  • De hele film is te zien op: www.viddler.com/explore/Morgan... Tussen 1984 en 1988 reed ik Peugeots van Nederland naar West-Afrika met passagiers. De auto's verkocht ik in Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, Niger en Mali.Een stuk van 1300 KM in de Sahara was geen weg. Daarvan zijn weer stukken grote vlakke zandzeeën. Daarvan hier een stukje film. Geniet van de muziek, Jean Michel Jarre, maakte al trance muziek eind 70er jaren.. De hele film in betere kwaliteit is te zien op: www.viddler.com/explore/Morgan...

    Peugeot 504 had oil based air filter that could just be cleaned and reused. Windscreen wiper system was also dustproof. I will always remember trip through Varmia with my friends. Halfway through my brother got into his 504 and thrown to me keys to his friend's VW Golf saying lets race back on sandy roads in the forest. He was just slowing down from time to time to feed us dust :D. Amazing. It was like racing on motorboats on the very narrow river...

    This car above all, despite the Mercedes W123 e-class, Land Rovers & Toyota Hilux / Land Cruiser, is the workhorse of the African continent. After 60 years of design, manufacture, & use they are still, today in 2023, more comfortable than any other car on the road today, which is saying something.

    Wat een prachtige film Alex! Ik heb echt zitten genieten van de prachtige beelden die jullie gemaakt hebben. Een soortgelijke reis staat wel op mijn wenslijstje, zeker zo door de Sahara heen. Heel gaaf! Ik ben nu 17 jaar oud en ben erg fan van de Peugeot 504, vandaar dat ik ook hier beland ben. We hebben er ook meerdere thuis. Zou deze reis ook graag willen maken met een 504, wat tegenwoordig als zonde wordt beschouwt, maar als ik deze beelden zie vind ik het meer dan waard!

    • @AlexSchaap
      @AlexSchaap  Před 5 lety

      The 2 liter is a GL, fine car! There is a lot to find out by a good ride about engine, gearbox, axels, shocks etc on a rough road. Bodywork needs a good inspection under doors and at attachment of shock absorbers, suspension (check base of the springs too) Try out everything like window lifters, rubbers, (under windshield in the corners) Watch the brake disks. Too much to check to write about. But best advise, bring a local mecanic with you who knows what to check for! Nice thing is that everything can be fixed. Good question is how many times the engine is overhauled if you an find out. A crankshaft can only be reajusted one or two times. But then, also that can be replaced. Good luck :)
