I'm a new/old fan. I got into the hip last year, after gords death... I grew up with this band, but didn't know who they were until last year. I didn't know this was a newish song, and thought it was old actually. this might be one of my favourite songs by the hip actually.
Such an amazing band and single. I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that Gord isn't with us anymore.

That's really what I think about too. Living in the States, I don't here much about them. I was shocked to see the headline reach msn.com though. But yes....after his wife's cancer and now this, wow it takes a lot of support and strength. I can't even imagine.

I cannot think of a single band in the history of modern rock 'n roll music that can produce this quality of output after more than 30 years in the business. Thank you Gord and the boys for all the satisfaction you continue to provide to all of your fans!

Ahh jeez. What brutal news. I used to lived in Toronto's Riverdale neighborhood, not far from Gord's home. I'd see him around occasionally; he was well known amongst the neighborhood's homeless for giving away fifty and hundred-dollar bills. By all accounts, a very cool man. Fight hard, Gord-- you have the love of all Canadians.

I'm from Philly, met my fiance whos from saskatoon. He introduced me this band as THE Canadian band. I can totally see why.. I think I love them more than he does :) One day, I was scrolling through my phone and my eyes almost left my face.. Saskadelphia album dropped. I was so proud that they chose to name an album after Philly, and combine it with the city my fiance is from. We're getting married soon.. this band is amazing

FFS 2016, stop taking our musicians. Seriously though, I couldn't believe this when I heard this morning. I haven't seen The Hip live, but I'm resolved to be at 1 of their shows, or Ill regret it for the rest of my life. What really hits close to home is my dad died of the same thing 11 years ago.
You really need to try. You've really not even fully understood till you see them play.
I find there is normally only one good track on every fifa soundtrack, if that.
I found out about the hip through his sickness fell in love with their music and paid an arm and leg to get tickets to see them. They were absolutely amazing, especially when they played wheat kings.

This has been a tragic year for the music industry...... Bowie, Prince and now Gord fighting...... I will hope the will of their fans will become some kind of mysterious miracle the cancer just quietly goes away...... and Gord will just be like he was yesterday...... It is not fair a beautiful person so talented is allowed to go through this, but we're all here for Gord and the whole band. Much love, light and Namaste .......
Don't forget Glenn Frey of the Eagles as well. 2016 has been cruel and horrible to our music legends who inspire us and love. I saw the Hip just this last October in Houston Texas. I will cherish that memory forever. At this point I suggest we all keep praying for Gord. The power of prayer is amazing. Miracles do happen.....we just have to believe.

The Best album the band has had in years. I can't believe how good MMP is. Very Saddening though. I almost couldn't play the rest of the album after Track 1, Man. That song made me emotional.

Wow, knowing this was written after he'd received the news really has a David Bowie's Lazarus feel to it.
But the album was written and recorded before Downie knew of his illness, the band says. The singer has since, however, found solace in returning to the studio himself.
Apparently he was thinking of his wife's breast cancer diagnosis. But the connection between the human mind and his own diagnosis seems a bit prescient(sp?) My husband has brain cancer in the same area- the temporal lobe. Let's hope Gord hangs onto his speech and memory so he can get some pleasure out of the tour.
Ah, the earliest articles I'd seen on the matter, said with his diagnosis in December, that the album was partly recorded at the time with the release in mid-June.
