  • Drone Talk Ep3 with Mark Colborn, Member of The FAA's Drone Advisory Board discusses how and why to use the "B4UFLY" app before you fly your drone to see if you are in legal airspace. And, how to get a LAANC clearance in restricted airspace if posable. Its easier than you think!

    Love this post guys! Am always looking for more to share with others and prospective future flyers who are thinking of flying. I live near an Air Force Base, and the color changed today to a yellow area. I do use B4UFLY all the time. How to get more details to questions will be nice. Enrolled to get my Part 107 thru Pilot Institute. Thanks for the help.

    This is great, thank you. One clarification: the FAA UAS web page for TFRs and the FAA UAS web page for B4UFLY both state that the B4UFLY app *does* show TFRs. (The UAS TFR page also has a link to the TFR List page that can be searched by Center and state.)

    • @b4ugo
      @b4ugo  Před rokem +1

      Yes, you do have to check the TRF’s. Wish there was a way to have it on the B4U FLY app. You can still get in trouble if you don’t because it dosnt Geofence Your drone like airspace

    I'm new to drones. Is Air Map the same as Air Control? The only Air Map I could find was Air Map Beta, which had a lot of problems loading. What I find discouraging is to drive to a public park that is five miles away, only to find out I'm in a controlled airspace, and no matter how many steps I go through, I can't get authorization and my drone's propellers won't engage.

    Thanks for the video, I'm coming to the US for a trip in few days with my Mavic Mini, I wanted to get some causal shots, I understand I dont need to register it as its under 250g, but from my understanding if I'm in a zone that needs a LAANC, I'll need to register the drone to use the app to get that LAANC to fly under 150ft feet? Or can I get a LAANC without registering the drone? Thanks!

    • @b4ugo
      @b4ugo  Před rokem +1

      great question, yes, you will need to enter the number to get a LAANC but its only $5 for 2 years, looking forward to seeing how that changes after remote Id kicks in, thanks for the question

      you dont need to cancel a LAANC, if you never use it, it just goes away, many times I will get one the day before because I know ill have internet problem in that area, but then its rainy or to windy and I never go. No problem. Thanks for being a responsable Drone Pilot!

      No, if your in class G with no, NOTAMS or TFR’s! (Temporary Flight Restrictions) sometimes they have to put those up, like if the President is in town.

    Hi I have a question that I’m very frustrated with. I’m a part 107 drone pilot, I photograph commercial properties. Today I was in a zone close to the airport, I went in B4UFLY and I could request LAANC up to 100 feet so I did. I have a mavic 2, but when I power up my mavic, it tells me that I’m in a no fly zone and cannot take off. Ultimately I was unable to take off even though I have authorization. There were no TFRs in the area. What am I supposed to do in this situation and why does the mavic map not match the B4UFLY map? How can I force the drone to fly because I know I have authorization. I tried to self unlock but to no avail I couldn’t get that to work. Client is probably upset with me because there was another unit in this complex who got pictures done and it had drone photos, yet I could take off. It’s embarrassing and makes me look amateur, but makes me wonder if that photographer broke the rules. Why can I not take off?

    • @b4ugo
      @b4ugo  Před 2 lety

      Two things, one, did your phone have internet connection? It has to have it to proceed with the clearance. Second, the LAANC system has been glitchy lately, a couple of weeks ago it was down all day. Sorry for your troubles. I used to carry a Autel with me if I ever ran into trouble but it’s been a long time since it didn’t work. Please let me know and thanks for watching!

    • @WR3ND
      @WR3ND Před rokem +2

      DJI has their own geo-locked maps and coordinates as well that you have to unlock through them and authorization from their site and app. Their restrictions are similar, but not the same as the actual FAA ones. So basically, you have to get LAANC approval and then provide it to DJI to get approval from them for your drone too.

    • @b4ugo
      @b4ugo  Před rokem

      Sorry, you can only fly BVLOS with a waiver which is pretty hard to get from the FAA. Once remote ID kicks in, it should be a little easier. Of course your fixed wing will need a Beacon then also.

    • @1Esteband
      @1Esteband Před rokem

      @@b4ugo yes that is what I was afraid of. It seems that to remain a hobbyist we would either commit more time and resources to become complaint, fly under 254g or stay under the radar. :(
