  • Aroid Market have very kindly sent me 9 amazing uncommon plants all the way from Indonesia to unbox for all of you! There are some pretty phenomenal plants in here and some I don't really understand. To be honest, I'm not very deterred by the about of yellow leaves at the beginning because had I received the plants without those leaves I'd be super duper happy. It's just part of the importing process. You're not going to get perfect plants 100% of the time, but I'd certainly import from Aroid Market again. Import at your own risk!

    That's hoya dischidia major, the one you were confused about lol but sadly I think it's dead cause the healthy one is in green color not brown like that :( I'm from Indonesia by the way, always excited to see some imported plants from my country. Sorry for the damaged or dead plants, hope the other ones survive under your care! ♥️

      Yeah see that's what I was thinking too because all the pictures I could find on google or IG were nice and lush and green. But on the aroid market website, their picture was yellow, like the one I have... Anyways, live goes on and I hope I can keep the others happy :) thanks for the confirmation! It really helps!

      @@GoodGrowing glad if it helped! Yeah I just looked it up on the website too and that looks weird honestly lol because the ones that are sold at other plant markets near me are bright green. Hope there's a little hope for the plant to keep growing.

      @@GoodGrowing actually the yellowing or brown color might happen because it was grown in direct sunlight. If it's still firm and not mushy, it is fine in my opinion. I saw these a lot on trees especially near a forest. When it's drought season and all trees drop their leaves, this hoya will be susceptible by the direct sunlight and get sunburn from it. And then turn yellow or brown, but it'll turn green again when there's enough canopy to protect it from the sun. The tricky part of keeping this plant is their watering. They don't need soil, hate overwatering, but considered as thirsty plant too. I think you should treat them similarly to air plant.

    Hi Emma! I just wanted to comment on the variegated Sodiroi thing.
    I know the OnlyPlants (think it was him from memory) video you are talking about. I have a sodiroi that I got as a super tiny pup, the leaves are maybe 1.5cm across and down. After about the 5th leaf the new growth came in looking speckled, it was tiny, (even smaller than the others) and it was distorted. It looked sick. This is when I googled and found the video you're talking about.
    I honestly think my situation is what he was referring to. The leaves LOOK and feel unhealthy. Whereas yours look decent size, not distorted, round, full and healthy. Even so, I'd leave it isolated from your other plants til you get some new growth that's healthy and happy.
    Just my two cents :)
    Also I've seen hardcore hoya people put internationally acquired plants directly into a water bath, leaves and all.

      Hey! I know we spoke on IG about this but thanks for that info. It's defo helping me figure out what to do about the sodiroi... isolation it is for now!
      Ooh good to know about putting hoyas directly in water. Do they leave them in that for a while or just dunk?

    The dischidia major is actually its own species, not a Hoya! It might come back but it’s VERY dehydrated, it should be green and plump. I’d fully soak in water until you see signs of hydration or death, that’ll be it’s best shot at coming back

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  Před 2 lety +1

      ah very interesting! thanks for the tips! tbh I think it's too far gone as it's sooooooo dry, it would likely rot if I just left it to hydrate in water 😳

    Cool unboxing, thanks for sharing! The Paraiso - they're pretty hardy! But - the cool variegation disappears if they aren't kept really warm, and in really good light. Its genetic so stable as such but it doesn't express in the leaves in cooler conditions. I'm in southern Australia and it is too cool here even in my house for it to show, which is a bit sad lol! Mine is under bright light, but the cool climate makes the variegation go away!

    For the Hoya galactic (?) I'd recommend chopping & propping a branch of healthy leaves.
    Since the roots looked good, it may be stem rot. If you cut a stem and it bleeds white, that section is still healthy.
    I have no idea about the Dischidia major (it's not a Hoya but they're super closely related). I looked it up and it seems like a really neat plant. Another expensive plant for my wish list 😭

    Also wanted to add that Jaclynn from Jaclynn's Jungle here on YT has had really bad luck importing from these guys, and looks in this video as though they used similar packaging to hers and you also had a lot of yellow leaves. She imported a bunch of Hoya (twice) that were just mush. They either refund 50% or resend the plants but they're resending in the same packaging that didn't work first time around. Just a heads up for anyone considering purchasing :)

    Dischidia like that make two different kinds of leaves-a more puffy, cheese puff kind for ants to live in and have a beneficial relationship with the plant, and then more of a normal flat leaf. They’re so cool but yours may be(most likely) totes dead

    You do harm to the roots when you rip the dry moss off of the them; It adds to the acclimation time. I typically put the entire moss/root ball in water for 24 hours before removing the moss.

    That Dischidia Major looks dead unfortunately. The last few unboxings from Aroid Market that I have seen other CZcamsrs open have all been horrendous in which the plants have arrived dead and mushy including as someone stated earlier Jaclynn's Jungle who had 2 orders which all turned up dead. I would not touch this company with a bargepole.

    • @GoodGrowing
      @GoodGrowing  Před 2 lety +1

    • @Carey.S75
      @Carey.S75 Před 2 lety

      Exactly Emma. I don't think the paper packaging helps at all so I think they need to rethink how they pack them in the future as they must be losing quite a bit of money and most sensible traders would want to rectify this. I wonder if the people at Aroid Market watch the unboxing videos as they've had plenty of time to change the plant packaging but clearly haven't 🤔🤷‍♀

    I like your exponential way and the fact you give us reality, but you are been such a drama queen. Plants in better condition then that just if they came from the nursery down the road.
    On my first import of 11 plants(from Indonesia , different seller ) I managed to “save” 4 after 25 days in the post during winter. If my plants were in good shape like yours I would have them all.
    Also, virus can look like variegation, YES one of the difference is that viruses deteriorate the plant and it’s new growth. If you are not sure, isolation is. The best think.
