I can handle it. I continue to swim.

This always makes me feel so calm. It allows me to miss the simplicity of my childhood, all whilst being immersed in it. I remember watching the film 19 years ago at the cinema with my little family, and feeling wrapped up in my Dad's arms in front of the huge screen and blackened surroundings. I was mesmerised. My sister not so much, as she fell asleep - something we continue to joke about to this day.
I live alone now, at 23 years old and 100 miles away as I work towards gaining my career. I come back to this when things seem too tough, too complicated or just a bit lonely. It takes me back to that very day in the cinema; a day that I never knew would mean so much almost 20 years on. I miss my family, and I miss being kid.
