  • Medusa Steel Coaster is first and only Rocky Mountain Construction roller coaster in Latin America. Located at Six Flags Mexico, this is a hybrid conversion of the park's former CCI wood coaster named Medusa. This has one of the more unique RMC layouts, throwing in some wild turns and inversions along with all the ejector airtime.

    This RMC seems to deliver everything I loved in Umtamed (Laterals in overbanks and snappy banking changes/transition)
    Insanely cool looking coaster.

    I rode this in December 2022 and was able to ride it at its peak with the normal 6 car trains. You might be surprised to hear that I had a good amount of room with the restraint on most of my rides. In fact, on my first ride I had so much room that the jolt at the bottom of the first drop that you mentioned actually stapled me lol. Medusa in general sorta had the feel of a topper track RMC. I have it ranked 20th out of 24 RMCs but it is a great ride.

      It does sort of feel like a topper track woodie in the very back row.

    The employee sliding a hand between your leg and restraint to verify if you’re snugged is hilarious. That’s a call for enthusiasts to hit Leg day at the gym 🤣

    Ive ridden a few rmc coasters and the trick with being tall(6'4") is making sure your legs are as far forwards as possible then adjusting them back as you bring the bar down it makes it much more comfortable on your shins and thighs, medusa looks really good i like the track layout

    Interesting about the steel wheels, that would explain the great pacing despite height reduction. Any other iBox coasters use steel? I heard about using them during Storm Chaser testing. For steel on Topper track there's Outlaw Run and the partial retracks.

      @CanobieCoaster  Před 6 měsíci

      Storm Chaser is another one that played with the wheels a few times.

  • @keithstransitexperiences9749

    Though I'm skinny, I remember stapling myself on RMC hybrid coasters so I might be good because the lowest position happens to touch my thigh.

    The Franken-train thing is interesting. Is there any benefit to the park doing this over just using one full train?

      Maybe they only refurb specific cars as needed?

  • @micoasters
    @micoasters Před 6 měsíci

    For me, the no choice seating seems better than how the other rmc rides operate. The ends of the train are too much for me and the strength of the airtime in the back completely ruined steel vengeance. But a middle ride was much more tolerable, so it think that would be great (my luck is I still get assigned the back row)

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Před 6 měsíci

      But on the other hand, you could get assigned the ends and have no say to change.

    I didn't realise any coasters used steel wheels, is that common on RMCs? Wouldn't the track wear out a lot faster?

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Part of the reason is it tends to be a bit rougher, but it lets this one hold its speed better despite the lower height.

    See the shin guards on Medusa Steel Coaster at Six Flags Mexico. And see in RCDB: Coast Rider at Knott's Berry Farm. Try the two again, see the shin guards on both, do you think the shin guards on both coasters look similar or are there differences?

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Před 6 měsíci

      Coast Rider's are way more uncomfortable since they directly dig into your shins.

    When you talked about the CCI wooden coaster named Medusa, what did that mean, pacing issues?

    • @junvarc
      @junvarc Před 6 měsíci

      I rode it many times. It crawled through some sections of the ride. The second hill actually had an anti roll-back thing at the top. But the worst thing was it’s roughness, that thing was shaky as hell. Guaranteed headache after every ride, no matter where you were sitting.

    I am shocked that they don't let you ride if there is a gap between the restraints and legs. Im 5'10 120 lbs, and when I rode Steel Vengeance, I had a cm or so of room between me and the restraint, even though it was on the lowest position.

    The policies on this coaster sound like they could cause it to be an overall worse ride and also make it a lot harder to get the row you want then it should be especially as someone who usually travels alone.

      It's a function of speed, engagement, and element quality.
