  • There are a lot of shooting tabs and glove options out there. Fred likes to keep things simple and lets you know how to properly size a shooting tab for yourself.

Fred Eichler is a man of personal achievement. His passion for bowhunting has taken him all over the world in pursuit of his next adventure. Fred truly believes that any animal with a bow is a trophy. His personal quest to complete the North American Super Slam with a recurve bow reflects that state of mind. In mid August of 2009 Fred harvested a cow Tule Elk to become the first to take all 29 North American big game animals with a recurve bow and complete the Super Slam. Fred has been fortunate enough to share his love and enthusiasm of the sport with fellow bowhunters across the country through his television shows and personal appearances. If you ever run across Fred in the woods or at your local bow shop you’ll be greeted with a big smile and friendly handshake. Bowhunting is more than a passion for him, it’s a way of life.

Awesome video. Thank you for your advice. I have a store bought tab that i don’t care to use due to its features but with what you just talked about, i’m going to modify it to work better for me.
I still prefer the glove we shall see. Thank you for the advice Fred.

I’ve use DIY ‘Shell Cordovan’ cut for 3 under for several decades. They only get better with use...soft, flexible, slicker than owl dooty on a wet cypress limb & provide excellent string feel. My BNL & I both consider them to be precious commodities and will become very anxious if we misplace them. No greater material IMHO. 👍🏻👍🏻

Honestly, been shooting/bow hunting since 1980 and have never even tried using a tab. But I discovered last week, coincidentally, 3Rivers Archery has a whole line of Eichler tabs for around 20 bucks!! I'll take the dark brown, split finger lefty tab please! Matches my Hoyt/Eichler Buffalo T-D nicely.

I made a pvc bow and some arrows to mess around with and I understand why you need tabs or gloves.. My 3 finger tips are swollen and tender after shooting about 20-30 times.. Lesson learned. Still had fun messing around and didnt do too bad for essentially my 1st time really shooting a bow and arrow. Not bad for a $15 setup for fun.
Can only imagine how much better itll be when i get some actual arrows in. Just order practice ones.

I would love to see you you do a comparison between both sets of limbs for the satori.

One year I got down to it and made about 10 or 20 tabs for myself, and a few others. I always say that when one makes the kind of simple projects most of us do, not a Boeing 777, you can usually nail the product on your second try. Some people say marriage is like that, others say it takes three. But with projects it takes the courage to be willing to be wrong, and the skill to make stuff fast enough one isn't discouraged. Anyway, after a few designs, I made some that I love, and will never need to buy a commercial one again. Lots of fun.

Don't be scared to break out the scissors... Target tabs in particular are designed to be trimmed, so they give you more material than you would normally need. If one doesn't trim them they won't be right.
