    Congrats on restoring a basket-case! One landfill is smaller due to your diligent efforts. But we sure could use someone like you here in N. Centr. FL. Messages sent to top ac repair and manufacturer (Frigidaire) for a year-old unit I installed last Aug. that just stopped cooling. So far: *Crickets * -Only deafening silence from all concerned. Except the fan motor. Outside is 78° inside is 83°! House is well-insulated and holds heat! No one here works on window units. *sigh *

    They make little tools that fit almost any fins per inch pattern for straightening fins. I forget what it cost, but it wasn't much for the hassle it saves. Especially if you are doing multiple units. it does several fins at a time.

    Hi,guys! Just cleaned my wall unit. I was carefully to not get water to the control panel or any electrical parts. But still not starts. I can hear a little buzzing noise but neither the fan or compressor starts. I can use the control panel ,shows temperature, mode etc but that's all. Any idea? Could be the capacitor got little bit of moisture? Appreciate any thoughts

  • @hullinstruments
    @hullinstruments Před 3 lety +3

    Yep the relays in those things can fail really easily. For some reason it seems condensation or moisture finds its way into the circuitboard, and since the relay isn’t sealed… It gets into the coil and starts to corrode those tiny wires in the relay coil. You can easily pop the relay open once it’s off the board and fix the relay usually even with corrosion… i’ve seen this exact failure mode a dozen times on these boards. Just a little bit of corrosion creeps up the legs of the relay and corrodes the tiny coil wire disconnecting it from the leg. Also the small voltage regulator in the TO 220 package can get hot and overheat/go bad

      @@dreamsnchains4830 My "part" arrived just the other day: a brand new air conditioner by Midea, top-rated and more power. Some $300+ with free shipping via Amazon- but worth it. Out with 6,000 in with 8,000 BTU's. LR is now a cool 73-74 degrees and dogs are resting comfortably.
      Am now the proud (scsm) owner of no less than SEVEN window ac units, ONE of which is working. (To be fair four are antiques with outdated coolant so that leaves three)... And hoping to repair the other two including the one just referred here. Because always you need backup... so THIS never happens again.

    How do you tell if compressor works or not? Mine is in the window, can't take out. It blows but it is not cool air. I cleaned filter, then cleaned back and front. But it will not blow cold air. Is there a simple way to check if that thermo thing works in front for temperature and to see if the compressor comes on?. Mine runs, blows air but I dont know if the compressor is working. Thanks any quick testing for a female would be great. I took the front off and cleaned like I said. I just cannot swing a new a/c window unit. It's a fridgidair 5,000 btu w/ electronic controls. It's a bedroom a/c unit. Ithittimg 100 plus here now. :/

All the hvac people I've called won't even consider working on it because the "Labor and parts would be more expensive than a new a/c unit." I don't have your skills but you make it look so simple and I hate to get rid of this a/c when it could be fixed. Btw, we already pulled it out of the wall and cleaned the coils front and back and hosed it out. The temp. sensor is in place.

    I have an Amcor PCMB10000EH Portable Air conditioner. I turn it on turn temp to lowest setting and compressor won't kick on since nothing is coming out of back exhaust. It also has a heater on the ac. i crank that to 90 degrees. compressor still doesn't kick on. it only blows room temp air on cold and on heat temps. it' not using the compressor just the reg fan is all that is engaging. My question is does this machine have a relay switch and where will it be located. and does it have a fuse and where is it located? I'm having issues. Please help me so my machine compressor can start working. Would low coolant, cause a compressor to not kick on? I have tools. I just need help please. I can't find tech support anywhere. i will pay for a fix. i have all tools. i need help please.

    Just for your info. This looks to be a Samsung unit. When you first turn this unit on, there is a 5 to 8 minute delay before the relay closes to start the compressor. I found my first one of these and tnought control board was bad, but after i turned it on, and set temp low as it would go, i let it sit and run and compressor started after about 8 minutes.

      That could be a bad capacitor or the compressor could be locked up. Remove the capacitor and go to any HVAC supply store and get it tested if bad replace it and hopefully that will get it going. plus discharge the capacitor with a screw driver.
