Love the "Boat Shed Two-Stepp'n" #boatshedboogy
Fantastic tip on the drawer slide. Thanks.
A grandchild! Even the bells of Victoria were celebrating the news along with you! 🎉😊
Your are like a Ballet Dancer around WOOD, extremely disciplined and exquisite in execution. Your new lady is not bad either😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
You’re doing Such great job with the drawer! I LOOOVE to hear the word grandchild in your life. A blessing for sure
Leo get's all the nice stuff at Edensaw.
How serendipitous that the bells rang as you mentioned a grandchild, thought we didn't notice... but we did.
Grandchild
@@vivazahn *grandchild.
Terms denoting family relationships are only capitalized when used as proper nouns (eg "Come here Grandchild")) When used as common nouns they're never capitalized
Leo over on Tally Ho owns all the mahogany. All of it. LOL
Ha ha love the new intro, had me fooled for a second, thought I had the wrong channel😊
Happy Grandchild Pete. I have to comment on your very unconventional cabinet making methods. A little but odd but seems to work for you. Interesting to watch.
I love it, love it, love it!
You can tell she was nervous but she did really well and it put a smile on my face. So happy for yall
yep! An official welcome by Andrea! love it! as much as the mahogany sapele!
The light colored sap wood with cut offs would make great checker chess boards. Along with othello game pieces .
Great video Peter and Andrea ..Always a pleasure to tune in and hear the latest updates including a grand child !! The hardwood quality is quite a challenge. From reading the chat thread there are lots of reasons for the quality shortage but maybe the big hitters are getting the best stuff. I remember John Boddy’s in North Yorkshire,England use tobe the uk importers for the uk and there slogan was always allow 40% waste when estimating a job specifically hardwood. Always a tuff dilemma to think you maybe purchasing 40% expensive firewood with every job🙄. The Baltic birch plywood use to be 10feet x 5 feet in uk. But not bought any for some time.
Peter, I believe I have said this before, but I think it bares repeating . Your background music is extraordinary ! Nuff said !
It’s amazing what you accomplish in a boathouse Peter. Good on you!
Wow what a great change for the opening it’s a winner 🏆
I am SO happy for you Peter! I am the proud grandpa of our oldest son’s 14 month grandchild, a boy named Leo. Our first from our 4 kids, and I get to be his pediatrician too!
You will love it and you get to teach another generation.
Outstanding intro Miss Andrea!
Peter, as a grandfather myself, and the father of girls I must say I can’t figure out what to do with grandsons…
Concradulatins on the new grandchild to be, I hope it’s a girl!
Well done great job . More importantly having a lovely person to share your life with is an amazing bonus. Stay happy and enjoy life.
Pete Sawdust is man glitter.... congratulations on the grandchild they will have great adventures with you
I was wondering where that huge box was intended to go, since it looked way too big to fit through any of the hatches. So many nicely finished projects include hidden 'Oh Poop!' fixes...
Congratulations to the grandchild - and to the intro by the girlfriend!
Andrea, you will become more fluent in TWG-Speek, I promise!
Congrats can't wait for the low down :))
It is funny that you can get Baltic Birch plywood. Here in the states we can’t. It comes from Russia and Baltic Birch is on the list of can’t buy things.
You have an interesting way of making carcasses. Never have seen that technique.
You can use the cut off somewhere else.
Nice opening Andrea nailed it. 😊 You think a Boat sucks money Grandkids do the same 😂😅. Congrats anyhoo.😅😂. Nice job on the Draws epic checking how much room ya needed to get them in 😊. Keep at it now.😊😊
Peter there once was a story about birds and bees, you obviously haven’t heard about it. So no we get to call you grandpa! Congratulations on your next new first mate.
The tintinnabulation during the precise moment you announced your new Grandfather status was serendipity at it's finest! Unless, of course, you scripted that segment down to the microsecond? Well crafted work as always; very glad you thought to check the doorway size! Cheers, and congratulations, from Whitehorse.
Thanks for the new word.
As a hobby I make cornhole boards in Australia. Yes they really don't sell well as not many play it here. However, currently only the Russian pirch ply is suitable and available.
congratulations on the new grandchild.
grand child is the blessing you get from having kids
Congrats Grandad! All excellent as usual my southern neighbour!
Thanks for the video and congratulation to you and yours.
Nice timing with the bells and the word grandchild. All good signs. Congrats!!!
Great news! I am going to be a grand dad as well in May. Congratulations to us both. 🤩👍
Teak is a thing of the past due to embargos here in the US. We can still get nice sapele but it comes at a cost. Might be time to start forcing ourselves to change our thinking in wood species. Here south of Boston we have some choices fortunately and I'm finding it tends to be cyclical in that I see super nice batches come through, then lesser quality batches come through. That sapwood is something we NEVER have to contend with, nor would we as it isn't usable.
Oh! Wow, prettier intro!!😂😂
From a forever (from the beginning) watcher/listener !
So happy for you both!
Smooth sailing to you. (If that can apply) You know what I mean....
Cheers from the eastern townships of Québec 🍻
Well done Andrea, nice surprise!
In my experience the most talented craftsman wear sweaters and collared shirts, thanks for sharing the content, I always look forward to your videos.
Congratulations Peter and daughter!
Congrats, vagabond1209! A two-tee-shirt-winner! We will send you a free shirt from The Boat Geeks.
Peter something to consider. If you push a thumbtack into the front top edge of your drawer guide, and another thumbtack into the top rear corner of your drawer box. After you wax the guides your drawer will slide as if it were on ball bearings.
Very nice work Peter!
Whoo hoo! new intro! good job.
That was a new intro 😊
I have the most amazing grand child at 5 he is sensitive and kind and says he loves his granddad me. He is called Joseph and I am so excited he is coming on holiday in July to my home here in France can't wait happy days. The bonus my son in law loves beer so whilst he is here we will try some, like you special beers from Belgium and France.
I also love that when you made your announcement the bells where ringing in the back ground cheers
Nice to see you guys so happy;-) When you mentioned the word of the week would be a hint..I more ore less expected *cough* wedding *cough*?. But ok, you skip a couple of steps, so grandchild it is! Keep up the great work!
If you understand hardwood lumber grading rules you may appreciate the quality of lumber that you have access to. Amd if you consider the volume of lumber such a Sepela that are being imported, it is not suprising if quality goes down.
Happy days both 🙂
Well well well so you are to become the proud owner of a grandchild? Massive congratulations 🎉 to you and Andrea. And to the mother and father to be!
I've been using Sapele for six or seven years now, since I could not find Honduran. I have a local yard that gets in 4/4 and thicker and most of it is quarter sawn, 6" to 10" wide, typically 14' long and straight. I bought some about a week ago and paid $4.90 (U.S.) a board foot. I checked with them and they said that the buyer would have to arrange shipment. The company is Goldenwest Plywood Lumber, inc. located in Bellflower, California. I don't know if the shipping costs would make a purchase prohibitive.
Congrats Grandpa (soon to be) !
Lol swag. Congrats on the coming grandchild!
Congratulations, Peter!
I'm sorry about your wood problem it has been on my mind lately and I'm going to do some online research for you 😊 not a problem for me ❤
The poorer quality sapele is unfortunately an endemic part of human over-consumption. You may have to befriend an employee at Edensaw and let him or her know the quality you’re needing and have them contact you when the better grade comes in. Still the cabinetry is top notch, as always..😊
Great start for Andrea with the opening, however, she forgot to mention the loving memory of Geordie. I have a grandchild who proudly wears her “Travels with Geordie T-shirt”. Matter of fact she was wearing it today. Cheers!
You're going to make a great Pop Pop Peter 🥂
Congratulations Peter, will the grandchild have a middle name of Geordie?😊
Peter, have you tried Canadian Bavarian Millwork and Lumber in Chemainus? They tend to have a good stock of mahogany in a variety of sizes. I've had mostly good luck with the quality and the pricing seems on the good side. Also, good old Windsor Plywood here in Nanaimo gets a shipment of sapele shorts every so often. I won't speak to the overall quality, but it's worth a look. They are generally 4 foot lengths or so. I stop by WP every so often just to look at the selection and am often surprised to see some excellent pieces of sapele or mahogany. It's just a matter of timing the visits.
Wow, how exciting.
Nice intro, Andrea!
as I was looking at you built the box I said to myself, self how is peter going to get that thru the door on the boat ? Glad you solve the the issue :)
Hi Peter. I think all the wood is perfect. The ones thatt look all uniform are boring. Just my opinion. Keep up the outstanding work.
I miss port townsend... question, when in Port Townsend, did you visit Leo and the Tallyho boat build?
I bought a tree stump cut in slabs with no centerwood. Verry straight and not a lot of pits. I payd €1300,- m3. If that gives u an idea.
congrats appear to be in order , and what a grand feeling it is to be a Grandpa, ( just ask me :)). I hope the cat that scratched your nose got its just dessert, or maybe it wasn't a cat ? anyway, cheers Frank from Downunder
My dear friend if buying Chipotle mahogany brand new is hard to do how about finding someone that sells reclaimed wood from a boat yard possibly a little bit used but a mini planner could benefit you in making used wood perfect for your use enjoy your day Sir
hello to the Anchor hotel
doug young
Grand the easiest child, huzzah!
Worried the quality of wood is declining. Yellow cedar is my need soon over Sappele.
I don't have a grandchild, but my girlfriend has two and she shares. Can't wait to see how you finish the drawers. Will you have a rail on the middle of the side of the drawer to keep the drawer from dipping down when you pull it out? Can't wait to see.
The lumber suppliers will give you poorer and poorer quality if you don’t reject it. I would have rejected it at the pick-up despite the drive overhead.
Yeah. If you are not happy with it tell them. I was a wood worker for a very long time. It sucks telling them but you have to. Their standards are not always the same as yours. You have to stand your ground sometimes. As far as wood quality. Yes standards are lowering. Wood doesn't grow on trees you know! Uh wait a minute!
Why did you buy that wood? Didn't they let you pick your wood? I bought a fair amount of Sapele back when I was rebuilding Tortuga I always picked through the wood they had in stock at the supplier I get it from to make sure it met my quality requirements. I guess I am old school, but I don't buy wood that I haven't personally selected. Maybe things have changed in lumber yards these days.
Peter, just this past Friday I purchased some 11' lengths of 4/4, and some 6' lengths of 6/4 Sapele from my local supplier (Woodworkers Source, locations in Phoenix and Tucson). Mine looks pretty good - all are equivalent to the "best" piece you had. Not sure if it's a Pacific Northwest thing in terms of wholesalers, but I've never seen boards with sapwood like that offered for sale. I've seen some of what you're legitimately complaining about, but very rare, in 8/4 planks. To other commenters points, I also was able to pick through everything. Several had more squirrelly grain, and only about half of the 4/4 had the perfect straight ribbons, but even with the odd grain it would have been fine for finished use (I would hesitate to steam bend or scarf on those wavy grains, but otherwise fine). Best of luck, and congratulations!
Cheers!
Ton of fun.
Here in The Netherlands there are amazing wood suppliers, also with great mahogany. It has a price tag though. My guess is that mega yachts sales are booming, woodworking as a hobby took off during covid and the mid century furniture trend has not come to an end yet. Wood is in demand, trees do not grow faster. Always the same.
I want to choose wich boards I get, that is possible here. At first it hurts the wallet, but you can use all of it. That helps me through the night😂.
I love it I love it🎉
Luvit luvit😅
I am concerned that you may not get the cabinate thru thru the doorway. Stay safe and we'll see you next week.
With the figuring it is time to build a guitar Peter.
Nice intro!
The more picky you are, the better the timber will be.
Hmm. Dunno those sizes but here in Nordic (Finland) domestic birch-plys are to my knowledle all in 1220x2440 mm. and how much there is business with Russia now?
My-my-my. Old grandpa now? It is sure your grandchild will have a bedroom full of hand made furniture and toys made my yourself. Get a shipload of Sapele loaded!
Peter couldn't you just have re attached those 3" of the carcass once inside?
I have a grandchild who I am celebrating my 75th birthday with.
Grandad? Congratulations!
Why did the “Magic Carpet” folks think they could not bring lumber into Canada unless it had built into the boat whereas you seemed to have no problem?
More practice Andrea?😂😊😅
More practice Andrea, thxs for sharing...
Women hold the world together.
New Grandchild?
Grandpa ? 🎉
That sapele is nothing like the wood I purchased locally at Westwind Hardwood a few years back for my Chris Craft. Not worth your travel, really.
Quality saw cuts of premium lumber seem to be falling by the wayside for pure $.
Great video on building the cabinet, been watching for years and just love your outstanding carpenter work.
I do not want to write this here but you have left me no other choice. I have been e-mailing you for 3 months trying to claim the T-Shirt I won on episode #400 with no response from you and no t-shirt, so what gives here?
I'd be pissed too, If I decided to drive to another Country thinking the drive would help me obtain a descent batch of wood. Isn't that the point of it, all, in the first place. Yeah I'd be upset too, you are well justified to be upset over it all. Don't blame you one bit. like I said I'd be pissed too.
Grandad 🤗Enjoying your renewed interest in Geordie 🛥️
