Six blades are plenty enough, I love the bold hexagonal specular highlights I get with the 50mm 1.8. Haven't found myself a 135 yet, Pentacons aren't that common around here.
15 blades destroy 6 blades, you can stop down to 5.6 and have round creamy delight.
Recently got my first two m42 lenses... trying to resist delving into the rabbit hole that is this lens mount haha. Great content as always Brian, cheers

isnt there some kind of adapter ring you could use to push the filter further out of the lens ? does the lens hood come off ?

I just got one. The focus is quite stiff and lens hood is loose. It has no caps either. But the image....I love it! I will buy another one and will keep this. Maybe will try to lubricate. If I brake it, whatever. ... I definitely will buy other.
In nice condition shame you haven't got the chrome tab for the f nos selection... I have one winging it's way to me via ebay... Nice video... Brian..

I have the Auto MC too on my Canon 6D with an adapter. My focus ring is super stiff to the point that, while still workable, it's not suitable for candid shooting or walking around in places trying to snap pics of stuff happening. It's hard to refocus in time to catch any passing action if the previous focus point is far away from what I need. Image-wise this lens does deliver, and I'd too recommend this if someone can find one which has its 50-year old lubricants still working as intended.
It's a nice choice for sure, even though I've read conflicting perspectives about this lens.
Another cheap one is the Jupiter 37/A, but I've recently bought the original zebra version of the CZ Jena Sonnar in good condition which costed me €10, didn't have a chance to try it yet.
That's a darn good price for a Sonnar. Well done.
Wouldn't it be interesting to see if you could replace the front element on the 15 blade with a later multi coated front lens...
I bought my copy (electric variant) several years ago, yes, dirt cheap (about US$20), but since than the price quadrupled in my country for a nice copy. I mean, that's still quite cheap, especially for what it is, but not as it once was.
Unfortunately, only later I discovered that that lens suffers from haze. It's still razor sharp, that's unaffected, but contrasts are really low. So since my copy was so dirt cheap, I was on a hunt for another one. Guess what, ALL OF THEM regardless the price or variant had the same problem. So either east Germans at Pentacon used some crappy lubricant (what's not far fetched since they relied on russian oil which is filled with sulphur, in those times synthetic lubricant wasn't available), or folks around me tend to store their old lenses at the attic, where high temperatures tend to dissolve the lubricant durning the summer time, or both...
To conclude, some day I'll have to open and clean that lens myself, since no one who could do that in my city wants to do it, or they demand a fee far greater than that lens is worth...
