    For new fish suggestions, if you can get them in Australia, consider tile fish. Recently got a pair of red skunk tiles from an LFS as kind of an impulse purchase, and they have proven gorgeous additions to my tank. Long, narrow bodies, so a different form than what you have already. Super peaceful, though are a bit skittish if there's drama among other fish in the tank. They do best in pairs. Not sure about sexing them or if it does not matter. The Oreni tile fish are true beauties, but what's really cool are the Flashers, as they can actually change colour! Look up some video, they're nuts!
    By the same token, a midas blenny is also a cool choice. Striking yellow and and eel-like swim pattern make them unique. They also look quite cute as the perch on various rocks and back themselves into holes in the rock.

      @@ParkersReef I started my new dream aquarium 1 week before yours, 3 years ago. I’m not very good at it, and had the worst luck. Got some kind of worm that stuck to the glass and grew to about 80-90mm. There were millions of them. I was about to give up, but for some reason about 6 months ago they all died. The skeletons of these worms were all hard calcium. These worms dont move they are immobile skeletal organisms more like coral than other nematodes.
      Anyway - I have no corals now.
      Setting up a second tank and will tey again running both in a row.
      Could have and should have given up, but spent so much that I didnt have the heart to.
      You are a bloody inspiration mate.
      If I could choose 1 house aquarium on CZcams it would be yours.
      Obviously there are bigger and fancier tanks on CZcams. There are after all millionaires and billionaires in the world.
      But yours for practical purposes is still the best of any practical house produced aquarium.
      And hats off to you for keeping the blue green chromis successfully. No one I have talked to has succeeded as they tend to pick each other off after 1-2 years. It is a mystery why they are described as easy fish.

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @Whaleydavey too kind mate, thank you. Sounds like you’ve had quite the challenge with your tank, hopefully onwards and upwards from here!
      My Chromis have never been an issue the way everyone else has issues with them. They are certainly aggressive to each other though, I think potentially by having enough of them that it spreads the aggression out a bit?

      @Whaleydavey Před 8 měsíci +1

    Sam, your tank is an inspiration. As far as your return pump (Abyzz), can you please tell me which one you have, how many feet of head it's overcoming (the plumbing). I am doing new plumbing and looking into a new return pump. I need it to go from the sump, through a UV sterilizer and chiller in the garage and back - plumbing going up from sump into the ceiling attic and back. I figure that is about (9' + 9') 18-20 feet of head. I would like to know your set-up and if you have any suggestions. As always, great video. Please keep them up. Thank you, Sam

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  Před 8 měsíci

      Many thanks! I have two of the A200 pumps in there, one at 50% for return only and the other at about 40% for accessories only (chiller, uv, GFO). I have them plumbed so that I can isolate and run off just one if I need to, but due to the amazing reliability of these pumps I have not needed to yet. As for head pressure, I would estimate it would be about 8-10feet based off the height and the plumbing choices, you can see more detail on the plumbing here:
      czcams.com/video/4KrAA8UumDA/video.html
      Whilst it sounds like your needs for the pump would be greater than mine (perhaps look at specs of A400?) I cannot recommend the Abyzz enough. It has been outstanding

      I keep my phosphate around 0.08ppm, but to be honest - it gets as low as 0.04ppm after changing my GFO and as high as 0.22ppm before I change it again.

    Hey Sam, Tank is looking great that growth is just insane! but how good do the large colonies look when they grow out into your tank! As for your PH I've been listening to reef therapy from the start all over again and Jake mentioned that he drips his calcium reactor effluent into a small bottle with the top cut off and put a quite operating air pump stone in the bottle to boost up the PH of the effluent before dripping into the tank. The liquid then pours over the bottle rim (that you obviously place in your sump some were) at a higher PH from the gas off chamber created from the air stone bubbling in the bottle. I cant remember how much of a difference it made but I think he said maybe around .3 of a difference. that might be just enough if it works

      Just run the effluent water from the calcium reactor to the protein skimmer to degas it..The kalkwasser will precipitate phosphates out of the water ,So less free ionic calcium is available for the organisms...So,If you are using only the clear precipitate from the reactor, Don't dose it in your sump,Dose it in the main tank in a high flow area,You won't need to run as much water through the reactor.....

      I have fond memories of the radium halides, but to be fair - I think the coral cares have them matched. The 400w radiums I ran on magnetic ballasts (so 440w) produced beautiful growth, but couldn't match the colours that the coral cares are giving. I used to have to "colour up" wild SPS over a couple months, with the coral cares they never brown out, just get better from day one
