To be fair to Doug on this one, the pre-facelift model really wasn’t the best from Maserati and it was disappointing. The facelift car (which is the one you’re driving) is way way waaaaaay better and a massive step up from the original car.

They were never bad cars in reality. Like it or not, people like cars that give you status and it gave plenty. On top of that, it destroyed the Germans when it came to design and engine sound (at least imo). And if someone hates Maserati because of reliability, then they should hate Alfa Romeos too (they're actually the 2nd least reliable brand but no-one ever wants to point that out). The fact is, people hate Maserati's because it's 'cool' to hate them, despite basically being practical, less-expensive, Ferrari's, only in saloon form.

Now I don't know about you, but cars don't lose more half their value in 3 years if they're quality pieces! The only thing you'll ever see on forums are of two parties: "I owned it for 12 months and it was at the dealer for 11 of them." or "don't believe the haters, my car has never skipped a beat." Honest opinion- we’ve owned maseratis for about 5 years and truly no complaints. The only minor flaws are the body roll and how it gets a bit squirrely when you enter into a corner at 115mph but outside of that is a very crisp and refined drive. A lot of the people who complain about the gearbox or the clutch are the same people who don’t know the car’s shift points and just slam the throttle to “slam the throttle,” if you drive it as a proper European sports sedan you’ll have the quality and longevity of a proper European sports sedan. If you drive it like a Dodge Charger then expect it to be in the shop every few hours. Hope this helps
