I like the fact that the music you hear in the game is from the protagonist’s head!
The boundless power of undiagnosed schizophrenia
I also do that at times especially with songs I have repeatedly listened to oblivion. It somehow helps to alleviate boredom.
Bros like kasuga ichiban lol
It took inspiration off of Tabletop games. That's why the trailer menus had the characters posing in grid like boxes when selected. The name you choose at the beginning is not the "travelling boy's" name.
Conspiracy that could crack a pot is that since it asks how limiting is fantasy. Either reverse isekai at the end for their utopia, or since the name you choose is the guiding name... you're just DMing a crazy D&D game.
There is also no potential romance in the "bonds", apparently. Romance in general? Probably not.
I've never been the biggest fan of timed jrpgs, I like to to take my time and explore the various different areas. The last timed jrpgs I played were Atelier Rorona the Alchemist of Arland and FFXIII Lightnings Return. Whilst I enjoyed them, the time limits were the most frustrating part of them.
It just like persona DW, u have enough time to do everything
While it’s not an RPG per se, Zelda: Majora’s Mask suffered from similar issues
Yeah. I just really hope they aren‘t (too) punishing. I only play Persona on easy difficulty because of the time limit.
Agreed! The time aspect made me start to hate “Lightning Returns”.
Unbelievable that we get Metaphor ReFantazio and Unicorn Overlord in the same year.
I'm sorry, I can't get over that Barbarian shirt. 😂
7:00 Chances are the laundry is just dressed up random loot mechanic like in Persona.
My most hyped game of the year, I'm so excited!
It seems like the time limit is the replacement for the Persona daily calendar system. Instead of the constant daily advancement, moving the base around will push the calendar forward. So it seems like it’s only really a "time limit" in the same way Persona has a "time limit", which isn’t too bad IMO.
Hopefully the gameplay mix ups help with what persona series suffers from which is your encouraged to straight rush a dungeon in a day then do social links for a whole month straight. It's gets slightly tedious sometimes. Looks amazing though! Definitely excited!
I just got into Atlas games with P3 Reload and looking into the rest of the series is so overwhelming there are sooooooo many
Atlas are truly cooking there 2024 is generally insane
When you mentioned the passage of time and showed the world map, my first thought was “so sort of like Final Fantasy Tactics?” I mean, not as nice as a traditional world map but I loved Final Fantasy Tactics so I can’t hate on this too much. :)
Looking forward to the game. I got worried for a second when you mentioned the action-based combat (because I generally avoid action RPGs with parrying and waiting, like the Souls series) but I was relieved when you explained it was just a slightly expanded version of Persona 5/SMT V combat starts as opposed to something more like Persona 5 Strikers.
This game seems super amazing but the time limit aspect makes me cautious
Its just like persona. There will be plenty of time to do things!
It seems like it’s basically just like Persona, where you have a fixed amount of in-game "days" for activities. Persona 5 Royal was like a 120-hour game and gave you more than enough time to do everything despite technically having a time limit, so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
yeah this is literally that. The only difference is that it looks like a bunch of the social link stuff happens on the gauntlet runner. It otherwise gives the same freedoms as P5. You can either spend time doing social links, doing side quests or pursuing the main quest. It's the exact same formula so don't worry!
This is being directed by Katsura Hashino, who did Persona 4.
Looks unbelievable.
This looks incredible! Time to never tell anyone about it until I beat it twice
I'm super excited for this. It looks like there will be a ton of stuff to do. I grabbed the PS5 collector's edition as well! October can't get here fast enough!
Your tank top is legendary.
SO hyped for this game! Cant wait to play it.
I used to not be a fan of time constraints in games because they overwhelmed me but now that I'm older and have more time constraints in real life it's the opposite. It makes me feel like it's okay not to do absolutely everything in a game so I'm able to just chill out and play it.
The map they showed wasn't even quarter of the full thing. You can actually find the full map elsewhere. What we saw was just the capital city.
alot to absorb from that presentation was a bit of a drag in how they explained so i really appreciate you breaking it down so perfectly for us david!
I generally prefer a world map, and I like open world so long as it’s done well, but I’ll take the Persona/SMT folks doing what they know.
In already excited they’re doing fantasy so I won’t complain.
Time limits can be fine if they’re not too strenuous. Forcing me to make a tough choice every now and again rather than fall for my tendency to try and be a completionist (usually causing me to never actually finish the game at all) is kno bad thing.
I’m glad it’s not too far away
Going to buy this day one! ATLUS is on a role. More RPGs for us to indulge.
Great discussion! Definitely one I am keeping my eye on!
I'm impressed with what was shown so far, Definitely gonna be a day one purchase.
gosh all these mechanics are like a breath of fresh air. i feel it strikes a good overall balance. imo we needed something to outweigh the crafting/open world games that have saturated the market the past 5 years. im so looking forward to this :)
I love the time mechanic. They are certainly taking a page out of Persona and while people may feel they want to 100% things in a first go, I don't believe that is intended. Even in Persona, you need a perfectly planned itinerary that requires you knowing events coming before hand which you won't have unless you're reading a guide. It requires you to make a limited and meaningful choice, like a skill tree. To me meaningful choices are better, not a game where "you can do anything to defeat the enemy" basically means however I approach an enemy doesn't matter.
To even attempt to be better than Persona, we have to do something about that logo.
This game does indeed look amazing! I got so much more hyped than expected after seeing more info about it!
I’m intrigued. I was just thinking that their third pillar series needs to be medieval-like.
Woo! My birthday release this year.
sick. getting hype now.
The time travel system seems similar to Suikoden Tactics. I think I has fallen for this game already. THanks for the passionate and informative video David!
I’m also not jazzed about the time limit stuff. I already have to deal with those in real life!
I love the idea of being able to run and slash through weak enemies then go turn-based for stronger ones.
As for time limits... not sure, it depends how they do it. It sounds like they're there so you don't wander around doing other things, but if you have 7 days of time but only need 3 days of travel time, that says to me there might be secrets you can squeeze in within the time limit. That could be really cool, especially if the time limit is just on travel. Then 'time' is just an in-universe explanation for 'exploration resources' for each segment.
They are basically just giving you Ryuji's perk from the start, auto-kill low level fights, as a base mechanic.
Hi David! I wasn't very familiar with this game until you talked about it. I like how bonding works with archetypes. The combination of action and turn-based combat really intrigues me as well. Definitely adding this game to my ever-growing wish list. Thanks for another great video David and have a blessed day!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I need a link for the tank top David, please.
This looks so good though. Atlus doesn't miss.
Happy to see something that isnt based around a highschool coming from Atlus finally
Any comments on the contents of the collector edition? I might hold off thinking there will be a royal edition of the game.
14 days with traveling (seemingly) taking a day or 2 each time... Man... I REALLY dont know about that...
Yeah, if that's really how it works, this game will be a squandered opportunity.
I actually like the mechanic tbh. It adds a sense of realism to it and if there are different events and activities every day, I'm on board.
They also showed beds in the showcase, so maybe sleeping in them can move on to the next day automatically.
Damn i thought this game would have no bonding events 😭😭😭
3:03 damn right
I’m not sure about the Xbox exclusive on the Collector’s Edition. I ordered mine last night on GameStop for the PS5.
The UI looks incredible. Super stoked about the Job system. The timed aspect is a turn-off, but if it is similar to Persona 5, then it really isn't a big deal at all.
I'm looking forward to the actual release a year later with the complete edition like every other Persona game.
You sold this to me gameplay wise. I just hope it doesn't feel as teeny "anime" as P5.
Is blacklog anxiety a thing? I’m just not feeling this yet. I just discovered Atlus and NIS in January. So imagine how much is on my plate currently.
i havent heard too much about this one, looks interesting i will definitely have to add this to my backlog that never seems to go down! lol Thanks David!
I am an absolute Job System slut, so I was grinning ear to ear while watching that reveal yesterday 😆
It's one of my only guaranteed buys for this year alongside Unicorn Overlord and Visions of Mana 🙂
More dungeons but you have 14 days with travel taking two of these days in the footage. How does that work?
I'm assuming the time limits are going to feel a lot like persona like I never really ran out of time for anything there was always a very obvious optimal path but also plenty of ways to come out super far ahead without being optimal.
Most 100% Persona guides require future knowledge of events so it's not exactly "obvious". For example, you have to skip hanging out with a confidant because you get a free one a week later or it's your only choice for that day, so you're better off ranking up someone else or doing something else.
@@sor3999 yeah. But I'm not talking about 100%ing I'm just talking about how the timeline will probably not feel like a crunch in atelier and more like persona where you can finish pretty much everything solong as you're just not skipping days. Or lucking out by dreaming about the right person or whatever a 100% requires
Persona is heavily focused on spending time effectively (at least early game), but having travel between areas spend time could definitely be potentially aggravating.
This looks great...Persona set the bar high..5 Royal was peak...the summit...
I'm happy to c one other person likes that top I'm not alone at last lol 😍
Pretty much anything from Atlus is gold at this point. I only game on Switch so I'll be patiently waiting for news of the Switch 2 and just hope that this game is a launch day release list.
Hey, if they ever made a new FF Mystic Quest, I'm buying, don't knock it :).
Game looks amazing and after Trails into Daybreak this is about the only game I am super excited for the rest of the year.
I'm hoping it's a good balance between SMT and Persona.
This game looks amazing, but that limited time function when traversing sounds pretty annoying, as I like to explore within my JRPGs 😅
I seen the trailer was impressed and I'm super excited for the game!
Looks to be very fun. And more high magical fantastical setting would be a nice change of pace for Atlus. I love Persona, don't get me wrong, but I hope that this becomes a success, so Atlus can have a new IP to focus on.
❤
I think I’m taking pto for this game?
Wow this game looks so cool!
I watched the trailer like 10 times, this game will definitely be RPG of the year.
That showcase last night (11pm in the UK) was an absolute feast for the eyes! I'd love to play this but I can't justify buying a new console to do it. 😄
When will the "complete" version be released? Betting starts! 🔍
I think time limit is as same as Persona's.
Certainly too early to call it for awards and critical reception, but unless this game fumbles it with bugs/performance this is probably my Goty.
Can’t wait for this game not a fan of time limits at all. When I first played harvestella it really bothered me then I got used to it so hopefully the same will happen with this 😊
Most hyped game by most awesome Tuber! Yes.
I am beyond hyped! This and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2! On top of everything else releases this year!
I need this injected into my veins right now!!!
OOF the time thing might kill this game for me!
I was on board for this, until you mentioned the time limits. Ohhhh, no. I hate those. You mentioned Atelier, and yeah, that's a series that I have fun with, but the ones with time limits are so hard for me.
But everything else does look super fun. I really like that sword-surfing thing. That's unique.
looks really awesome ,go atlus
The archetypes are kinda like Personas then?
I wanna play this so bad day one, been waiting forever. But I always buy/play day one, and then they do a Royal Definitive Edition a year later that I end up not playing…
only if is not censored
Hope they have a PS4 physical version because no one has time for a new PS5
This is a weird comment. But if you read Tolkein or some other book on tape i could fall asleep to that s*** 7 nights a week. You have a good voice bro. I fall asleep to your stuff all the time. *not meant as an insult.
I do have a really long video. I think it’s like three hours long where it’s all of my reviews from 2023 that might work.
😊
Game looks insane so excited for something different by the way love shin megami tensei and persona game series the job system looks sick
Here's hoping the Collector's Edition becomes available again. Right now, Amazon shows neither version is available and I'd prefer to order it there instead of GameStop.
VGP the video games plus website from Canada is another option to preorder the collectors.
@@kuroinokamen Collector's Edition went active again on Amazon earlier today so I got what I wanted..
@@tekguru8Nice! Glad you got one at the place of your choosing.
I'm not a fan of the point-n-click travel or time limit thing, my guess is that Atlus is really trying to cash in the Persona cravers. And what kind of budget are these developers working with? Seems close to FF7 Rebirth levels. A lot more than what Bandai Namco pisses out to its game studios.
This seems very similar to persona, and your gripes aren't warranted based on this David. Persona has a time limit too and has a point and click world map, neither of these things bother me. Agreed that I don't want to clean in a rpg though 😅
I do not like time limits in RPGs, and honestly I don't think most people would disagree. I have no idea why devs keep putting those in their games, most of the time it just doesn't work.
Like for instance, the quests in Pathfinder Kingmaker had a time limit, and then for the second game Owlcat promptly removed time limits, because everyone hated them lol.
When will they learn.
Persona has time limits. How you spend your days is an attracting feature.
@@sor3999 Well from what little I've played of Persona, it's more of a day and night cycle in there, rather than hard time limits on individual things. Like in Kingmaker that I've mentioned each quest has it's own time limit, and if you run out of time you fail and the quest is gone. Problem is you don't know what the time limit will be untill you take the quest, and traveling around the map takes time, so you might fail a quest before you even get to it, if you have a few going and they are all in different parts on the map.
Im not a fan of the time limit
No relationships tho
Timed? I hope that doesn't ruin the game (it might).
I think you're being a bit pessimistic my dude.
I hope that's the case. I am really excited and don't want to see it held back by a time limit.
@@pokeytrev Same tbh
Only bunmer is 35th anniv Atlus history book and all time best soundtrack are digital only for NA collectors edition. Why Atlus?!
BETTER TNA PERSNONA>Q?
Game looks great, but I can’t stand the highly stylized UI’s. Persona 5 was a turn off for the same reason.
Visual design looks like literal garbage. It will age like milk.
ATLUS still stuck in PS3/Vita era of games..
This director will go out his way to put some type of waifu system in his games 🙄
ps and switch fans buy games at full price xbox paid atlus a lot to get this game first
This game does look really impressive ! (minus the time limit thing)
