Studies show an ivy truly alter broke families but not really to middle class and up. Think about it when forking up all that money.

Cornell ed1 is def up there as well
yes. though GPA matters a touch more IMO there, essays less so.
Hi Brook. My name is Victor, and I learned a lot from your video of how to apply to colleges. I have a problem, and I am hoping you could help me. I just find out I got rejected from Stanford. That was my dream school. I thought for sure I got in because I found an online company that sells stress balls to relieve people's stress. I saw other webinars that taught you how to be exceptional, and not just doing what most applicants do, which is just getting good grades, good SAT scores, and activities most applicants do. I thought most applicants don't found online companies because this is something that is unique since most applicants don't do online companies. They just do activities most people do in schools, which is whatever clubs have at school. So I thought I got in Stanford because I did something exceptional and most applicants didn't do. But somehow I still got rejected. Could you give me reasons why Stanford rejected me? I am sure you could tell me since you are an expertise in college admissions. If you serve in the committee that recruits students, then you must tell me. Could you also give me suggestions what kind of activities I should join so I could get into Stanford. Also could you tell me this: is it because Stanford get a sense my online business doesn't generate any sales so it rejected me. But how would they know. Or they psyche me out and know. Could you tell me about this too. Please email me. Thank you for your attention Brooke.
Offhand I would say check your grammar, word choice and spelling… it could be your level of fluency or TOEFL… but Stanford overall is highly competitive and excellent candidates sometimes get rejected
thanks! do colleges value working a TAs when compared to actually doing courses or science camps? or is TA just seen as voluteering and nothing more.
It’s neither here nor there I don’t see any of these is superior to the others. The big question is what stories can you tell and how do your experiences in these activities reveal who you are? That’s what you can Ileverage in your app the most.
Hey Hey Brooke, I want to say our sons practice scores have gone up 3 points so far and he is using your ACT program daily. We are so excited!
So excited to hear this! Thank you so much for sharing
Is Teaching Assistant seen as volunteer work?
Hey there, I have a question to ask( heads up it's long, so thanks in advance). I m in my first year of bachelors of physiotherapy in india. I want to go to Harvard medical school. What would med schools favor more- 1. Undergrad from a US state uni(after taking transfer from india)? 2. Undergrad from india, but a masters(MMSc immunology for eg)'from an Ivy like Harvard( provided I get in). If I choose transfer, I ll be limited to state unis cz of my course and fees. For masters, however, I can apply to ivies as well. *(In either case, I ll supplement my education with a post-bacc pre-med program as well)
good luck to those taking it tmr!1 i am so nervous!
Good luck to all taking the SATs!

thanks for this!!!! im taking the SAT in two days so i need this

First comment 👍👍👍
Well food and rest if you go to the sat while being sleepy you won't do great
Thanks
Sorry not to be combative but how old were these students? I’m seeing more and more research that you are better off not eating. You have better cognitive performance because your body is alert and on the look out for food.
Elementary through high school age- though studies I show in video were all high school age students I believe
what website are they using?
No, it would not be written like that in a spreadsheet, a real world application. It would be written the way it was originally presented.
for the first question, the answer had to be between -6 and 2, but you crossed out two answers that fit the criteria without explaining why
Dude i got a 920 on my psat
Good luck everyone who is taking the test. Love posting vids on my channel for those desmos shortcuts
How can i afford an hour of consultation with ms Brook?
The basic idea was to only allow these tests to be taken at special exam locations with requisite security programs to force legitimate test taking! Destroying the security aspect devalues the validity of the test process! Any one who takes College Board tests at hone on the internet can easily have somebody else take the test for them. IT'S TOTALLY RIDICULOUS!
If some of them are wondering than someone didn’t do a good job informing them when they applied.
Mam i cant open it it says error processing request could you help me out
currently waitlisted at ucsb and ucsd? are my odds good? as a transfer
Please, I wish to apply as an international student from Cameroon. Please, is there hope for me? My dream school is Stanford University
In my school, people start asking for letters of rec in March of junior year 😭
I did 4 days of cramming and got 1040, I’m retaking again in a week with 2 weeks of cramming. I hope for a 1200 😅
People. Listen to Brooke. Even if just to subscribe to her videos. Son got into Notre Dame today as a transfer and I think he owes it to Super Tutor TV and the College Essay Guy.
Brooke, I have a few questions: 1) How does the admission staff identify the student as an Asian American if he/she has a non-Asian last name (due to adoption, for example)? Aside from the last name do students submit photos of themselves (like they do in Asia)? Or somewhere on the application they ask for an ethnicity question? 2) If there are no photos or ethnicity questions then Asian American parents should do a name change for their kids in elementary school. Wouldn't this solve the problem? Afterall, this is no different than a game, right? In a game we change our avatar as many times as we wish, right?
Is there any hope for international students?
By 4 years of math, does that mean in high school or can that include middle school stuff? I've completed all the courses at my school and won't have 4 in high school
Assuming this means you’ve done more obscure maths like AP Stats, or maths that some schools don’t offer like Calc BC
Generally, 4 years on your high school transcript. If your middle school courses were taken at the high school in 8th grade and are on the transcript, that can work. Sometimes I recommend students take a summer class at a community college -- depending on where they are headed or want to attend and what the requirements are.
@@brookifyd ok, I mean I've taken every math course at my school including calc bc and stats and multivariable, I was just wondering if that it is ok that I won't be enrolled in a math class for 4 years during high school
We are in California and my junior daughter is set on SDSU which we originally thought of as a target for her. Even with her 4.2 gpa its looking more like a reach for psychology major. With no essays or a way to stand out I'm not sure what more she can do.
Activities section still exists-- I would focus on an activity or two this summer in which she can explore her area of interest!
@brookifyd thank you so much for your reply! She does have a few activities...American red cross, track and field, mentorship program and an etsy shop. I had heard activities didn't matter much for Cal States but maybe that's not true?
@@whipsandchains1 they matter less than grades-- but in competitive majors showing interest in that subject outside the classroom can sometimes be helpful. If she hasn't taken any psych courses that could also help.
@@brookifyd thanks for your help! She is currently in AP psych .
It's kind of a full circle moment. I just graduated from Columbia University. I remember watching this channel's videos religiously when I was still taking the ACT and beginning to get ready to apply for college. I look back fondly on this channel. My little cousin is gonna be applying to colleges this next upcoming cycle and I am for sure going to share this video and tell her about this channel. Keep doing the work you are doing, it makes a difference.
Thanks so much for sharing! Congratulations on graduating from Columbia! Onward and upward!
That you are suppose to give ANY information like that for a college application is outright insane.
Hey, US state uni ( cal state, Ohio state) or top Canadian colleges ( mcgill, u of t), if final goal is to work in the US, and eventually settle there after graduation ?
That’s why it’s laughable. Colleges banging you out for hundreds of thousands of dollars and you can’t even say you want some chedda cheese! Thank god for CUNY and that I didn’t have to go some propped up private college
this is so helpful! thanks!
What’s an A average in percentile is that like 95% to 100% btw your unweighted average doesn’t matter only your weighted GPA matters
There are way too many spots given to students who have wealthy parents and connections with the school such as legacy. They use to have affirmative action as a means to expiate their unethical behavior but thankfully that is supposed to end. They victimize Asian Americans with BS criteria like lack of personality. So in STEM fields such as engineering and CS, non Ivy schools out rank the Ivies, because you can’t BS your way in those disciplines. Avoid Ivies at all cost unless your parents are super wealthy or you have an “in”.
What about NYU??
Hey, US state uni ( cal state, penn state) or top Canadian colleges ( u of t, mcgill, etc) if final goal is to work and settle in the US
The percent of people who get a 5 is not a good indicator of how hard the exam is. For example calc BC and Spanish language have really high pass rates and 5 rates however the students in that class are incredibly qualified for that class. In my opinion we should look at the % correct needed to get a 5, this metric is much better because it gives an estimate by the college board of how tough the exam is. In my opinion based on this metric I think AP physics C is the toughest exam. In order to get a 5 on the exam a student must score 50%. So a highschool F is = to a 5 on the AP test.
I was trying to explain this concept of the number of valedictorians and students in the top 10 of their schools with school data from the US. Those students aren't that special in the admit pool. Same thing with National Merit Scholarship Commended and other status. There are so many of them in the National Merit Scholarship recognitions at all of the levels. It is a lot to be proud of but it isn't something that distinguishes you from others at top schools. If your child is an A student with 3 or 4 on an AP exam, that's grade inflation. People do not understand this.
On one AP exam, I don't see that as grade inflation. If it's a pattern of getting 3s and they're receiving As, then it could become alarming
44% of students have an A average?
Getting an A is bot that hard, I've seen B students in phsyics not understqnd basic physics concepts let alone the math for it and they still get B's so the A just means you know the work kinda well which is about the equivilant to getting around 70 in other countries which is about average.
@@CriticalCipher I was teaching assistant in a physics department 30 years ago I remember only like 5% of students can consistently score 90+ in tests and exams.
@@chenyansong That seems hiw it should be. If just about half the students get 90% then the tests are too easy as you are limiting the ones who arw doing too well and you are making people who shouldn't be getting 90% over confident and them when they go into higher education they fail and waste money as the difficulty is expontially more than it was on highschool
I'm not sure about the numbers being that high
As a Cornell student you can understand why
Your information is good but your speech are fast
