I love how they've interpreted her smiling at him blankly when he goes to kiss her as her rejecting him because that's literally what happens when you tried to make the Barbie and Ken dolls kiss as a kid. The level of detail in this film is honestly amazing.

@lenzi1345 Barbieland in the movie kind of mirrors the way young girls play with Barbies (boys mostly don't play with Barbies or Kens). So Ken is basically an afterthought in the real world and therefore in Barbieland. So criticism about how Ken is supposedly mistreated or disrespected is really a complaint about how young girls play with Barbies (and not so much with Kens). They're not even considering the fact that boys not playing with Kens (because Ken was never cool enough for them) is part of the reason for how Kens are treated.

Rather ironically Ken was the best and most relatable character in the Barbie movie.
I watched the film for the eponymous protagonist and her hero's journey, ended up staying for Ken and his arc.
Because he was an actual character, not one other “character” had a goal or was relatable in any way so of coarse he was the best, he’s the only one with any substance to them.

I was not a Ryan Gosling Ken believer way back when it was announced he’d play Ken in the Barbie movie, but as time went by and pics & trailers dropped, I changed my mind completely & was actually so excited for him to be Ken!! He nailed this role & I’m honestly sorry that I ever doubted him. I love his interviews, you can STILL feel his Kenergy. ❤❤❤
Me too funnily enough, was it because of the clips of the movie like me or???????// Thing is.... I really do think that in the movie they made him imperfect precisely so he could be believable. He is like a mirror ish version of sexism in really weird ways. He, most of the things as ken that he goes through, are what one would expect a female role to play through so it's weird. And no one is saying it can't happen to both sides of the spectrum, but in typical Hollywood. ....... ..... .... ? I think they didn't try to maximize his looks precisely so it would hit hard the issues he has. Of course he is in a relationship which we understand that Barbie is legit not interested in anybody and her whole role as an maybe asexual ending the relationship because of her maybe asexuality (not in the anatomical sense) (a role that interestingly enough has severe weird effects because it's usually made easier to process and just go on with it in movies that said character is played by a man even if the viewer is a woman, an effect im not alone in my thinking as a few old CZcams videos of analyzing movies that said the same thing are still up and about) still the fact is that he was head over heels in love with her and consensually dating.
---She did say boyfriend and girlfriend. Also "chose me over" implies choice, also very democracy like, and maybe it's a barbie must chose a ken any ken that they want but they must have love thing. So she subconsciously either chose him because she didn't want to take any ken from a barbie that wanted said ken or because she felt least uncomfy with her choice. ----
Basically he has a real reason to feel heart broken, a legit good reason. It also shows both sides of an asexual relationship. in a way. that doesn't simply was anyones issues nor make asexuality "a swing that makes no problems for the people who experience it" (It's not prosecuted for sure, but still has a lasting damage to a future cordial relationship the same way that a guy or girl that find out that their straight Romance isn't cutting it in this (metaphorical) instance )
His imperfections I think really accentuated the role he was given. Seriously, imagine him looking his 100 percent flamed up singing said song---jikes no one would even watch this song without thinking he would be over reacting (which is stereotypist of perfect people with no problems but whatever, as the director said when Barbie tried to cry about Margot Robbie not being a good cast for when making the crying scene about beauty standards)
