Hearing you say it's been 27 years really hurt my soul. Reminding me I'm getting older and older lol. As a huge fan of the original myself I'd love to see it modernized a bit and put on console. Preferably Nintendo switch. But then again I might get it on ps5 too since it was originally a ps game
Almost 30 years, one of the most revolutionary games in the rpg genre, and very little was done with it. Even though Fire Emblem, that is even older, is still alive. Unfortunately S-E never had a vision of what to do with this game. It should have gained many sequels (not story continuations though, because the original story is ok the way it was done) that just follow the same storytelling vibe instead of the childish FFTA games, that even had a short life. With that direction i believe a FFT franchise could have been fairly successful. Like, if FE is alive and those games have worse stories, then FFT sequels would have good chances.

I don't even really want a remake/remaster per say of Tactics, what I want is a port of the PSP version on PC with all of it's additions like new items, new characters, jobs and of course multiplayer fully intact, while also fixing the animation speed slowdown that plagued the PSP release. (it was extremely easy to fix even back on the PSP with an unofficial patch)
An FFT 2 could be cool too, but man do I want that PSP version on Steam. :D
Favorite game of all time, I will never believe it's coming until launch. We've been tricked so many times. I've played this on the PS1, beat it multiple times on the JPN and Eng version on the PSP. And I was hospitalized about a week ago for four days, where I got like 70% through the game on the phone. There is no game better in history in my eyes. Also, even posted CZcams gameplay as a kid (15ish years ago) where I edited and played FFTA playing as Llednar Twem getting like 100k+ views with some of my gameplay. And that was years and years ago.

I feel like it should be a whole new game, hopefully Unicorn Overlord has proven that there is still an interest in more stylized 2D graphics and they go that route
True, that can work. But because of its characteristics, that are very different from Unicorn Overlord, i believe a modern FFT can work better in 3d as long as it's a well done cartoony art style. If the project is well funded and Matsuno works on it, his perfectionism can be trusted to get the 3d art style right in the end.
The thing is that these "Tactics" games (including the handheld versions and Tactics Ogre games) have complex terrains, objects, obstacles, elevations, slopes, bridges that sometimes you can walk under, etc... So to me it would be nice if a modern Tactics game offers more camera view options than in FFT. And that is naturally better to do with 3d graphics. Even in the original the map rotations with the 2d sprites look clunky.
And another factor is that the original FFT has bad looking maps, that would need to look much better in a modern product, and even so those ugly trees and other obstacles are bothersome blocking the view at times. So an advantage of 3d in this case is that it would be possible to use more elaborated objects, using different sizes and all, with less concerns about blocking the view since adding more 3d viewing options will solve any of those problems. That what makes me inclined to 3d.
Hopefully they keep it in Ivalice. Love that world
Me too. It's a shame the world of ivalice was used only for the games that sold the less. It's not because it was bad but every game set in ivalice was either quite a departure or more niche.
What to fix: just flesh out all the characters more. Add more side stories. Make side quests full on interactive stories. MORE JOBS! (What exists is awesome, but why stop there? You guys are brilliant, show us more of your imaginations ❤.) Give us Balabanes' whole back story and make it interactive. Make the "knight classes" promotable through like advanced jobs or something. I e. Eventually make it possible to attain 'heavenly knight'like Balbanes. "...having achieved the highest rank of heaven[ly] knight..."
Gove the entire game a multiplayer option/difficulty.

This game was my childhood. The crux of my entire imaginative foundation was built around this, My first PS1 game.
Vandal Hearts would also be a great tactical tpg to remake or continue the series

Just give me a steady diet of tactical RPGs. FF Tactics Advanced is to this day one of my favorite tactics games.
They should either adopt an ff6 inspired world or do something completely new. The emphasis has to be on story quality to keep true to the IP. FFT is one of my all time favorite games. I would love to see it carried on.

I really hope it is a brand-new game. I recently played mostly through Final Fantasy Tactics it was definitely fun but a new story, classes and mechanics would be amazing.
Final Fantasy 10 Tactics would be my favorite, would be great using the Aeon's on the battlefield!
A legit Final Fantasy Tactics 2 would be amazing. It would be interesting to see a Tactics that's set in a world other than Ivalice.

The creator, Yoshi P, is interested in doing a remake he said, but that doesn’t guarantee it happening
He also said he was interested in making a single player FF and then XVI got announced awhile after that.
This is indeed fascinating. I’m glad how they’re branching out the series so we’re getting different types of FF games.
A new FFT game, or remake of the old ones: I'm all for it, as I didn't get to experience them in the olden days due to different reasons. But I played them in the last 10 years or so, and so I do not feel the "hunger", or need for them, I mean we got Triangle strategy, which I consider the spiritual successor to the FFT of PS1; and also there is God Wars, Mercenaries saga, and the best of them Fell Seal: The Arbiters Mark; and there is a ton of other indie titles if one needs his/hers/it's fix.
Ok but all those are imitations. It truly looks bad that FFT itself is abandoned, because it totally could have become an active and successful franchise if the company had a good vision of what to do with it. It is one of the most revolutionary titles of rpg history (though i'm aware the true revolution came from Tactics Ogre), and that built a gameplay that still holds up perfectly well today (unlike most regular turn based rpgs of the 90s, i must say).
Like, Fire Emblem is from 1990 and it is the only classic srpg/trpg franchise that lasted... i dont know why that couldnt also have happened to FFT. Just like FE's success shows, this srpg gameplay (i.e the genre gameplay style) has a longevity in a very different level than regular turn based rpgs and can guarantee infinite sequels as long as the story, gameplay and the chars are well done. It doesnt even need to be exceptional like FFT and TO... since FE games dont have the excellence level of FFT but they still sell well and keep the franchise going. The FFT sequels just needed not to drop the ball too bad.
In the ideal timeline in history, Square heavily invested in "real" sequels to FFT (not watered down releases like FFTA), that felt the same as the original FFT but just were totally different stories just like average rpg sequels. And then FE and FFT became fierce rival srpg franchises.

Before any new games, Final Fantasy Tactics should get a remaster on consoles and PC. After that a FFT2 with HD-2D graphics would be fantastic.
Whether it ends up being a remaster of the original, a new game set in Ivalice, set in the world of another FF or something totally new, I am absolutely here for it
8:11-8:30 yeah, me. I currently have 4 different files for the mobile version of the game. 1 is my main regular file, the 2nd is a "MR4M" challenge (you're only allowed to use monsters in your party once you reach Dorter Trade City.), 3 is my Dark Knight SCC (Single Class Challenge), and my fourth file is the "Final Fantasy V Job Feista Challenge" (Were like in FFV, you had to choose jobs but they were restricted to certain chapters, so stuff like Dancer wasn't available to use until chapter 4. I pulled Squire (chapter 1), Knight (chapter 1), Summoner (Chapter 2), Mediator (chapter 3) and Dancer (chapter 4). I'm currently on the castle battle with Gaff, were Ramza is separated from the other 4 memebers outside the castle.
Knowing Squeenix, I can scarcely imagine how badly a remake or sequel to FFT will be messed up.

I think they should leave well enough alone and make a new Tactics style game with a new story/world/characters.
I suppose they can remaster Tactics for modern platforms besides the mobile one, so people that want to play it legally can do so, but is there interest in that? They could just port the mobile one and add more controller support/mouse support and put it on Steam that way. Dunno why they haven’t done that, at least
With Yasumi Matsuno probably coming back to helm or at least paid consult on the FFT Remaster, since Unicorn Overlord is pretty much guaranteed to hit a million copies by Q4 of this year and get the Squeenix moneybags' 👀👀👀 poppin' out enough for it, I REALLY hope they get him on board at LEAST as a writer, even if he's not the director or producer or anything, on the new FFT mainline entry. PLEASE Squeenix, we need this!
Yeah to me his presence is absolutely vital. Maybe that isnt vital for a remaster, but it is for either a "serious" remake of FFT or a brand new game. The presence of the original composer would be great too, even if he isnt the main composer.
FFT is best unbalanced when a deep character/party customization. I think YoshiP will make the game too simplified and balanced.
Calm down, you are already making up a story in your head that Yoshi P will make a new FFT. And about balance, well... doesnt the work on the updated versions of FFT and TO show that even Matsuno himself is concerned (even a little bit) with making a new version looking more balanced than the original? They might not be balanced at all, but i just mean the makers dont just leave things like the original version. That would even make their work easier and faster. No, they care about making some changes for the sake of better balance.
I would love to See either a Remaster of Tactics, or a Tactics "Version" of Any/All of FF1-12

It's been time for a new FFT since the 00s after the handheld games. Like, there was no reason to abandon the entire concept just because FFTA, that have a totally different style, didnt work well enough. Simply make a brand new game using a different style from FFTA. I will never accept that decision and only understand it in the sense that SE made a lot of other questionable decisions in the 00s.

Yeah I heard about the leak a few years ago so...OMG, is it really true? Are we actually going to get more TT tactics? FFT (PS1 version) is my fav all time game. If SE does this, I will actually pre order it if they make it how you descibed it here: 4:17. lol I not only ever pre-order games these days, I usually wait for sales to buy anything. I'd be happy with a remake but a NEW game...WOW. But... Make it, and make it good SE, and I'll give you my money. haha This is great news David, thanks for sharing!

Also I absolutely love Triangle Stratergy! I preferred that over Octopath Traveller, although that was fun too. If they make a new Tactics game in a similar way to Triangle Stratergy, then that would be amazing!
Its glaring how there isn't ff tactic series up to 20 already lol. Game is genre defining but square enix doesn't care about that fact apparently.
It's one of the most influential games in the rpg genre, and it actually was successful at the time, even surprisingly for a game with its kind of storytelling and gameplay. But i believe Square was too much into mainline FF, because of the FF7 phenomenon, to pay attention to FFT and it's potential to dominate an entire genre. And if you think about it, FFT in the 90s was in advantage in the commercial sense, first of all because of the power of the "FF" name and the fact that Fire Emblem was denied to the western world before the GBA era. So as soon as FE was localized it made a huge impact in the western rpg culture and its success was vital to create a big demand in the srpg industry in the 00s. Square missed the chance of developing a real srpg rival franchise to FE, to explore that interesting market opened by FE. Like, if FE is still here then i cannot believe and accept that FFT couldnt have been a long running franchise. Most franchises have different stories anyways, including FE. It doesnt need to be a sequel of the actual FFT story (and it better not be).

@@carlosaugusto9821 there isn't much customization with main line ff games compared to tactics. And that is why its such a huge miss for them and for us fans. And yes, i didn't mean continuation of ramza story.

This is epic! Ya know, with all the modern gen ports I'd also atop of this overdue beauty like to see a port of FF Tactics Advance and TA2 to go with it.
I would love a new Final Fantasy Tactics experience. As nice as it would be to have a remaster or remake of one of the titles, I think it is time for a Final Fantasy Tactics. It is quite rare to see Square Enix produce spin-off series from the mainline Final Fantasy. The last spin-off I tried was World of Final Fantasy and I was impressed by its passion. Fully animated cutscenes (some of them hand-drawn anime style), a fun and interesting gameplay with minigames as well, and the end credits.... Animations too in the credits!? Did Square Enix have their A-team on the project? I hope to enjoy that same impression I had in their new Final Fantasy Tactics. One wish I'd like to request in the new Final Fantasy Tactics is minigames. Something fun and quirky that has been a staple in many JRPGs I've enjoyed.
WHATEVER happens... I just want it to be in the style of Octopath Travler/Star Ocean 2 Remake: there is just so much charm in pixel art.
Beyond excited for the news, just hoping they do it justice and remain faithful to the original. I think a prequel set in the same world would be pretty amazing. But a sequel I am also down for, or a FF9 inspired Tactics would be so incredible as well!
I would love a new FFT in the same universe of Ivalice. More insight on Ramza, Alma, and Delita. This series should have been episodic. Like a game of thrones. Phenomenal story.
If Yoshi-P is involved, whatever it is will definitely have its own flair, but I really hope for some kind of sequel to FFT. Nothing that messes with the original story which is already perfect on its own, but something that builds onto it or as a prequel to events leading up to FFT. The Advance games were okay, but the storylines were not remotely gripping in the way the War of the Lions was.
Ultimately, I would be okay with a PC remaster of War of the Lions as the only "modern" way to play is on your phone or through emulation. Neither option is preferrable to me.
I still want to play the old one. I wish they'd release it to Steam already.

Random idea I had: Dissidia Final Fantasy Tactics. They have all those character and monster models from Opera Omnia not doing anything right now, so why not make a tactics game with them?

I like the original but I want new content. And I know most people prefer the original but I feel that FFTA2 was by far the best in terms of content and combat in general. The sheer quantity of jobs, skills, items, races and maps was bananas. Plus I really liked the colourful art style and ivalice in general. It's good to have a drama based tactical but having some cute and colourful ones would be nice too.
Not sure what the status of this is given the cutbacks to games that were in development that Square announced last week.
An FF9 sequel in tactics form would be interesting, but I like that the tactics games have all been set in the Ivalice universe so I'd prefer a Tactics 2 or Tactics Advance 3...something like that.
Put the same Tactics Ogre Reborn team on the FFT Remaster and it'll be amazing!
This is my second fav rpg all time. But I honestly do not know what u could do. It still looks and plays amazing today. The art style is just timeless. I would pre order this the second I could. Berserk frogs attacking stone enemies to scam JP oh I can’t wait.
the 2 games that need a remake or total remaster upgrade is FFTactics and Fallout New Vegas. Those are my top 2. Honorable mention Dragon Age Origins

Man, so I was digging through my physical video game OST collection recently.
I totally forgot I even had them, but I found my copies of the Racing Lagoon and Baroque OSTs, and it reminded me that I had intended long ago to see if someone had put out translation patches for them.
Well, someone did. Patches exist for both.
Racing Lagoon might be the only street racing JRPG hybrid in existence, and it was one of Square's weirder experiments back in the heady days of the PS1.
Maybe they'll see fit to reexamine it.
Anyway, just something cool that happened.

I LOVE Final Fantasy Tactics! imo the best strategy game! i have fond memories playing that game w/my friend back in late 90s. i even replayed it on PSP when they released a remaster. i will buy it again on switch if they remake it. i also would love a proper sequel as well

Pleaaase I would love it so much if they did another Tactics game! I've replayed it so many times & I would happily buy it! I'm so excited to see Yoshi-P is considering something. I think it's also a good call to not try and make 16 the blueprint for another tactics games. FFT was its own thing for sure, definitely final fantasy but also really different
I couldn't agree more! I would like to see this trend of returning to and appreciating just gorgeous sprite work return to gaming on a wider scale. I would like to see Fire Emblem and Pokemon return to 2D sprites... What a pipe dream..

FF Tactics was my favorite RPG of all time. I even ranked it better than FF7. I really hope it’s a stand along sequel.. If they make a sequel to the original PS1 tactics you best believe I’ll buy two collectors edition. One to open and one to play.

FFTA2 is still one of my favorite tactical RPG of all time. I'm very interested to where the series could go next.
I just want the original to release on modern platforms and Steam. It doesn't even need to be remastered, just port the PSP version over and I'd buy it in a heartbeat. But I would LOVE a new game too! Especially one helmed by Yoshi-P.
EDIT: Oh and just to touch on the FF9 stuff being in FF14, because I know David doesn't play that game: The pre-order bonuses are FF9 themed, and Yoshi-P did tweet out that there is a reason for that, but that reason is likely that the big raid for this expansion is going to be FF9 themed not necessarily because it is a promotion for some remake. That's usually how the pre-order bonuses work.
Although, that said, they could be making the raid series FF9 themed to promote an FF9 remake.
Personally I'd like a FF7 tactics seeing as cloud was in the original I think it would be perfect.
You can't just have a new fft games...WE NEED AN AMAZING SOUNDTRACK LIKE FFT AS WELL!
As much as I really want a Tactics Remaster and/or Remake it wouldn't surprise me if they drop the major bombshell that it'll be a Mobile only release.
That's not impossible... but there are fair chances that a new game is made for consoles (and pc) in response to the rpg/srpg fan interest in FFT. Like, not many games in this whole genre managed to achieve a status of being matched with the best games in the FF franchise, so if the new game is revealed to look like the original (and not the childish style of FFTA) i believe it will look like a more guaranteed project to do well in consoles.
I’m leaning toward it most likely being a remaster but would love a tactical prequel to FF6 revolving around the war of the Magi or rise of the Empire.
A remake is also fairly likely because FFT is a big game, one of those legends of the 90s. So it's more guaranteed to do well unlike Tactics Ogre, and could probably get the necessary budget for a good quality remake.
If it ended up being a Remake of FF6, FF6 Tactics i think my heart would explode.
