    All I’m missing is the smell of the diesels & the steam smoke along with the taste of the dust. Wonderfull!! ❤️❤️ My late father would have adored this video, such memories

    have now been to gdsf for a number of years, great day out, have now collected 84 scale models of Pickford trucks, and have built from scratch scammell constructor puc 475 and a scammell explorer both in 12th scale, after seeing restored Pickford's trucks at the show.

    Brings back memories of standing in the primary school playground in the mid 60s and watching in awe as the Pickford lorries came along the A12 taking huge loads to the Sizewell power station that was being built!

    Loved this video. I could hear the Lister engine at the rear of the Pickford's low boy . I can only assume it was running hydraulics for the steering etc. Nice video.👍

    Nowadays just one Volvo FH 750 would pull that , shows how things have moved on..

    • @ivanolsen8596
      @ivanolsen8596 Před 6 lety +1

      And the Fodens will still be pulling the trailer long after the Vovo has gasped its last.
      Things are no longer made to last, planned obselescence is more profitable.

      Heavy haulage is not so much about power, but more so about traction and ballast.

    • @Jimmy-sh9fj
      @Jimmy-sh9fj Před 6 lety

      It's about the torque the power the traction

    • @mikehoughton3865
      @mikehoughton3865 Před 6 lety

      What would the power unit in the Foden have been? Gardner perhaps?

    • @wharris302
      @wharris302 Před 6 lety

      Mike Houghton a very underpowered unit probbaly can't pass 20mph down a hill as it's geared so short just one pull like 20kg lol

      martin Jeffery: You are living in the past. Empire days are behind her, Leaving the EU will not bring back those days. But who cares, once the former empire can have blue passports again its irrelevant that its going backwards to being a 3rd World country ha ha , foolish little Englanders . . .

      martin Jeffery: Let me stop you right there. I used to live in that cesspit that you call "great" Britain. Still visit it often enough so that I can use the NHS for free. I was smart though. I went in, got as much as I could, lived in a council flat for a bit, bought 2 houses eventually and moved back to the Tropics. Oh, btw, my 2 houses are all rented out to old and poor ignorans like you, funding my expensive hobbies, traveling and life in the sun lol
