[FULL] Chan Chun Sing addresses backlash, feedback on Israel-Hamas CCE lesson

  • The Ministry of Education’s Character and Citizenship Education (CCE) lesson on the Israel-Hamas conflict will be better scoped for students of different age groups, while teachers will get additional support in delivering the lesson, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing said on March 4. READ MORE: str.sg/K7Bx
Speaking during the debate on his ministry’s budget, Mr Chan reiterated that CCE is an integral part of the education provided to Singapore students, given the difficulty of building a national identity when its multiracial and multi-religious society is subject to civilisational and religious forces.

"... What is our responsibility as educators? We asked ourselves the toughest two questions:
    If not us, who?
    If not now, when?
I draw comfort and confidence from their conviction. Indeed, it is our duty to guide the next generation well. Help them develop good character and values, and build a sound foundation for them to thrive in the future." 👍👏👏

Sometimes I wish CCS didn't have to speak in formal language. And he could speak candidly like he did during the audio leak. It's where I gained respect for him. Because he spoke candidly I knew it wasn't a prepared speech. I knew he spoke through what he himself clearly reasoned. I never respected him as a leader before. I respected him then as I do respect him now.
And I think Singaporeans would respect CCS more if in parliament he wasn't fettered by language and he could freely speak the language of Singapore.

What the MOE is doing is similar to younger students learning the mathematical pi, "π".

Minister has taken great pain to explain from a neutral position and it was never easy to do it. If the explanation is not skillful and clear enough it will give the wrong impression MOE is taking sides between Israel-Hamas conflict. People only know how to make bias accusation and prejudice instead of trying to do more research to find out the truth.

You could argue that it all began anthropologically over 100K years ago when humanity began migrating from Sub Saharan Africa, we have to remember we are ALL beautiful humans, all of us need access to the necessities of life else we suffer unimaginably.
Today more than at any time in history we have ameliorated the principle underlying cause for aberrant behavior, scarcity, thanks to our science & technology.
We can be especially optimistic for the future with the advent of AI directed humanoid robotic systems that will, when used for human, animal & environment concern further bring about even greater abundance.
