This piece and the interviewer seemed quite progressive on the transitioning matter. It wasn't treated like a spectacle.

The Pax Britannica trilogy is one of my favourite reads - Morris's authentic voice, and her unabashed romanticism for Britain's lost imperial adventures, comes shining through in a retelling of history that is at once educational, raffishly critical, shot through with melancholy, and often delightfully witty. These days, with history (particularly colonial history) under such constant attack, Pax Britannica is a must-read, and for me a constant presence on my bookshelf.

I read her trilogy of the British Empire. Her prose made me feel as if I were an eyewitness, living in the moment, no matter the year being discussed, from Jamaica to Egypt to India to Burma, from the coronation of Queen Victoria to the Suez Crisis. That is no small feat when writing history.
