Great work you two! Teamwork at its finest! And no, we didn't mind the filming - we enjoyed it!
The time lapse was perfect. It was Malin's narrating making it so enjoyable.
And there it is! You two make this job look so easy, even though it is very exhausting and uncomfortable. The finish looks very professional! The way in which you filmed this process is perfectly fine! After all, you are documenting YOUR boat build; not giving free lessons! Laminating the rest is going to be equally interesting! You are one big step closer to the day I am most looking forward to; the turning of the hull!! Just can not wait to get a peek at the interior of this beauty!
Absloutly great job in laminating and filming, Iam always waiting for the next episode
That was a massive amount of work accomplished by just two people for your first batch. The time lapse is great to see and with the voice over helps us to understand what you are doing.
Thanks for the update. Of course the fisheye lens exaggerates the curvatures, but falling down and getting hurt will really mess up your schedule. Perhaps a steel tube under the roof and a clip on harness?
Excellent suggestion!
...or ropesteel cable acress the barn ceiling... sort off inverted lifeline
Agree with suggestions re: grab rail or harness.
Thank you for posting and sharing. Very well done videography.
A little crawl for 2 humans, a giant step for RAN III :)
You two are doing great. Before you know it you will look back at this build and pinch yourselves.
It's an incredible task you are undertaking, and you are both stepping up to the mark. Well done, and thanks for posting such interesting clips.
Wonderful to see another milestone passed! And wonderful to see Johan give his wife a kiss! I've been home sick for three weeks binge-watching all the old episodes, and I can still count on the fingers of one hand how many times it's happened. If I had a wife who shared my dream as hard as Malin does and also works so hard for the goal, my videos would be mostly kisses! ❤❤😊
Vikings are no Italians lol
I had to laugh when you said there's a lot of thinking going on with the laminating as if there hasn't been a lot of thinking going on the whole time!
Hi guy's, the time lapse was OK. It showed us the hard work you put into the project.
Keep up the great work.
I could feel the stress just watching so well done. Whenever you are fighting the clock its hard to keep a level head but all your planning (as usual) paid off. Cheers Ian
No need to apologize for showing epoxying. We have been waiting all year for this stage. Love watching it and great job.
Very nice job! You will get the hang of it sooner than you think. Laminating is like painting , it is all in preparation and you both seem to have that well in hand! 👍
This is real boat building. You look like professionals. Keep up the good work.
Johan, Marlin & Vera: This is truly a Milestone with respect, laminating cloth fiber over your beautiful cedar hull, and in such a relative short period of time may I add. I realize, that all tree must be exhausted at this point, yet the accomplishment of building your own stripped hull is overwhelming to us all. Thank all three for an amazing job so far. It's a epic undertaking that you seem to take in stride. God Bless from the US!
@ 19:30, I'm still smiling as I type this, I absolutely loved, the very human ingenuity to overcome problems, a company would have held up production for the time it took or a maintenance engineer to move the light switch, But not a couple that have sailed the world, 😄😄😄
Looks great you both are doing great job. That is an huge project. Be safe.
Filming absolutely fine. Very absorbing. (ha!)
Great layups are all about good prep work. Being experienced helps, but y’all just proved it’s not a prerequisite if you’re intelligent, steadfast, and good at communicating.
I’m seriously impressed and I’ve got a degree in composite construction.
You’re going to rest easy at night in the middle of huge swells knowing that you did everything right. Bravo!
you are always doing a Great Job cannot WAIT to see her finished 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Time lapse is fine. it highlights how you need to move down the piece and work each area carefully. I enjoy following your progress.
Video was great. Don't worry about it. It was fun to participate albeit remotely. Well done!😀
Your barn looks so clinical, I could imagine surgery taking place in there! Just amazed at how systematically you prepare your ever changing work environment. Just amazing!!!!
Happy to have the time lapse. It was interesting listening to your comments and explanations. Great work guys.
Thank you RAN for 370...
Good to see ! I have heard lots about vacuum bagging but never seen it demonstrated so well. Well filmed, and well explained. Also you are so lucky to have Malin, a wife who gets into boatwork like that is worth millions.
Been watching since 2019, great to see this moment finally. Congrats
Well done guys! Not gonna lie that looked very tiring and stressful ,but you work very well together!
Good work and I need to get myself a Volvo Sweatshirt, to use it when I drive my Volvo S60!
😂
Don't worry about the time lapse. We got to see the start to finish of this section, so it was way more that just a segment... Really good video. And, very nice finish...
Amazing work you two, not only demonstrating the teamwork required but also the strength of that loving moment shows that even after a stressful day that all will be good ❤️⛵️
Johan, I do hope you still have your funny little laugh when this boat is finished!
Thank you for making these videos. ❤😮😊
loving every second of this boat build. As a boat builder myself, but retired, i find it awesome to watch all your videos.
Congratulations on entering your crab-walking lamination-party phase, J & M! It was exciting to watch the time lapse, and interesting to see and learn about vacuum-lamination. And, although I've been watching (and loving) your channel for a while now, I'd appreciate a clarification of how the keel recess works (how will the keel attach???) and why laminating the keel recess in this way is part of the boat build ... why the yellow & black tape (which the epoxy wont stick to), what happens after the tape is removed, etc. etc.. Earlier, watching allllllllll those cedar strips be carefully assembled and attached to create your beautiful hull made sense, but the role of "the keel pocket" is a bit less obvious, so I'm having a hard time visualizing it and really want to understand (your great explanations are part of what makes watching glue dry so interesting! And especially that both of you are such wonderful people. :) Thx, Lee
Technology has really changed laminating
There’s nothing like experience to teach you. And I remember my first lamination. It feels like a do or die mission. If I mess it up…disaster! In a few weeks you’ll be ho hum about it.
it wasn't boring to watch. I have built a kayak with the same technique and am therefore so impressed by this great project, not to compare. hälsningen från Skåne.
Excellent video.
Thank you very much for letting us all join you.
Ran III looks so long. She’s beautiful.
Extremely good light switch extension :D
The time lapse was great. Thanks for doing it.
At last Friday again and an update on RAN III. I'm so impressed with your never ending enthusiasm. You'll get there eventually, with a yacht to be dead chuffed about. However, I do miss the "Inspector" and her thoughts of the progress.😉 Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪.
Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
Now you have an idea of how hard laminators work all day. Most people have no idea how hard tradesmen work! Groundworkers, bricklayers, plasterers and so on. Well done.
used peel ply for the 1st time yesterday, didn't vacuum but squeegeed it out taught. peeled off this morning and I'm really happy with the results. All the best from New Zealand!
Totally OK with the time-lapse. Excellent episode!
Another fabulous journey for your viewers well done.
Can't imagine how many aches you have from All the bottom work!! You guys have done an Amazing job!! We Love watching your videos, Thank You!!❤
I hate that there’s so much waist with laminates. I understand that it’s a necessary evil, but you would think that engineers could have come up with a reusable solution by now. Looks great! Keep up the good work.
We hate that too, at least we can reuse some of the vacuum bag for smaller projects. Cheers!
Seadog says hello!!!
You two are amazing! Great job!
There is great comfort in seeing your meticulous planning and hard work take shape. What an amazing project. Thank you for sharing this journey with us 💜
Lot of work on your knees! I worry about the possibility of one of you slipping off he hull!⛵️⛵️⛵️
Great Job for the first time
Please find a way to add two safety lines running along the length of the hull to help prevent falling off accident? We care very much about your safety you both working on top of the hull.
Infusion much less stressful! Good job!
Awesome! All the prep and planning paid off! 🎉
Another major milestone!
Did you know, that you can clean your tooly by simply washing them in haouse hold vinegar. The acidity in the vinegar knocks down the molecules of epoxy and the brushes, rolers, fingers ;-) can be cleaned safely and without any expensive and dangerous solvents
Works great, when I have to do epoxy works
Terrific to watch Your progress. Just a quick remark from an old fiber guy - I understand it is tempting to remove the peal ply after every step to see the result. But this is also a source for issues, especially, when you have additional work nearby like sanding, painting or cleaning. It is good practice, to keep the peal ply on the laminate until you are ready to mix epoxy and apply the next layer, that way protecting the cured laminate from any contamination like spills or dust.
Tack!
Wow! 😀 Tack så mycket! 👍😊
The small propeller that spins if you have a leak is called a tattletale
Very profesional, well done/repeat !00's of timesnext 2 years
Bravo! Well done!
Backing a 5th wheel R/V into a tight campsite at night can test a marriage to the limit. But this effort takes stress to another dimension! Love Rules❤❤❤.
Job well done! And don’t worry about filming. I think you documented the work very well. I have witnessed the whole process….
Good luck with the upcoming work!
I've followed you two from the Panama Canal to Alaska, down the coast to Mexico and all the way my blood pressure dropped with each video. This episode was the more of the same. thanks!
Thanks for the Timelapse, I’m sure it saved you a lot of time editing out all the cussing. Lol😂😂😂
pkane is right we don't mind the filming, we really do enjoy your work. Great Job guys, Great Job!
The other thing I've learned from seeing people work with epoxy and fiberglass along with doing it myself is that you should put on several pairs of gloves so that once the outer pair is messed up or develops a tear you can easily pull off the first pair and have another pair or two below that layer
I would love to try resin injection, you would place all the cloth dry in place, vacuum bag the area, then draw the resin in from the center out using vacuum pressure.
when you are inspecting the recently cured epoxy lams you can knock on the laminate surface to hear how hard the built up laminates are. The work looks great btw. I usually leave the room as cold as possible until the layup is all done then crank the heat :--)
looks great, I like how you explain everything along the way.
Amazing work from you two I hope you have every success thanks.
Maybe put a wetting table in the cold big loft and roll your wetted glass-mat onto some tube and unroll it onto the hull. When you have helpers. Duracell Project just pours epoxy on to the cloth and uses scrapers to wet it out when doing big areas.
Loved the time lapse!
wonderful job filming, music is very relaxing
Very cool project. Interesting process to accomplish an amazing result!!!
You guys are already laminating like pros! Great job :)
Wow! Both of you are now chemists.
Oh glorious laminating! You are both hard working people and deserve what ever rewards you gain from this in the future.
Back when I was doing aircraft composites I think it was recommended to not remove peel ply until just before (same day) doing the follow on laminate as that improved the quality of the bond. My recollection is the surface of the previous layup would absorb some amount of moisture from the air and that interferes with the bond strength of the subsequent layer. Also, where sanding is required to get a new layer to adhere the paper grit should be 36 or 40.
Looks like a fantastic start to the laminating
I know the stress of large pot epoxy jobs, good work.
Congratulations on job very well done. I hope the rest of the laminations go as well.
I don't understand the whole keel recess but I couldn't wait for this week's episode. It's facinating watching and learning.
Lamination! A significant milestone. Well done.
Great job so far.

My knees hurt 😅
What exhausting work! I'm so glad that you will be able to get additional help in the weeks ahead. 👍😉
That was great work! I am highly impressed and am happy with how you always film.
You are fantastic. 👏👏👏♥️♥️♥️
My admiration to you both! The meticulous way you go about it. I enjoyed it. Thanks.
Great episode - flew by
Wow, big task. Well done!
You did a fantastic job on the boat and the video ! As always. Can’t wait for you to turn the boat over . Please keep us up to date on all your work ! 👍🏻👍🏻
The whole thing is extraordinarily !
Nice work on the 4 lamination layers. It’s clear that the preparation and planning paid off in the end. The Timelapse was a great way to watch the process move forward. Every once in a while it’s good to see how long something actually takes just to get a feel of how long a job really takes to complete. I don’t know if your doing this, or not, but it would be an interesting statistic at the end of the build if you had some information on how much of the materials you used to build the boat, like square meters of fiberglass, seal-ply, vacuum bag material and sealing tape etc. On a boat that size I’m sure it will be a very high number, and who knows, it might help others out who are planning to build their own boats in the future.
Nice work 👍🏻
