I have been asked a few times to talk about the cost of living in Thailand. There is a lot to talk about and everyone’s needs are different but I did my best and put this video together for you all. If you want more information I will be very happy to find that for you. On a side note I live very simply and can talk about what I do and where I shop etc. Thank you again for watching my channel.

I ran into you channel earlier, due to the water filter system you build.
And since I'm a little curious, I looked into some other videos for yours :)
And for someone who live in a small village, with no "western" luxuries, I find your approach to life in Thailand very refreshing, compared to other youtuber's :)
You differently earned another subscriber :)
    Thanks for sharing!

Good morning to you Jeff, Thank you for watching and I am glad you enjoyed. You said you do not normally watch videos like this and I do not really like to making them, lol. I look at life in a very simple way so I find this information a little boring but I had to learn it for me to travel. So when many asked for the info I said okay and did it. I hope you can find your Paradise even if for a few minutes a day. Buckets of blessing to you and best wishes.

Great video and thank you for encouraging my wife and myself to take it to the next level in life, to take the risk and commit to the adventure. I am 72 years old my wife is 65 years old and your videos are
Inspiration for us to continue an adventurous lifestyle. We've traveled to 35 countries and by seeing how you take on the challenges has given us the courage to do things that we have not felt comfortable doing. The bottom line we are getting out of the comfort zone. What advice would you give us? You're doing it and thank you for what you're doing it is appreciated all.Jerry & Lori

Good morning Jerry and Lori, If i were you guys I would first have a smoothie every morning. We all as we get older are in need more minerals. This will help you and your health. So as you travel you will feel strong enough to enjoy. Also you know your limits so when planning think about that. I am only 61 but I think about this when I travel because the heat can knock you side ways. I feel you would enjoy Thailand because the Thai people respect the elders so you have no fears here and if thy can. Best my friends

But ended up viewing lots of other comments that said, " they'd like to meet you, etc." I guess, when you view a few of these vlogs, you get to feel like you know someone. I spend about $10 a day in Cambodia, or around $300 a month. Eating out with the locals is cheaper, but I have to be careful that they don't use MSG. The stuff kills me and I know they use it in Thailand in everything too. Electricity is more here too I think. I pay 19 cents per KWH. I looked at a website that compared cost of living and Cambodia and Thailand were pretty close. Food can vary a lot like you said, I lived a few years in Thailand too and if you want to eat Thai style $5 a day can be lots of good food. I spend more because I spoil myself with some western food. Another expense you didn't mention was Health Insurance, which can be one of your big expenses. Or do you even have it? Myself I've been here 15 years and had major surgery and long stays in the hospital and only spent $8500. Where Health Insurance is about $3000 a year, maybe you can get better cheaper? But that is for Top coverage with E-vac to any hospital and your covered Worldwide but not the USA.

Hi Kevin...useful video, no need to be embarrassed! 😱. I've only recently started watching your channel, but I'm enjoying them, thanks.
    1. Can you clarify where about you are? (Might have been on an earlier video, but missed )
    2. I don't think you gave an indication of cost for where you are now? Presumably you're on a long lease?
    3. What do you do for medical protection? Have you medical insurance, or are you a believer in having a medical 'mot' to give you advance warning of problems, then dash back to the UK?
    4. You mentioned having a phone to ring the UK.....can't u use Skype for that?
    5. I've just returned from a month trip to see if Thailand is for me, to retire to, and it certainly was. ( I was mostly in Chiang Mai/Rai.) I took a 600bht phone package which was great. It did make me wonder why so many people spent their time in cafés, using the wi-fi, spending 100bht a time for coffees! It certainly didn't seem to be for social reasons, as the majority were on their own!

Medical. When I lived in Chiang Rai and now in Roi Et Provence there are very well appointed Western A grade hospitals that are reasonably cheap; each with their own out patient section. (delivery of our daughter & 3 days in private suit B50,000. My older daughter & her cousin motor bike accident ER B10,00 for both. 4 x midnight dashes (the handbrake was well Off each time) when my baby had a fever - about B400 each time. All very prompt and effective care.) The driving time was 20 to 50 minutes for the same respective Km distance. Waiting time is normally less than 20 minutes. Most doctors can speak English (they have to be able to read MIMS). Bring your medical history with you.
The Government District Hospitals are more basic, busy, but you can pay a small 'express service charge' for some treatments.
Every village has a Medical clinic with nurses, an infant welfare clinic and a visiting national service doctor (repaying his medical training fees). They can dress major farm injury wounds prior to evacuation to a hospital. Normally very good service.
Most towns have local Doctor clinics, this is where you buy prescription medication. There are also town pharmacies that sell medical aids, first aid supplies, medications (some are prescription grade in the west) & some herbal remedies. Most pharmacists can read English and give the "1 minute" advice very efficiently.
Ambulance. Yes most hospitals have an ambulance and do offer insurance cover. I maintain our Isuzu pickup as our family "get to hospital vehicle". I retrained my Thai wife to drive correctly to a very high western standard and she can now do it safely at speed if required.
Me - 67. I am in the final quarter of my life and take a pragmatic approach if I have a heart attack or stroke my wife has been instructed to let me die. Talked to the local Buddhist Monk about my cremation. My Thai wife has an alternate care plan; wonderful delicious and healthy meals on a 14 day plan, a loving and stress free environment with the plan to keep me going until at least 85. I have 2 Thai daughters 19 & 7 and my plan is to attend each of their weddings by using my wife's loving care plan.
Thai drivers seem to drive as though they wish to que-jump into the next reincarnation - so prepare accordingly.
i currently do not have health insurance, and saving of B210,000 to date. Put some aside and live healthy & stress free.
So your full -contact tactical bowls and a few after match drinks as you relive your game maybe a very high risk lifestyle.
Both Kevin and I each live the low stress / max happiness lifestyle in a small rural village.
Kind regards from Greg in Roi Et.

Hi Kevin, greetings from rural central Thailand.
Driving license. I did the full Licence Test in Chiang Rai. I was a computer-based test with four language options (Thai / English / German / Japanese), The Response test and the driving test. The road laws are the same as western countries.
Food. Like you, my family shop at the local markets for very fresh 8 - 24 hours from harvest to market stall (14 days in a Western supermarket). My wife buys to avoid the the 'Farang Price' rip off. In our rural village there are traveling hawkers, like the 1950 in the West, a local community shop and Saturday morning farmer's market, Our District has a large market every day and a street market on Saturday 12:00 to 20:00. A western hospital is 50 km away (I did the emergency dash in 40 minutes with my sick 7 year old daughter) and western supermarkets / department store / home hardware & builder supplies in the Provincial capital.
Internet. 740 Baht for 3BB cable Internet with WIFI Router (Cost ?), installed free!
House and Land. (Owned by my wife) 3,000,000 Baht, in Mai Sai district We build a western home, with separate kitchen and a carport / laundry / my workshop / Guest Apartment / shower room. Has a beautiful view of Doi Tung and 'The Sleeping Lady'.
This home is for sale as we moved to look after my wife's aged parents.
Lifestyle. I live my family-life simply like you, I am the only westerner / 'Farang' in our rice farm village. Life is stress free and very happy. I am required by Thai law to have an income of 65,000 Baht per month. Debt & Hassle free.
Social interaction. When I first came to the village 8 years ago about 30 ladies of the villge came to meet me. The first question the ladies ask my wife "Does he beat you?" - No. He is kind and generous "has a good heart'. I asked my lady why she would want a man 20 years older. "You are kind. You will not desert me for another woman. You have a good heart You give me good massages" Her promise to me was, "I will love you and care for you every day of your life and when you die I will put you in the burner (Traditional Thai cremation) and I will worship your bones (in the living room shrine) every day of my life. Now that is a good deal.
Merry Christmas & Kind regards from Greg in rural Thailand

I worked 37 years as chief engineer in the merchant marines and I have destroyed my bone joints , full of arthritis , I get around pretty good but I require a sufficient amount of opioid pain medicine which is become almost impossible to get because of young punk kids over dosing on it and the government is cracking down on the sales of it. Hi Carol, Rent; you can pay 4500 baht for a small nice room with AC but you can rent a home in a village for 5000 baht. Around the tourist areas the price will go up a lot.
Food: I can go food shopping and spend about 1500 baht to fill be fridge and extra things for the bathroom etc. You can also eat out for about 150 baht per day. So food is not a big problem to worry about.
