Hike the needle Rarotonga | Cross Island trek Cook Islands

- Hiking the needle is a MUST-DO while in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. The cross island hike is 3.7 mile trail that features a waterfall. The trail goes across the island, from the north of the island to the south. The view from the top of the Needle, or Te Rua Manga, is stunning. You can see the ocean from both the north and south side of the island.
The hike is a challenging but rewarding hike. It can be done on your own or with a guide. The hike is fairly steep, and requires you to use your hands and feet. There are some spots where you are just climbing up (and down) by tree roots. Make sure to bring a lot of water, and have good hiking shoes. There are many streams that you must cross over, and if its been super wet in Rarotonga, the trail will be super wet.

I did the walk in Dec. 1991. It was great, but I was totally exhausted when I reached the top near the bottom of the Needle. Walk the walk and talk the talk on Raro. đ€đđ
