  • In this interview, Jurgen and I discuss the big picture and purpose of his village scale autonomous solar heat and power systems. We talk about empowering the global south and the connections between harnessing solar power and natural building. We explain the basics of Jurgen's Sunpulse 500, Envelope Power Greenhouse, and Heat Battery. The Sunpulse 500 is one of many solar concentrators developed by Jurgen at his research sites in Portugal and Germany. These concentrators capture solar heat which runs a stirling engine that produces power, while simultaneously pumping water and storing heat in an insulated storage battery. The Envelope Power Greenhouse captures wavelengths of light that are not used by plants to grow and concentrates this as heat which is stored in the heat battery as well.
