Thanks a lot, Brooke. I'm so grateful for this channel. It's like every week I learn a helpful lesson from this channel.
I'm so lucky, too because I did have plan for this weekend is filling out my Common App. Thanks so much
You're welcome, Jessica!!
Brooke, you are a life saver!
Finally, I have been waiting for you to make this video for so long!
class of 2021 lets get this breadddddddddddddddddddddddddd dead on the inside no dont even have an SAT lmaoo
the universities i'm applying to are test optional but my mom is forcing me to take the one in september ;0 i'm so nervous
ayy same ded here too good luck with your applications :)
LOLLL
Hi, Scott :)
@@hiru2065 didn't even get into my top schools lets goooooooo
This is exactly the type of video I need right now!
Mam, would you kindly make a video on " why x college" essays ? they are annoying and time-consuming.
That's SO MUCH true. I hate these questions esp when I gotta apply to tens of them when deadline is around
They require you to do research on those colleges, but if you haven't done a lot of research on them then you probably shouldn't be applying.
In mine I wrote about all the stuff I would participate in that the campus offers (certain clubs, the art studio, the intramural sports, etc), things about the campus I liked (i.e. one campus has an amazing biking infrastructure and I love bike commuting), and what I know about their program (i.e. they have one of the most prestigious food science programs in the US) I also "slipped in" that my dad had gone there. Haven't heard back yet but I think these are generally good content ideas
@@beccag2758 just following up, did you get in?
@@raheemglynn953 yes!
Thank you for the video, Brooke! I have a question- what if you're doing the IB program? How do you fill in the common application in that case, because there is no such concept as "Honors" there?
Class of 2022 anybody?
:( too fast man
Hi! Love this channel! Could you do a video on how to fill out the Coalition application?
It's a shame this channel doesn't have at least 300k subscribers...
Super informative video! Would you recommend placing a self-founded non-profit organization in additional information? It is my most involved extracurricular and a component that will come into play in my essays. Thank you :)
This website is great and I am in eighth grade only. I learned so much and thank you!
Any 2022 applicants here
Great easy and helpful video. Thank you
This was so HELPFUL!!!!
these things are so much harder to have as an international student… like i think honor classes don’t even exist in my country
Yep here too ..even the Activities i didn't do any simple activity cuz my school doesn't offer those one..how can i do?
@@mohamedmed1031 dang I got the same problem
@@tekashisun585 dunno :/
Yes. Honor classes dont exist in my country. Same with the subject selection thing. In India, we do not have any option of selecting subjects.
Kush Patel we don’t either..
Hey Brooke. Thanks a lot for the tips. What if what you're committed to is a non traditional activity?
Class of 2021 Good luck i hope y'all have a smooth application process we are all in fact dead inside now but at least we have no ACT/ SAT this year :)
Rightttt
8:55 okay I literally am taking flight lessons & have been wondering what category that would fit into & i’m literally shocked she used it as an example
That´s so cool
Thanks for all the information! But I have a question, if i`m not planning on writing about it in my essays, would saying that I suffered from depression/ there is a history of mental/personality disorders run through my family, and due to external factors (two friends attempting suicide, they`re both fine thank god) caused a drop in my grades/ my failing of a class? or should I write that in my essays? My guidance and parents are literally useless with this application process and you`re honestly such a god send.
My first deadline is tomorrow and I've just started the Common App...Grind time!
all boolin
How'd it go?
@@ihatebears7445 Got rejected haha
Hey, quick question:
I have done a lot of activities during my high school and I consider myself a good athlete and I boast about that on my activities section all day but I can’t provide proof to anything I state, I just don’t have any certificates of excellence in my soccer career and I just have a bunch of plastic medals that looks like I bought them from the store so will universities ask for proof or ask someone at my high school for the activities that I have done?
Thanks in advance.
hey ahmad where are u from i to play soccer i dont have any certificates i own few district ones but dont have my nationals i have the same question
For the activities section, what should you do if your activity is only about once a month? I am an officer for my school's best buddies chapter. We only have one meeting a month though. I was the social media coordinator this past year, plus a peer buddy (buddy of the student with a disability). I will be an officer again this year, but in a different position. Should I count in the time I spent doing the social media and spending time/talking with my buddy each week?
Class 2022 are you here?
These videos are super timely and relevant and helpful and I really appreciate it! Thank you for doing this :)
What response did you get from universities?
@@mr-bean2306 I got rejected from almost every university except for Santa Clara University lol. I decided to go to community college and transfer, and I had much better results in transfer admissions. I'm now a senior at UC Davis and will be graduating this year.
@@MomoNadeem You must have applied to high tier universities with lower acceptance rate. Did you get any scholorship? You filled CSS profile and how you wrote your common app essay
@@mr-bean2306 its not always about acceptance rate. I got rejected from a school all my guidance counselors said would be a safety because I applied to a very impacted major (computer science) and they did not have enough space for me. I will admit, most of the common app schools i did apply to were also very competitive but I was aiming for a UC like Davis or UCSD (both of which I got rejected from as well). I'm at Davis now so it all worked out in the end
Hi Moumina, was the transfer from the community college to the University easy ?
Because I hear that chances are very low when it comes to transferring from a community college to a uni.
If i created a newspaper with a college program, where would that go?
lol the cut off for honor roll at my school is 3.14
π
We have 3 honor rolls- honors, distinguished honors, and principal academic achievement. Cut offs are 3.5 W, 4.0 W, and 4.0 UW respectively.
@@alexworrall6283 what does W and UW stand for?
IRINA Karpisheva W is weighted, UW is unweighted
Also, could I add camping as an activity? Every summer, I go camping with my dad at our family's cabin. It's a large part of my life and who I am as a person. How would I add this activity if it's mainly during the summer though?
Should I include a particular extra-curricular in the activities section if I'm going to specifically articulate that activity in my essays? I mean I don't want to repeat myself...
SupertutorTV can you tell me how can I send my certificates of extracurricular activities to college through the common application.
Pleeasseee, might you do one of the coalition application?
I feel so stressful recent days because I apply these top colleges as an International student... making the application process even more competitive😭
So what do I put on the common app activity section if I don't have an activity that I did for all 4 years of highschool??? In freshman and sophomore year, I tried out a variety of clubs until I finally settled with the ones I truly like in junior year.
hey, i am actually applying to common app from my house by myself and even in my high school there are no college counselors. So what can I do in the counselor section?
Should I check the gap year box if I graduated and plan to take a year off between highschool and college?
Thank you so much .
My school gives distinction and merit cards for a academic excellence. Should I include that under honors?
thank you guys, It's more apparent after your videos. I have a question about applications. Do you think it is profitable to record video for application? thank you again.
I appreciated this video, as a college advisor, however I found that the family section can be stressful and not so easy for some students who are very difficult household situations. It is not something that all students can easily fill out.
I give calculus lessons via CZcams. Can I put that as a non-traditional activity?
Can you make an video for how to apply for EOP on common app
Are the honors only academic achievements? I have a few awards that I don’t know where to put
are you sure about adding another essay in the additional section. I heard admission officers really don't want to read another essay and that this space should be really used only for additional info not story telling. Your thoughts
Every college is different. If a specific college in an info session tells you NOT to tell stories in this section then you can follow that advice for that college. There is no way I can read the mind of every admission officer in the country.
On the whole, for competitive colleges, I find that my successful students (i.e. admits at Harvard, U Chicago and Berkeley last year or two) DID submit something here-- whether elaboration on some off grade, a particular educational circumstance, explanation of an activity that wouldn't fit, an extra essay or a combination of those. Does that mean those admissions officers didn't want those essays? I have no idea. But I don't think they hurt anyone. Worst case an admission officer may skim and not really read it. Of course if the essay is crap or not as strong as other essays. don't submit just to submit. You want this to be worth someone's time / really good if you do put something here. Also, if you're not applying to top 50 schools I don't think it matters as much unless you do have something you need to explain.
Thanks Brooke. I appreciate the answer. The question was for my daughter. A high achiever like yourself. She is the one who showed me your channel. She is applying to top 10 schools, among others. Her stats and activities are in the ballpark. I think it's up to the essays and the letters of rec (she won't see those) that's why she is concerned about adding a second essay in the additional info section. Schools like Harvard and Pomona have a long essay in their supplemental but other schools don't hence my question. Thanks again Brooke. You give the best advises on CZcams.
So I see your involvement in high school was mostly in fine arts, what was your major?
Would you recommend doing optional essays? I have some but I'm not 100% sure on what I want to write about and it's not required so I don't know if I'm going to do it the best I can
Yes. Always, yes unless it's your backup school and you don't care whether you get in or not or are overqualified in general for the school.
I have a question,
I’m a Junior this year and I’ve been homeschooled for all of high school. I’ve been taking many Dual Enrollment classes this year and I plan to take them my senior year (for as long as I can)
We’re thinking about enrolling me into the High School here in town for my senior year.
Do you think that would look good on my College Application, or do you think the Dual Enrollment classes is enough to show I actually got a good education. (I have straight As in all of my classes so far.)
Thanks! 😄☺️😄
It's up to you, Rachel. If you do stay on the home school track, taking more SAT Subject tests is one way to show proficiency in comparison to other students, as is taking courses at a community college. I have seen home school students get into good colleges but usually test scores (in particular subject test or AP scores if you have them) weigh more heavily on the application.
Brooke Hanson thanks so much, as of now I’m planning on taking The Biology subject test and I’m also taking the SATs in the spring. I might end up taking a few more subject tests also.
I should I put my resume inside the additional information section?
Mam, is it possible for some people to not have the "Scholarship Information" tab? I actually don't have it in my commonapp.
So I'm an international student applying from India and we dont really have "honors" here? I dont even know what it means exactly? can someone please clear out how we need to fill that section
Honors are just your biggest achievements ...
Is this still up to date for the class of 2022?
can you list research you did as part of a fellowship (10 week fellowship)? It was published
Can international students recieve the common app's fee waiver?
Where should I put summer programs?
i love Brooke.
question, can athletic awards go into the honors section of the commonapp
Please can I use common app to apply for colleges for next year
Quick question while using the common app do we have to pay each colleges application fee or do you just pay one time for every college you signed up for?
Yes pay each one
Thanks saving my life, again ahah
Hello, I want to ask you if you want to apply in the USA, do I need IELTS. I have the SAT is enough? Thanks for the reply.
I am still a little confused on the community based organizations... what is the purpose of that section? Is that community service or organization that helped you find colleges or what?
Also, you said put club names that make sense. If i am part of my school’s Amity Awarness Club, and it helps people in need, would I have to change the name or just describe in description? 🤷🏻♀️ Thanks Brooke!
These are typically non profits that help students with backgrounds from which students less typically apply, receive admission to, or attend college. They won't apply for many students.
do i have to use my real a count when i'm using this application
If you have limited information of a parent, can you exclude them?
we need an updated version
6:30 Will be using that advice in college too 😏
class of 22, it’s time!
class of 2021 wya
Can I do this yet? If I am class of 2022
Would awards from math competitions (AMC, AIME, USAMO) or other Olympiads count as honors, or is that supposed to me more academic awards (such as honor roll, department awards, etc)?
and by awards in competitions, I mean scores and placement (x/15 on the AIME, y/42 on the USAMO, 56th place in the nation on z Olympiad, etc), not actual certificates/awards with names.
Is this aap available for international students??
i want to apply tsls application but something wrong my password.can u help me out.pliz.
Do you think a black belt in taekwondo could be listed as an honor?
Do we use this common application to all the colleges we apply to?
I would recommend the coalition vs common app video. It’s very good to walk you through the different types. Or Jillian Goldbergs video on the common app very underrated.
Is this the same as the common app
Any Class of 2022 students confused as hell?
I just started my 12th so if i want to apply for btech in Texas US i need to apply next year ryt or this year itself?
if you're a 12th grader ofc you need to apply this summer
What about things like taking care of siblings?
Yup
2022-2023?😢I need full scholarship😢
Its because of you guys that I got into Cornell
Would you mind sending us this in an email? supertutortv.com/contact

When common app is live around early August, some college specific supplemental prompts may not be available. Is it normal or something goes wrong?
Is it the best to submit both the common app and the college supplement at the same time?
How to turn percentage into gpa???
21st CENTURY a 4 b 3 etc
If my short story is published should I put it into the awards section?
Yeah
It a achievement
Cool
Very weird question 😅Can I just lie about my extracurricular activities?Like I played volleyball at my school, but won nothing 🤦🏻♀️
You can 😂
