    The word "potsticker" actually originates from China where chefs would accidentally leave their dumplings in their woks for too long thus resulting in the water evaporating and causing the dumplings to stick to the pan. In America I think it's more common they call them dumplings.

    • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
      @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley Před 2 lety +55

      I've heard all three interchangeably, though potsticker the most. Isn't there a version of these that are only boiled without being fried? Maybe those are what we called Chinese dumplings here in the U.S. Fried gyoza are way better and is the name I see when I order from my local Japanese restaurant.

    • @selinie777
      @selinie777 Před 2 lety +51

      @@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley the Chinese have both steamed dumplings, called jiaozi, and pot sticker, which are fried dumplings.

      @@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley potsticker is more of pan Fried dumplings like gyoza but dumpling is mostly steamed or cooked dumpling

    • @bobbysmith8095
      @bobbysmith8095 Před 2 lety +20

      Yeah, where I am from CA, Potsicker are mostly Chinese cuisine and always fry with that crispy skin. Gyoza are always Japanese and only found in sushi or Japanese shop/restaurant , never seen a Chinese shop offering them. Dumpling would be the general term and can be any cuisine from Korean to even American flour dumpling. So where I am from, just using gyoza would be really confusing. It really depend where you are from but California pretty diverse in Asian ethnicities so one word wouldn't work. However, in some state where there are only a few Asian ethnicities, they may just call everything dumpling. Haven't been outside of CA, so I wouldn;t know.

    • @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
      @BewareTheLilyOfTheValley Před 2 lety +8

      @@AlvinaYunoa Some Americans don't know the difference and so things are simplified to appeal to us and not sound so foreign, lol. Hence the creation of terms like "potsticker".

    Aki, you should move your fire blanket away from the stove. it is recommended to place it ideally between the stove and the exit at least 2 meters from the stove, that way if there is a fire you move toward the exit to get the fire blanket, making it easier to escape if you can't control the fire.
