Great keyboard, infra red windows hello, great audio speakers, 8 hours of active working battery life. Except from being slightly lighter and thinner, any other edge I missed for xps?( oh, tb4 maybe, and build quality? Yoga is also built full alloy btw )

@@xin2668 Agreed that your Lenovo is fantastic value for money. To me, the Dell XPS 13 is very appealing due to the striking design, excellent screen and great keyboard. I would have happily payed the premium price for what is arguably the best designed thin and light windows laptop right now. However, I would also expect a premium laptop to offer the best possible performance for its size. Currently, that would require a CPU from AMD or Apple depending on OS.

I love to see that at 100% utilization it doesn't run hotter than 70°C at even the more silent settings. On top of that it makes nearly no noise. If someone needed a small, portable and silent laptop for work what doesn't stand out visually this would be my go to for recommending.

I'm currently using my dell 9343 which may be the same model you had. I replaced the battery and it's running like a champ. I would love to upgrade because it is a little choppy, but dell saying the 9310 battery isn't user replaceable is really a bummer. I get around 6 hours of battery on my old config with touchscreen 3200x1800 display.

I have this computer, it has an amazing keyboard, it's screen is beautiful, and the usability is great, especially with windows 11 on it (which is debatable, but I personally like it!). The only thing wrong with it (at least with the 2-in-1 version) is when I hold it up using the palm rest and try to click on the trackpad, the trackpad gets stuck in the down position. I got it on discount on Black Friday and frankly, it was an amazing deal. I can game on it, it is easy to do college work on, 9/10 would recommend.

This is the way. A thin and light with no dedicated GPU should focus more on noise rather than pointlessly pushing the chip for nothing. An option would always be nice for those who somehow need it while using such a machine.

Only thing is 11th Gen Intel CPUs are a screw offs and it affects performance but the Iris Xe is decent, not too great tho. • @mukkaar
    @mukkaar Před 3 lety +4

Personally think they should ditch the 13, 15 and 17 inch and go to 14 and 16 inch versions exclusively. 13" screen is quite small, but due to minimal bezels the actual size of 14" laptops are now same size as 13" laptops few years back. Even older 13" ultrabooks were small, it really makes no sense to make actual device smaller when you could gain more screen space by keeping the device size same. And anyways all the laptop sleeves, cases and stuff that have been designed for 13" takes modern 14" with minimal bezels.
I think it really needs one additional regular USB, otherwise it's pretty perfect laptop ignoring the screen size.

Reviews consistently praise the XPS. I too find the laptop very desirable. But it omits every extra feature out there that competition can offer - 2k display, ports beyond type c, repairability, good webcam, higher refresh rate, great battery life. It just has none of those. In the market for a new PC for casual use, this laptop trades so many extras for sleekness, finding it tough to take the plunge.

Maybe irrelevant for most of you but still: Coming from a ThinkPad X230 from 2012, i actually tried the XPS 13 2-in-1. Fan Noise was louder and much more high pitched than what is shown here. But the fans were off most of the time, so ok. I send it back because of the keyboard. Layout is good for the size, but i couldn‘t get comfortable with the super low key travel of 1mm. Also the 2-in-1 Keyboard, which is different to this one, is super loud. Nothing for silent concentrated working really. I really don‘t get how many youtubers rated this as an A+ keyboard.

It seems that most reviewers miss out the real issues the device has. Makes it hard for me to research what replacement to get.
Check the Dell community forums. There are so many posts of users with the screens turning black for no reason or system just simply locking up. This issue happens not just in Windows but Linux as well. In fact, users are suggesting to drop the display down to 48Hz to avoid this issue.

nice review, yet I think you skipped the part where the xPS 9310 was the worst Resolve machine even among 1165/1185 and by a non trivial margin. I am testing the two-in-one version 9310 with 32GB ram and 1TB nvme, and even an basic h264 1080p project in premiere leads to massive frame drops. I was expecting more from the XE. I am sending mine back to dell.

@@Arkan_Fadhila No, just that dell& msi never started using AMD. The major problem is still with the chip shortage. Some the most popular ones last year(g14, legion5, omen15,nitro5,envy 13x360)were amd, and many product lines from Lenovo, Asus(&rog),hp and acer have slowly switched over including the $3000+ Zephyrus duo, so intel does have pretty sufficient supply(also following the successful macbook air w/ M1) that meets the high demands in difficult times.
Amd done well with the ryzen4000&5000, and ryzen4000 also came with a lower pricetag which was the major reason to its success, but ryzen3000m& radeon5000m were still crap. End of the day it just depends on stock, price&performace, no brand 'dominates'over another.
If a 10750h config is priced $200 lower than 5800h it will still sell crazy and likely be the best laptop of the year

Well we need 5nm x86 CPUs to actually compete. Unfortunately 5nm Zen 4 will be delayed to next year. Maybe Intel might come close with Alder Lake mobile? From what I know it has a good chance of beating Zen 3.

@@mingyi456 Yeah who knows. But for.the rest of 2021 I can't see anything in the thin and light segment touch a M1 macbook. Ryzen CPUs certainly brings good game though but so many premium laptops like Dell XPS is still Intel. But who knows what future M1 soc's will do in the high end laptops and desktops.

Be extremely carefull with Dell XPS, they come out of the factory with bitlocker half on/half off on the hard disk, if a windows update messes up and leaves your windows in a non-bootable state, the bitlocker will prevent you from ever getting your files back. Windows will show a confusing option as 'turn bitlocker on' , making, you think it isn't on, but it is, except there haven't been any recovery keys set only TPM which doesn't help when your windows is broken. So first thing to check when you get an XPS , start CMD as administrator and run in dos prompt : manage-bde -status to check if disk encryption is activated. As it most likely is , go to control panel and activate bit locker (yes even though it already is...) so you can set a recovery key yourself, save the key in 2-3 places, afterwards , keep the disk encrypted as is while atleast having a key, or ommediatly after setting a key, de-encrypt the drive and turn bitlocker off again. This is a dangerous practice and you are not informed about this and once windows messes up an update, which always happens eventually it is too late and you have lost any method to get your files back. Because you can't repair the windows , as the harddisk will be locked.

If you want to add peripherals but don't want to invest in a thunderbolt 4 docking station just yet, can you plug in a USB-c docking station to one of the 2 Thunderbolt 4 ports on the laptop (primarily to connect a HDMI monitor, mouse & keyboard, and USB external drives)? I have read that the thunderbolt ports are downwardly compatible but don't know if this would work.
