Goalie Day! What should Flyers expect from Sam Ersson, Ivan Fedotov, & netminders in the pipeline?

  • Let’s talk goaltenders! We’ve talked a lot about the high-end talent the Philadelphia Flyers need to acquire and develop in order to one day compete for a Stanley Cup, and that conversation mostly revolves around top-line forwards, and top-pair defensemen. But goalies are pretty damn important.
    Sam Ersson showed signs of viability as a starter last season, but the heavy workload when he became the only NHL-caliber netminder on the roster torpedoed his numbers. Ivan Fedotov is finally here, but he’s a huge question mark as a 28-year-old rookie. Alexei Kolosov is allegedly coming over. Last year’s draft picks have a ton of potential but need time.
    Charlie & Bill take a look at the goalie situation on this Thursday edition of PHLY Flyers.

    Ersson was better than Hart last year, even before everything went down. He’s a huge reason the Flyers almost made the playoffs

      In no world was ersson better than hart. Look at the stats. Ersson had a well below 900 save %

      @@bdawk511Harts numbers took a dip his last 2 starts he got shelled, he had a .913 as the starter for a good chunk of the season until right before the charges came out errson was good, but until the days leading up to the charges Hart was much better

      Errson was so much better than Hart when Hart was still there.. It’s not just the stats it’s the timing of the goals and the situation. Hart constantly gave up BAD goals at terrible times. Errson kept them in games and made timely saves. Errson save% was basically the same as Hart and that was after the first 3 games he had like a .7 smtin save% and gave up 14 goals on less than 60 shots …. I am not saying Errson had a good season as a whole or anything but when he wasn’t playing every night I thought he was veryy good

      @@danohea1896 the recency bias is wild, hart was top goalie in a lot of the categories likes sv percent, gsax, and gaa. The only time Hart was bad was the few games leading up to when they charged him, he got shaky because he likely heard they were doing it. From like November until early January the flyers were getting top tier goaltending as a whole from both goalies. Errson was good, but hart was much more consistent and he was a huge reason they were in the spot they were down the stretch run

    I dont see a scenario where Buffalo chooses Laughton over a young and cheaper Mcleod
    Ersson was overplayed. He was a rookie goalie who was thrusted into a starter role. Going into next season he will likely be better prepared to handle a higher workload. Probably not the same workload but you will see an improvement in his play over a large workload. Asking someone whos never played a season in the NHL (More than 25 games) it is a lot for a goalie to play 51 games and whatever ridiculous stretch it was after Hart "Left"

    • @bdawk511
      @bdawk511 Před 20 dny +2

      Agreed, Ersson played very well for a large stretch of the season but ultimately broke down towards the end. You also have to keep in mind that Sean Walker, who was one of their best defensemen, was dealt, Risto got hurt, Seeler got hurt, so our second half defensive core was really hampered. The team as a whole seemed to break down, down the stretch.
      Add a full off season prepping to be "the guy" also Fedotov has a full off season to prepare and get accustomed to North American hockey and we could very well have a good 1-2 in net..... Or it could be a total disaster who knows? Haha
