Hi from Brisbane Australia. Call me a non purist even thou there a tuff box, you need to throw that torqueflite in the bin or in the corner of the shop and sneak a tr6060 in its place. I've done a few manual swaps in the past but if really want a top notch drivers car, manual is an absolute must. Believe me, with the handling that J has you won't be able to stay away from it. Absolutely the best money you can throw at it. Just giving you my helpful advice to put smiles on your dial... it did it 4 me. Lol
Set of heads intake and a cam to match and that old 440 will be able to push out 550HP & as much torque at around 2300 RPM! Mated to a 6 speed manual. The fuel consumption will then be justified!
Great video. I have a '74 MkIII project that I just can't decide whether to restore or sell... Its body is worse than yours though the motor is much better. Tough one...
John, thanks for reaching out. I also have a 74 in much the same way. Mechanically complete but the body has a little more work to do. I will likely sell it once I finish with this. The heads have been sent out so hopefully the engine will be as good as new once I find someone to do the block.
I know this was a while ago, but in order to rebuild this engine right, you would have to know what gear ratio you would have in this car, because that would affect your compression ratio and cam choice.
most of the susspension and brakes are early jaguar and steering rack is from xj6/12 from 1970 - 76 email me if you need more crossover parts yargnitram@icloud.com
Same age as me. Lovely car. Big old lump
Oh what luvly cars you've got, I look around your garage and my mouth waters. Good luck mate
with this restoration
Thank you. I'm excited about it. It's been sitting too long
2:23 The sill covers are stainless steel not chrome.

Thanks,, that's something I'd be interested in learning more about. Do you know of any write up? Where to source parts etc? Thanks

You can get the engine and transmission out as one unit.
I could not see how given the length of that trans. But I'll take your word for it
4:48 The cylinder heads are probably 906s. if you can get 456s they are much the same but ready for unleaded.
Thank you. I'll check the heads.

Thought they were all 2.88-1
Martin Robey do all the panels.
Thanks, yep! I remember them from when I had my E-type
Put in the LS engine get rid of that 6.2 heavy lump.
I'll still with the 440, but may go with fuel injection
Or give give it more horsepower, I have a 440 that makes 850HP

Gary, thanks for the lead. I saw that the brake reservoir and master cylinder looked familiar to my 75 XJ12C. I'll be in touch. Best wishes
PS,the only difference between jag rack and jensen is the power valve the xj6/12 one is too light ,this rack also fits the aston martin DBs6
