The gunner's sight isn't really a weak point on the Leopard 2A5 and onwards as it is mounted outside the main armour. If a shell were to hit there, it would only destroy the sight, it wouldn't incapacitate the tank. The gunner has a backup sight in case their main sight is disabled.
