During the worst of the pandemic I ordered all I needed to make make this from Amazon and watched videos. I now make my own all the time. Took some practice but it was fun. Looking forward to my first trip to Japan in September/October. 🇨🇦

I also used to throw beans at home on Setsubun when I was a kid, and 'toshi-otoko' or 'toshi-onna' (men or women who were born in the year of the same zodiac sign with that of the current year) usually play a role of 'oni' (devil). I ate 56 beans this year, btw. 😋👹

The custom of Eho-maki (The long sushi roll they made in video) has spread rapidly in Japan since 2003, when supermarkets and convenience stores began heavily advertising the event. It came from Kansai area.

Your family is bridge of US and Japan. Thank you nice warmful video.

In the old days, children used to go around to their neighbors' houses to receive sweets during Setsubun. Eating "ehomaki" was an event in the Kansai region, but now it has become a nationwide event thanks to the strategies of convenience stores.

Setsubun norimaki is a tradition in the Kansai region of Japan. it looks delicious!😊❤

    Amen, we praise only Jesus!

  • @btw6499

It is very nice that you said "Thank you, Jesus" and ate Ehomaki(thick sushi roll) according to Japanese custom. A nice fusion of the western Christianity and the Japanese custom has just been created!

  • @harukikurogane9539

Birds will be happy if you wrap the beans outside.😅

  • @RagnarokArrives

It was fun seeing the whole family involved in the video, plus the japanese girls seemed to enjoy sharing this tradition. Yes only Jesus can dispel demons and not just a bunch of beans.

So cool to learn about different festivals and celebrations around the world! Japan has such a rich culture! I’m Canadian. Canada is so multi cultural, it’s amazing

A wonderful demonstration of Setsubum! Everyone seemed to have had great fun. Thanks to the two friends who kindly showed us how to do it 😊 Your openness and interest in learning things from Japanese culture is awesome.
