I just got mine yesterday and I haven't had the chance to take it out yet, but so far I love it 🙂it is exactly what I was hoping for. Last year I got my first FX30 and a second one a couple of months ago for CZcams and I have been lugging one of them around for day trips and holidays and was always missing an EVF for photo so this one was perfect for me (I also thought it was a bit bulk for travel).
This gives me the "almost" same camera but with better photo features in a smaller package and I get the same video quality/workflow I'm used to which I love. I hope it doesn't overheat for my holiday videos but then again, I don't think I ever take longer recordings than 5min, so I hope I'm going to be fine. 😅
Also thanks for the video, love the content ❤

Been shooting lumix and fuji, fuji xh2 has been my goto work camera for video since it came out. 8k internal and I've never had an overheating issue. Used a7iv recently, and loved it. I've used the a6700 a bunch outdoors in Osaka and Kyoto Japan for my Japan experience videos, as well as for long studio recordings for the talking head of the videos. Since my outdoor shooting is long sessions of short stop-and-go shooting and just occasional 120p, again, short spurts, I haven't had any overheating. I was more worried about the long studio recordings but so far no overheating. I keep the room at about 26 Celcius. But for studio, I usually just connect the 6700 to my computer's OBS and record to the hard drive. My only problem is finding usb-c cable that the 6700 will let me record 4k over. I tested my Sony A6700 in 4k60 and it overheated after 1 hour and 3 minutes with the following parameters:
73 F ambient indoor temperature, no sunlight (nighttime)
A6700 mounted and connected via USB to Ronin RS3 Pro
Ulanzi camera fan mark 2 attached, set to "2" (fastest) and plugged in to Baseus 30,000mah battery
    No external monitor
    Built in off-brand battery
    Lexar 1800x SD card
    4k60 h264 slog3
AF-C with peaking and zebras on, ISO 2500 or higher
My A6700 overheated after the Ulanzi showed 36 C for several minutes with the heat warning on for several minutes. It appears once this camera reaches 36 C it's going to overheat.
I did a similar test in 4k24 but with the camera plugged into the Basesus (USB PD) and disconnected from the RS3. It did not overheat during the same 1:03. The Ulanzi fan showed 31 C so it's reasonable to assume the camera will go indefinitely in this mode with this setup. The Baseus powered the A6700 but did not charge it while recording, the battery percentage stayed the same. Powering both the A6700 and Ulanzi for over an hour only used 9% of my Baseus's 30,000mah battery.
I believe a dummy battery would improve these numbers and allow me to use the gimbal.
In this scenario, the A6700 provides a superior image than the Pocket 4k for similar money. But the image is non-raw and the Pocket 4k can record in 4k60 indefinitely thanks to its internal fan and smaller sensor. And you get AF-C on the A6700. Both cameras are fully compatible with the RS3 Pro but the A6700 is much smaller and lighter.

Wild variation could be explained by: some models not getting thermal paste somewhere; or a heat pipe (copper with alcohol inside) not being manufactured correctly. Just wanted people to be aware, these could 100% explain the variation. I'm a stills only guy, if I record a very rear video, I'll do it in 1080p, so overheating is not an issue for me. The a6700 is a fantastic hybrid camera, much more suited for photography. I think content creators/videographers should get the FX30 or it's full frame big brother, the FX3. In my opinion, the alpha series cameras which are without active cooling (i.e without a fan) are built for stills and some ocasional short video clips, and NOT intended for wedding videography or more than half an hour recordings in 4k60 with high bitrate. 4k120 on the a6700 is more or less a PR gymmic, not a real feature. I think that overheating is a big issue also on the ZV-E1, because of the lack of active cooling. This is so bad, how come Sony hasn't figured out their overheating issues across their lineup. This would have been understandable for a camera just getting into 4k resolution, but cameras with that internal recording resolution have been out for long, their image processing doesn't seem to be efficient. So much of content has shifted to long form, even for short form content, just because it isn't recording doesn't mean the heat isn't building up. I understand Sony likes to apply Apple's ladder system for their product so that they can make an argument of buying the fx30 in this case for a fan, but they should really consider some other "feature" to convince people to go up the ladder for a more expensive camera than just a fan.

No, Don't count on a firmware. The a7iv overheated and it NEVER got a firmware to take care of that problem! Don't even think about it. Send it back or better yet, don't even consider buying it. FX30 OR NOTHING! 😎😎

No overheating on the Panasonic S5II. Doesn’t cost much more.

Simple Solution: "Send the Sony a6700 BACK TO SONY!" There's no sense trying to revive a Dead Horse! Hey Partner, You are at the end of the trail. There is no water. You are in a desert. All that lies around you on the ground are skull bones of dead cows! Sent it back & let Sony know that this cam does NOT meet your expectations. They know better. 😎😎

So it is pretty useless for video users.

Sony created a false dilemma with these two cameras. Photographers need dual card slots, and videographers need viewfinder. And, of course, plenty of people like me want a camera that can shoot stills and video without compromising either pursuit.
They could easily solve this by creating an optional add-on viewfinder for the FX3 and FX30. I know third-party options exist, but they are not elegant.
