  • The shift in emphasis in Dhamma practice in the first centuries after the Buddha: from thought and imagination to direct experience and the systematic development of insight.
At the end: The world as we perceive it is only "in our body", as the Buddha said - and nowhere else. Today we would say: what we call the world is created by neurons in the brain. What is the "objective reality" remains a "rabbit hole." At the end is anatta (="Not-self") and Buddhist Insight explained from the neurological point of view.

Bhante, you just gave me more ideas and provocative statements to think about than I have been given since the first Dhamma talk I listened to 8 years ago. At that time, I began taking in as much material about the teachings of the Buddha as my poor old mind could absorb. And since that time, I have tried to take what I was learning and arrange it in some sort of framework, a structure on which I could place new information as I encountered it.
In the movie "Jaws", police chief Martin Brody gets his first good look at the huge, ferocious Great White Shark that he and his companions are hunting. Stunned, he goes back to the tiny cabin of the small boat they are on, and tells them, "You're going to need a bigger boat."
I'm going to need a bigger framework.
    Thank you.

Oh yes, very big framework where everything existing fits in and become its proper place - that was always my thought, I called it “the spiritual landscape” with “Mountain Analogue” (it’s rather a whole mountain range), with its plateaus, lowlands, ravines, volcanos, and abysses - on the other hand, many people do not need the whole ‘elephant’ to start serious practice.
